OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Download Previous Version Of Java?
Jun 19, 2012
The latest software update for Mac OS X (10.6.8) upgraded the version of java from Apple and broke an application used for work. Are the previous or older versions of java available from Apple for download?Â
For future updates, Is there a way to modify the software update process to install the the new version but leave the old version in place?

The latest update for Java is causing issues on our website, disabling Mac users on OS 10.6 and 10.7 from uploading or downloading images using a java applet. We know it is being cause by these recent updates:Java for OS X 2012-004 or Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 9.Is there any fix for this or a way to revert back to the previous version of Java, without having to re-install Mac OS? We are currenlty at a loss of how to address this issue and we have many users impacted.

I installed the Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8. Since that time I've had problems with WebEx and a file transfer site I use. WebEx gives me a "Sorry, you do not have java download client enabled." everytime I try and start or join a meeting in Safari, Chrome, and FireFox. The file transfer site won't let me log in using either Safari or Chrome. I've been able to log in using FireFox, but I haven't tested if everything is work all right. I went to the Java preferences app and changed the order or 32/64 bit. I also thought perhaps some cached files could have been corrupted so I deleted the cached files. But other than that it doesn't seem like there is anything there that does much.Â

I made a Java applet with Xcode 3.2Â and i load it to firefox or Safari(Yeah i've updated my java)and for exampleÂ
i made a HELLO WORLD simple applet to be in black color letters, then compiled and yeah it worked but then i redid it for the letters to be red.. and they kept being black..no matter how many times i recompiled the applet.Â
And yeah the HTML is pointing to the correct class file. Also, If if i add a Thread and implement runnable.. then nothing shows up in the canvas.Â
And also, what ever happened with the appletviewer application? We don't have that anymore.
now the only way to run applets is through a web browser. Â Is java applet developement in 10.6 really over?

As above really! Its really frustrating. It bounces in the dock as though it is about to start. It then brings up a box that asks if I would like to report it to Apple, which naturally I do.Â
My friend suggested uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its no good!Â
Its ever since the update to Java. Anyone else had similar problems?Â

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.
However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.
My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?
Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?
I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.

Yesterday, I got a disk read error when starting up Windows under Parallels Desktop. After some sleuthing, I found the offending file, and was about to restore from my Time Machine backup when I decided to make sure the disk wasn't going south. I booted off a second, backup, system drive that I keep just for this purpose, and ran aDrive Genius disk scan on the main system drive. All good, only 6Â bad blocks on a 1T drive. I ran this overnight, as it takes an hour or two.Â
This morning, after seeing this result, I booted from the internal system drive, located the offending file again, and entered Time Machine to restore the data. What I found was that ALL of my Time Machine backup data had been deleted. The only data there was a backup from late last night, that WAS FOR THE SECONDARY DRIVE I HAD BOOTED FROM. Seemingly, Time Machine had quietly gone and killed all previous data, and started from scratch backing up my spare drive.Â
There was no warning, no notice, nothing. Over a years worth of backups were gone, and my Parallels installation is now shot, since I can't fix the read problem. I'm contacting Parallels to see if there is any other remedy. You can imagine how absolutely mad I am at this.Â
NOTE:Â
1) I did not touch the backup drive during the boot of the second drive, or the scan test. It was not re-formatted or touched in any way (other than by system software)
2) No warning was given for the deletion

I've been having some troubles, all of which occurred after installing Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 7. Here are two I've found so far:Â
1. Terminal takes quite a long time to open new tabs.Â
2. Quicksilver hangs (and eventually crashes) when I try to type any type of text to search.Â
When the applications hang, no keyboard input is accepted in any application, though it is possible to use the mouse to move windows. how to revert back to Update 6?

I'm doing technical support for mac users of our java application. One user's problem is that the app doesn't launch. At first, I thought his version of java is not updated but told me that it is updated based on the Software Update. Then I thought the problem's here is that the JRE's not turned on so I made him open the Java Preferences. But sadly, this doesn't open too. I made him gave me the logs on the Console to check the error.

I re-ripped one of my CDs recently (for reasons of no importance), and I noticed that the audio improved. There was less distortion and I could notice more details (smoother sound). I tried this with a few more albums, and the result was the same each time: better sound. This confused me; how does ripping actually work? And what could be responsible for the sound difference? P.S. X Lossless Decoder also produces results different from iTunes.
