I have a Macbook Pro, just for home use. I noticed this 'Shared' access in Finder recently. It could have appeared after linking a new GPS device I got via a USB cable although it still appears without this being connected and after re-booting.I'm concerned over the security of my machine - does it mean someone has access to my Macbook Pro? I can't find any way to break the connection.
View 5 RepliesEver since upgrading to Snow Leopard and using Apple Mail, I have been getting the following error after a day or so of use: "Account exceeded bandwidth limits." Eventually I am able to access GMail via IMAP with Apple Mail, but only for about a day before this error occurs again. This doesn't affect my access to GMail via the web interface. Nothing has changed with my use of GMail since before the Snow Leopard upgrade and I've seen scattered reports of this on the 'net, but nothing that nails down a solid connection between the Snow Leopard upgrade and this error.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI currently have MacBook 13" and iMac both running on Snow Leopard. I have no problem connecting to the internet via Airport Express wifi but if I have to connect directly to internet from Ethernet port using Ethernet connection I can't connect to it. The Internet and Server lights are showing "amber" in the network diagnostic tool.
The modem is the DLink DSL 302G. I have used http://10.1.1.1/ to ensure the username and password of the ISP are correct. What I don't get is if it works via Apple's Airport Express router why wouldn't it work with straight Ethernet connection from the modem?
I've just upgraded to the new Snow Leapard 10.6.5 and I haven't been able to get internet since. I had to set up the TCP/IP manually because the self-assigned ip address wouldn't let me connect to my router. My mac says it's connected to my private network but there's no internet connection. What's the problem here?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop Mac that I used Migration Assistant to transfer my user setting etc. prior to selling my MacBook. All works well, except that everytime I try to print a document it pauses while looking for a shared network volume for a while before coming back saying "Connection Failed to MacBook". I deleted all printers and resent printers from preferences to add them back manually and repaired permissions however the problem is still happening everytime I try to print a document. Its as though its looking for the old MacBook.

It seems that every now and then my wifi will quit working. If I turn airport off and on it fixes it but I never had this problem in leopard.

'Network Connection'This is a reminder that your connection is still active. Do you wish to remain connected?
On Tiger it was easy to disable this reminder, but I can't seem to be able to do the same on SL.
As of this morning my Macbook is failing to connect to the internet even though both the ethernet and airport are showing they are connected and are green in the network panel. My husband's internet connection is fine (we both have Macbooks and go through the same router) hence I'm able to send this out. After looking at a similar discussion list, we have tried restarting the computer, deleting airport and adding it back in (although it's also an ethernet problem), deleting system configuration, restoring the whole Library..

o I took the plunge and giddily purchased Mac OS 10.6 aka Snow Leopard the day it was made available. Usually, I have very little worries being an early adopter to new OS releases considering the successful upgrade experiences I've had through the years of being a Mac user.
After upgrading to Snow Leopard from 10.5.8, my MacBook Pro 17" (2.6 GHz, 4GB RAM, 200GB @7200 RPM HDD, non-unibody) would consistently drop it's internet connection whether it was via Ethernet (wired) or through AirPort (wired and wireless are using DHCP). I've applied several supposed fixes suggested everywhere on the Googled web with limited success:* Reset Network settings, deleted "Automatic" settings and created a new setting (called untitled)
* Zap the PRAM (hold Command+Option+P+R on restart)
* Flush the DNS cache(using: dscacheutil -flushcache on the Terminal)
These 'fixes' worked only for a few minutes, and the internet connection would eventually drop again. NOTE: Although other computers and drives were visible on my network, and Instant Messaging via Adium is still functional, which is weird, I could not connect to the internet through a browser, or connect Mail.app or even to the iTunes store.
Tired and frustrated at this point, I decided to finally call Apple Support (Case #134733179) and was suggested to try the following steps:* Shutdown the MacBook Pro, remove battery, disconnect the power, and then hold the Power Key for 15 seconds. After which I was told to replace the battery, reconnect power and zap PRAM and wait for 2 chimes before letting the keys go.
I was able to get connection for a while but lost it again after a few minutes of usability.And so I called again and was told this time to try:* Trash the SystemConfiguration folder (~/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration) and all of it's contents... then reboot.
The above suggestion seemed logical as it would obliterate any existing preferences that may be corrupted and affecting the connection setup. The system would then recreate a fresh preference file free of any lingering old settings. This again worked for a while, but sadly, my wired and wireless connection both drops within a few minutes of usage. It is also worth noting that simply restarting the MacBook Pro regains connectivity as well but drops after a few minutes on both Ethernet and Airport settings.
So today has been an unproductive day considering I spent all my efforts troubleshooting Snow Leopard (10.6) on the MacBook Pro, and couple that with the inability to use several key functionality such as SynergyKM to sync all three machines I have with one keyboard/mouse (not to mention the unpredictable behavior Adobe CS3 has been displaying (especially InDesign losing menus and drawing blank palettes!) and the loss of Letterbox's (plugin) features on Mail.app) and I am now forced to downgrade back to 10.5.8 via Time Machine Restore until Apple resolves or acknowledges this problem (or some knowledgable individual throws this dog a bone and help me out of this misery).In the meantime, I need to get work done and something as fundamental as a stable internet connection should have been high on Apple's "must work" priority list.
I have one of every type of the newest Macs: MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro. Since upgrading them to Snow Leopard, none of them will connect to any wireless network -- regardless of the router (AirPort, Linksys, Cisco, etc.) and regardless of the type of security (open, WEP, WPA, etc.).
Every time I attempt to connect, I get the message that the "connection failed." Here's a 20 second screen recording of what's happening.
I have suddenly, since Friday 2 March, experienced very slow connection to one of my ISP's mailservers. Emails without attachments work ok'ish (a little "hesitantly"), emails with attachments of moderate sizes (eg. +/- 500 KB) download/upload extremely slowly and most of the time fail. I have asked my ISP, who are generally helpful, and they have tested the mailserver and can find nothing wrong. So, here we go: The problem is both for ethernet and wireless.The problem is for one account only. I have a different account with the same ISP, but on a different mailserver, which works absolutely fine.Two different Macs have the same problem. The other PCs with different ISP's accounts work fine.Router is working fine with good internet connection and email via one of the two accounts works fine.It is not a problem on my computer (since it is the same issue for two machines). Both run OSX 10.6.8I have tried both Entourage and Outlook on both machines; same problem everywhere - one account works, the other doesn't (properly).I have tried with my iPhone, using the same wireless connection and same account details, and it downloads emails with attachments speedily - emails that failed to download on the MBP/Outlook.I have tried one of the machines (a MacBook Pro) at home with a different wireless connection but to the same mailserver and it works fine there!This happened last Friday and no settings have been changed locally for months. My conclusion is (but may be wrong): The router is fineThe macs are fineThe email clients are fineGeneral connection to internet and mail is fineThe mailserver is probably fine But a connection between one mailserver account and the two macs has suddenly gone wrong. It is almost as if there is a setting on either the mailserver saying "I don't like that connection to that place, I will slow it down." or somewhere in this place saying "I don't like that account on that mailserver, I will slow it down."  The question then is:Which network setting is so specific that it can be this selective?

