Sep 5, 2009It seems that every now and then my wifi will quit working. If I turn airport off and on it fixes it but I never had this problem in leopard.

Hardware :: Dropping Wifi Connection - App?
Apr 11, 2009I work for a business that sells a lot of computers, Macs specifically. We've got a wi-fi network in our building; however, the network constantly drops out. Despite our pleas to IT, they will not fix the issue. Our demo computers that customers can play with and consider purchasing often lose Internet access because of this. Whenever this happens, I have to manually turn the Airport off and then back on again, which will get it to reconnect. Does anybody know of a way to have the computer automatically do this every so often?

Jul 29, 2010Two computers in the house MacBook and iMac, running on an Airport Extreme network, which includes an Airport Express plugged into the stereo.
A brief power outage the other night (perhaps unrelated), and in the morning, the network was wonky: the iMac was only getting two or three bars, streaming radio to the Express kept flickering on and off. When that happens, rebooting the Airport base station, the router, and the Express usually takes care of it.
Since the reboot, the iMac hasn't been able to keep a connection to the network, and often can't find it. It may start off, but then loses the connection and then times out trying to reconnect. Or the network doesn't even appear in the list. Read that launching Network and running Diagnostic will fix problems and it sometimes does, but never for long.
All this time except for one brief bit where it suffered the same problem the MacBook has had no problem connecting to the network and the Internet.
Have rebooted everything multiple times in various orders, run Disk Utility, and even gone ahead and upgraded the iMac to Snow Leopard (laptop was recently upgraded).
Hardware :: IMac Dropping WiFi Active Connection
Jul 31, 2010My Linksys WRT610N with the latest firmware worked fantastically on multiple Windows 7-based ThinkPad. However, three (3) different iMac's have had the very same problem of dropping the connection and of my having to powercycle both my cable modem and the W610 router for it to work again at all! Once it drops the active connection, that's it. I have tried a few different settings and nothing has made a difference.
Can you maybe help point me in the right direction or should I just ditch it for an AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule? One additional point: It works worst in the 5GHz frequency band, even though there are none in my neighborhood, and if there are, they have their SSID's (network name) hidden. The 2.4GHz band is extremely crowded where I am which makes it difficult to enjoy my WiFi connection.
Intel Mac :: It Keeps Dropping And Instantly Resetting My Wifi Connection
Mar 28, 2012Every 2-20 minutes, my iMac is dropping, then instantly resetting my wifi connection. The actual wifi drop lasts no longer than 5 seconds, and instantly reconnects itself with no input from me... the problem is it completely interrupts any downloading, streaming, gaming, or anything else I might be doing that requires a constant internet connection. It seems to drop off just long enough to stop the connection, then it resets all on it's own.
I'm currently using a mid-2011 27 inch iMac intel core i5 3.1 ghz processor w/ OS X Lion 10.7.3. I have a Linksys router and a GCI issued modem, unsure of the brand as there are minimal markings on it. The internet/tv service (run by GCI) is smooth throughout the rest of my home, and no other items we own connected to the net seem to have the same problem...
I have tried soft resets on both the modem and router. I have restarted my machine several times and re-added the network location and wifi connection to my computer. I have unplugged both modem and router to let those reset and have unplugged and reconnected my coax cable for several minutes as well. No time of day seems to work well, and it's becoming quite difficult to work and do other fun functions like stream television or game

Apr 10, 2012My airport keeps dropping and it is wasting so much of my time. I have tried all the methods suggested online and none of the worked. I want to go back to snow leopard but I don't have my disc. And can I have my money back from Lion? I really will not use that until it is fixed.

Feb 20, 2008I have had my MacBook sense Oct. 2006 and not until recently had any problems with the airport. Currently it will connect to any network as per usual and then with out notice just cut out for a few seconds and then come back on.
This isn't a huge pain if Im just browsing the net but if I am trying to hold a conversation using skype, IM, or downloading things it can get very very annoying. It cuts out about every 2 mins. It is not a problem with weak signal because when it is on it is showing full bars.
I have tried it under both my home network and my university network both resulting in the same thing. Is this a hardware issue (crossing fingers it isn't!)? Anybody having similar problems?

