It happens randomly after some time, sites will get corrupted text showing up as...
Basically all characters turn to square boxes. Doesn't happen on Safari, seems to be Mac only too.
Since upgrading to Mavericks, some fonts are displaying as rows of A's in boxes, both in mail (in the body copy and any attachments) and on web pages I visit. How do I overcome this?

When I was on a website the other day I was attempting to input some information and the screen would not display what I was typing or what would appear in the drop down boxes. And I have had this problem on several websites, but when I use a different computer it works just fine! I can't think of anything to do! I don't know what you may need to know about my computer but here is some information:

I recently tried to download a free trial of World of Warcraft for Macs but instead screwed up the display settings on my Macbook (version 10.6.4 OS X). I removed it from the computer when the game didn't play, it just gave a black screen, at which point I had restarted the computer to find text sizes magnified, the display setting changed so the whole screen wasn't being used, etc. I was able to change the screen display size no problem but cannot figure out how to make the icons and text in boxes such as applications in the dock, or system preferences folder smaller. Is there a way, without reinstalling the operating system, to reset these minor settings? I could live with the changes but would rather not.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working in Numbers and creating text boxes. In the past there were always little square "handles" which I could use to control the shape of the box. These no longer exist. Their are just little squares in the center of the two vertical sides of the box so that I can only control the size horizontally, but not vertically.How do I now change the size of the box vertically? Why is it that simple chores always become so difficult with Apple?

I am migrating my mail and archive folders from Mail to iCloud. I moved 20+ folders and over 8k messages with no problem by dragging and dropping the folder from 'On my mac' section to 'iCloud' section in Mail. The last two folders were the largest with over 1.5k in each folder. Over 1200 of the messages in each went in to iCloud without a hitch. Then I got this error:
The IMAP command “APPEND” (to [mail box name]) failed with server error: Message contains NUL characters.
There are 149 messages left in one folder and 203 in another folder. Try as I might, it will not work. I tried Rebuild mailbox option in menu and exported to Mail and mbox format and then re-importing. Still does not work.
If I move from leopard to snow leopard, do I have to re-install all software again? What happens with the files in the hard drive?

I have been trying to do this by moving this folder by folder by folder and I have not been having luck with this. It appears to go very slow and oftentimes it simply does not work so this mail is stuck in a local folder somewhere and i have no ability to put it in with my other mail (stored on GMail) and I cannot sort it the way I would like to.

I know there are some other threads on this, but none seem to have a definitive answer. So this issue happened on my previous MacBook Pro with Leopard and then again with Snow Leopard. Now, it's happening again on my brand new 27" iMac. Every time I restart and bring up the dashboard, my weather widget loads and then jumps down a quarter of an inch or so on the screen. How can I stop this from happening and why hasn't Apple fixed this after 2 years?

I'm on 10.6.8, I've just moved my mobileme email to iCloud and I've always been using the @mac.com address. After my move, and updating my desktop mailbox to IMAP, I don't receive any mails sent to @mac.com, only those sent to @me.com. (And any mails sent to aliases are not receieved either.) The mails are not received online on the web app either.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to fill out a downloaded application which is in pdf format. I can type text onto the form in Preview, however, the text types as though it's right justified. That is: when I type the text, the text appears to the left of the cursor. To clarify, the cursor stays in the same place and the text moves to the left, for example, when I place the cursor to the right of "Name", the text I type in appears to the left of the cursor on top of the word "Name". For fields such as Name and Date, I suppose I can just put the cursor far to the right and type my text, but this is an application that includes an essay portion. Typing a paragraph with all of the text going to the left of the cursor isn't going to work very well. Is there a way to change the way the text is added, so that it's added in a more normal way, like the way I'm typing this question, where the letters appear where the cursor is and the cursor moves to the right as you add more text?
I have also tried doing this in Text Edit and Pages (I converted the pdf in Text Edit to rtf), but I wasn't able to fill out the document as needed. In addition, importing the document to Pages and Text Edit, for some reason, only imported the first page of the document). I am using OS 10.6.8

I am having a problem with my Canon Pixma 5200. For some reason it has stopped recognising text. It will print out the test print ok. I can print pictures but no text. I have used different applications, Pages, Word and pdf and although it sounds as though it is printing I end up with a blank sheet. I have a letterhead with my email address on it and having typed a long letter only the email address came out (this was in the same font as the letter but a smaller size).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up a folder action to do the following... When a file is added to the "images" folder a new dated subfolder would automatically be created, and the file would be moved to this new dated subfolder.
Here's what I have so far (which I'm sure is way off base)
1) Folder action receives files and folders added to "Images"
2) Filter finder items - Find files where ALL of the following is true: Kind is ANY
3) New Folder - Name is "_" Where: "Images"
4) Add Date or Time to Finder Item Names: Add Date to folder name
5) Move Finder Items: This is the step that I'm stuck on. I don't know how indicate the newly created folder in step 3
Another question I have is how to make automator check to see if there's already a subfolder with the current date and put the file in that subfolder instead of creating a new subfolder with a duplicate name.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook pro and when I connect it to my external ASUS VH226H, 1920x1080 22" moitor all the fonts except the ones that are part of the OS not in external software are really blurry and rubbish. I've used the following apps and it all looks terrible: Coda, Firefox, Safari, Adium, Adobe CS5. I've tried changing the font smoothing options via terminal and it has made no difference.

I have several PDF docs with several annotations in them. When I show the sidebar in Preview it lists page, type, date, and author, but does not display the words in the annotations!With a long of annotations that only identify themselves by "Text", it's laborious to find the note one is looking for. (One has to manually step through each one at a time!)