I'm setting up Safari for a child, and have Parental Controls enabled and am customizing the list of sites that can be visited. I'm allowing [URL] and have multiple http and https Netflix URL's allowed. However, when I test accessing this site, Safari gives an error stating that it cannot establish a "secure connection". The same computer, with a different account, can access the same URL without the error. My assumption would be that since I specifically allowed several [URL] URL's, that this would work just fine. By granting specific access, you are bypassing Parental Controls in a controlled way.Â

I connect with my MacBook Pro via ethernet to the internet. So far, I've never had a problem until a couple of days, I keep on loosing the internet connect. When clicking through diagnostics, ISP, Internet and Server show first organge then turn red. If clicking through the diagnostics, sometimes I am lucky and it shows a message saying "Network configurations have chnaged", when I click ok, I'm online again. But very often nothing helps and I have to re-start the router again.

One of the side benefits of getting my new iMac is that I get to see how a system looks when it's brand new, before I've messed with it.
When I set up Time Machine on my iMac I notice that the HD icon used looks pretty cool with a circular arrow on top. I didn't download it from some web site, it came that way. Over on my MacBook Pro the Time Machine HD icon is just white. I have no idea how it got that way.
My question is how do I get my MacBook Pro's Time Machine HD icon to look like the one on my iMac? Is there some hidden cache of icons on my system?

My son has a MacBook with Snow Leopard. We bought a new Epson Wirelss all in one printer. It is working fine on by desk pc. With the Mac, I had to download the drivers for SL from Epson. Did that. At the add printer screen, the Epson never shows up. I have uninstalled, and reinstalled at least 10 times. Twice, the name of the Epson flashed briefly onto the add printer screen and then disappeared. Any suggestions?

I was one of the unlucky ones to get this Trojan bug so decided to erase my disk and reload the system. In doing so, I did a lot of dragging from the backup to the new system not knowing how to restore and I did not want to bring this bug with the restore. So, here are my issues so far I am unable to resolve. Â
Address Book and Calendar are empty and I am unable to find the back up files to re-load them.Â

I'm using OSX Snow Leopard. Spotlight was unable to find a document in a folder. It found several others that have almost the same name, but not the one I was looking for. By scrolling down in the finder window I found it without spotlight right away.Â
To better explain my problem:
I was looking for a document that was called "Paperless". Spotlight found several document in different folders like "Paperlessone", Paperless2" etc. But not able to find "Paperless"Â
I checked the Spotlight options and it says, that it is looking for everything.

Not too long ago I looked through the list of things I had put in the Trash. Some how I over looked a document I should have removed from the Trash and Empetyed Trash. There is some way to locate what has been empteyed from the Trash and get it onto the Desktop. How do I do that?Â
I have not Secured Empty Trash... so my document should still be able to be found and removed from the Emptey Trash.

I recently upgraded to OX 10.6.8 (MacBook Pro). Now Quark Xpress and Microsoft Word can't find the fonts. They both see the same list of fonts. The fonts are all windows true type fonts (.ttf). The list of fonts available does not include all the .ttf fonts in the library. There is no font folder anywhere that has only the fonts that these two apps see in it. The apple apps I tested see all the fonts in the library. Â How do I make the fonts available to the non-apple applications?