IMac :: New 24" Keeps Dropping AirPort Connection?

I just purchased a new iMac 24" its beautiful. I hooked it up and it connected to my router without any real issues but it keeps dropping the connection at random, and its really getting irritating. Do i have a defective model? should i take it back?
So to sum it up, brand new iMac with Leopard installed, AirPort initially connects to my home network, and everything seems fine, but the connection drops at random, then comes back, VERY UNSTABLE. im ready to return the damn thing.
oh, both my pc's connect without any issues, also it seems like the network connection stays, just the internet goes away and in safari it says your computer isnt connected to the internet, but its connected to the network.
OS X :: Airport Express / IMac G4 Dropping Connection?
Oct 9, 2009I recently got an iMac G4. It had no wireless, and since that's what I use I bought the (correct) Airport Express Card. I installed it without a hitch, and it seemed to be working fine, until I reinstalled Leopard. Now every 2-3 minutes Airport will simply drop the connection. I have no idea why. I have updated all the firmware, but it continues to drop the connection.
I should also note that I'm on a MacBook right now that hasn't dropped the connection to the same wireless network.
Intel Mac :: Dropping Internet Connection Via Airport
Mar 19, 2012Since last week my iMac (Early 2009, OS 10.7.3) has been dropping its connection to the Internet. I'm using a router connected to an Airport Extreme and connect to it via WiFi. I tried connecting via Ethernet cable from modem to iMac but it would drop the connection entirely, which is why I had been connecting via WiFi. I have no problem with my other devices (iPad, iPhone and MacBook, this one with 10.7.2 installed), they connect immediately to the Internet and all, even the iMac, are able to connect to each other.Â
I already tried restaring the Airport Extreme, zapped the PRAM, reset the SMC, repaired permissions, disconnected the router and Airport from the power source and it still won't connect. Last time this happened, my iMac went to sleep and dropped the Internet connection after waking. I put it back to sleep and woke it using the power button as someone had suggested in another post, that helped and the connection was reestablished. This morning the iMac it was working fine, did not go to sleep at any time and suddenly dropped the connection, which I haven't been able to restore since.Â

Hardware :: Internet Connection Keeps Dropping - Using Airport Extreme?
Mar 16, 2009I have just recently started having this problem. It seems when the computer sits idle, the connection drops. I don't see my network in the dropdown menu. I open airport utility, and the extreme base station does not show up. I find I have to unplug it, or do an actual reset on it to get it to show up.
I try resetting the cable modem as well, but I have never had issue with the internet connection itself here before. I try restarting the computer. When it does come back online/show up in AIrport Utility, it seems kind of random because it will take a few attempts at all 3 methods mentioned before it just suddenly appears in Airport Utility. So I really have no idea what is helping. The process is a pain in the butt though.
I have searched around, but I can't find many current articles on the problem.
The only other info I can offer is that I never had any problems until I installed the last Airport Utility update. I am running 10.5.6. The problem doesn't seem to happen while I am working, and online frequently.
I don't even know where to start trouble shooting.
Hardware :: Airport Extreme Dropping Internet Connection?
Nov 1, 2009I have a 3 month old Airport Extreme Base Station(dual band) running a secured 2.4 and 5GHz network.
It is dropping it's wireless internet(not signal, just internet) on my 13" Unibody MBP at least 2 or 3 times per day. Not at a certain time, or under certain circumstances, and I can't replicate it. My computer will continue to see the networks(named airFORBUSH and airFORBUSH(5GHz)), but there will be no internet, and it won't stay connected to them. If I connect to the network named "FORBUSH", which is our Linksys network, it connects and is up and running again, so I know it's not our ISP.
Here's my setup in my house(I'm the only one having this issue, since I'm the only one running wireless on the AEBS

I have several devices connected to my wireless network.
MacBook, VistaPC, Printers, AppleTV etc, etc, etc,....
Just recently, my iPhone and the kid's iPod Touch keep getting dropped from the network. The wi-fi icon disappears, and my 3G icon comes up. I'm standing right next to the Airport !!
Sometimes i can reset my wireless and it stays stable for a couple days, but then it happens again.

Mac Pro :: Wifi Connection Dropping From Time To Time?
Mar 15, 2012MacPro wifi connection dropping from time to time I'm having a strange issue around my MacPro 1,1 2006. When I startup the computer, the wifi runs fine, good connection (all bars), fast response, etc... But something like 20 to 30min after that, the wifi logo still with all bars but even google doesn't load. So, my network is a modem and 3 routers, the first one is a Linksys that goes through cable to a Time Capsule 1TB (were the Macpro connects) and from there to another router in the floor above, a Pacific wifi. My Macbook Pro 15" connects perfectly to my time machine, but the MacPro have this issue.Â

IMac :: Kindle 3 Airport Wifi Connection
Sep 1, 2010I got my Kindle 3 today (yes I bought one over the ipad simply due to the price) and Ive spent some time trying to connect it to my imacs airport wi-fi. I have tried Customer service over at Amazon but sadly, no reply as of yet. It seems that the Kindle wont connect to "enterprise or peer-to-peer networks". So everytime, I enable sharing and my network shows up - it either wont accept the password or it tells me that "Kindle does not currently connect to enterprise or peer-to-peer networks"

Jul 10, 2010I used to have a problem with my late-2006 13" white MacBook where, if I opened up a bunch of Safari tabs/windows at a time, or a bunch too quickly, or was downloading podcasts with iTunes and opened up another internet-dependent app?my wireless connection would drop. I would still see the full signal strength in the menu bar (all four "bars" of that rounded signal monitor), but the Up and Down activity would drop to 0.
The only way to re-start the connection was to click on the signal monitor, select Turn Airport Off, and then just select Turn Airport (back) On. Only then, would the connection come back on. This was a pain, especially if I was in the middle of a big download, as I usually had to restart the whole download..................

Apr 9, 2012I just experienced something totally weird on my Snow Leopard. It starts suddenly dropping in the free memory (green) in my activity monitor with around 10 MB per second and the inactive (purple) memory grows. And it doesn't stop until it hits 10 free MB.

OS X :: Internet Connection Keeps Dropping Connection?
Aug 12, 2009I know there are a lot of similar threads all around different forums, but nothing really helped and I was hoping some of you smart ladies/guys can help solve this issue once and for all.
Here's the deal:
My main desktop computer (Compaq windows XP computer) is set-up upstairs where the cable router and linksys wireless router are placed (which is right next to the desktop on the desk). My Macbook (running Tiger and is 3 years old) and iMac (running Leopard and is not even 1 year old yet) are set-up downstairs in my new office. This room is in the basement, however the room is almost directly above the main office where the wired desktop computer resides.
Prior to setting up my office downstairs, my sister lived with my family in the basement and had her windows Vista laptop set-up without any internet connection issues. Her internet never dropped on her laptop, and neither did the connection on her wireless all-in-one printer/scanner/copier. Cell phone reception/internet connection in the basement is also great.
When I set up my iMac and Macbook however a few weeks ago, the internet keeps dropping connection! I do not understand this when my sister had no problems at all with her laptop getting internet connection, when she was living with us. The internet connection will stay good for either 10-30 minutes and then drop, or it could be good for up to an hour and then drop.

Aug 28, 2009Is anyone else having problems with SL dropping your wireless connections. I've never had any problems with Leopard and my home wireless network but SL has dropped my connection numerous times since I did my install. The only way to recover seems to be to reboot my computer.

Nov 27, 2009I just bought a MBP 13 inch in August '09 and Ive been experiencing consistent dropped internet connections wherever I go. I'm in college right now, and I have wireless internet at my dorm and my connection keeps dropping randomly and the only way I can reconnect is by turning on and off Airport. I just went home today and Im experiencing the same scenario with my Home Wireless Network connection. Anyone know whats going on or how I can fix this?
