OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: After Upgrading To 10.6.8, Apps Can't Find Fonts

May 13, 2012

I recently upgraded to OX 10.6.8 (MacBook Pro). Now Quark Xpress and Microsoft Word can't find the fonts. They both see the same list of fonts. The fonts are all windows true type fonts (.ttf). The list of fonts available does not include all the .ttf fonts in the library. There is no font folder anywhere that has only the fonts that these two apps see in it. The apple apps I tested see all the fonts in the library.  How do I make the fonts available to the non-apple applications?

OS X :: Won't Find Apps For Upgrading OS

Oct 3, 2009

I am working on an iMac, 1.83 GHz, my OS version is 10.4.11. I became interested in upgrading as I really want to be able to use the new Blackberry sync application for Mac that was released the other day. I found the 10.5.1 version by googling it, but cannot find a 10.5.0 version for download anywhere (seems to be a requirement before the 10.5.1, much to my newbie chagrin).

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Spotlight Can't Find TextEdit, Other Apps Found Ok

I have a very odd problem. Spotlight can't find TextEdit anymore, even if I type the name of the app fully in the field. The app is right where it should be in the Applications folder. It hasn't been excluded from search and I have done a reindex of Spotlight but the problem persists. Other apps come up exactly right.

how to keep my Tiger applications (relatively) functional when I upgrade to Leopard. I have Carbon Copy Cloner. The question(s) is/are:

1. If I make a selective backup, what folders other than Applications to I choose from my current Tiger HD?

2. Once I know which Folders to backup, can I save as a dmg?

3. If I can save as a dmg, how do I restore the Applications to the Leopard system without running into "issues."

OS X :: Missing Fonts In Snow Leopard - How To Fix It

Aug 30, 2009

I have run into after installing Snow Leopard on my machine. It is really the first complaint I have since I put the OS in on the 28th and I am just having time to sit down and toy around with it and I discovered this issue.

When I was playing around in a few Adobe applications, specifically Flash, it warned me when opening a project that I was missing a few fonts form the project and that they would be substituted.

Going into my font Library I looked for the fonts that it said were missing and confirmed that they STILL EXISTED in the folder. After double checking, I realized that a lot of my fonts were missing from the application.

After opening Word 2008, I noticed that a lot of my fonts missing from Word as well. I shut down Word and tried rebuilding the Font Cache by dragging the Word font cache file out to the desktop but Word did not rebuild it's font menu with the missing fonts.

Here's where it gets interesting. When opening an Apple application like Mail, all of my fonts that are present in the font folder show up. This is INCLUDING all of the fonts that are missing in Adobe and Word. Opening a program like Adium also shows that all of the fonts are there.

Applications :: Microsoft Fonts On Snow Leopard?

Jan 12, 2010

I did a search and I found soem sort of compatibility pack by Microsoft for Office 2004 that includes fonts like Calibri. My problem is I don't use Office, I use NeoOffice. I tried taking the Calibri font from my Windows 7 machine and dumping it into the fonts directory on the Macbook, but it doesn't look right Is there a special font pack I should download? Here is what it looks like - Calibri on the left, Arial on the right. I could use Arial, but in my next class I'm going to do alot of group work, and if I work on a file in Calibiri, and send it to everyone else in Arial they might get annoyed. Or if the formatting is changed due to changing a font I'll look like a dope ruining everything with his Mac.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Fonts Not Available In Applications Although Installed?

Jun 23, 2012

There are a few fonts (OTF/TTF/PSF...) I have installed with Font Explorer X, what won't show up in ANY application.Even Text Edit won't display them. However this isn't a problem linked to Font Explorer because before this I had Suitcafe Fusion 3 and had the same problem. What makes it strange is that there are a few fonts of some families that DO show up although they are JUST THE SAME as the fonts that won't show up and are from the SAME family.

I cleaned my cache numerous times with applications like Font Finagler and checked everywhere for font corruptions or duplicates with applications like Font Doctor but nothing seemed wrong or corrupted. If I go and check the fonts in System Profiler it clearly says they are valid and enambled.

Now what makes it even more unexplainable is that when I install the fonts trough Font Book and shut down the font manager, they DO show up...Howevery I'm not really happy abouth that because Font Book is a crappy font manager and I paid money for a good one...

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: User Fonts Missing From Book But Still In Folder?

May 8, 2012

My user fonts suddenly don't show up in font book. I've tried all the standard fixes.- restarted in SAFE mode. - cleared the font cache- verified the disc- repaired permissions- reinstalled both font book and the user font folder from an older version in Time Machine- Verified all the fonts.

I haven't tried tossing them in another user account yet because I find the idea of having to reset up the entire user account alarming. Is there anything else I can try? These fonts all worked just days ago.

If I click on the fonts in the user folder they come up 'installed' and reappear. But as soon as I close and reopen fontbook they disappear again. Here's the general console readout (the short version, there is a lot more of the same.)   5/8/12 9:58:58 PM-Mac-JuniorFont Book[591]Warning##### ERROR:  Could not get CTFontRef for file:///Users/terri2/Library/Fonts/Edward.ttf#postscript-name=Besafe; resyncing Font Book and XType 5/8/12 9:58:58 PM-Mac-JuniorFont Book[591]Warning##### ERROR:  file:///Users/terri2/Library/Fonts/Edward.ttf#postscript-name=Besafe has no family name 5/8/12 9:58:58 PM-Mac-JuniorFont Book[591]Warning##### ERROR:  Could not get CTFontRef for file:///Users/terri2/Library/Fonts/Jagged%20dreams.ttf#postscript-name=JaggedDr eams; resyncing Font Book and XType

OS X V10.4 :: 10.4.11 Upgrading To Snow Leopard / DVD Won't Load

Apr 2, 2012

I could use a bit of help updating my macbook from 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard. I have 10.4.11 and i'm updating to 10.6, Snow Leopard. I've already checked basic requirements, backed up and i'm ready to install.I chatted with a apple specialist when I purchased the dvd for snow leopard and asked if it was what i needed to upgrade all three of my macs; 2 running 10.5.8 and one running 10.4.11. They said yes. I had no trouble updating the machines running 10.5.8.But the one running 10.4.11 isn't so easy. The trouble is the install DVD will not boot and just shuts down the hard drives (the machine says 'restartto begin install' but when i restart the dvd spits out on restart). Does anyone know how to get the disk to install? Mounting the disk didnt work either, it allows me to begin the installation but then the machine reboots.

I'd done some research previously and was told by Apple that i needed to get the Box Set in order to upgrade my machine running 10.4.11. However according to apple's support forums url... the Snow Leopard upgrade should work. I just don't know if there are special steps.

Nothing happened but it went back to the OS Lion page and the little gear wheel at the top of the page has been spinning ever since, been at least 15 minutes now.  Is it downloading or is the wheel just spinning and I am wasting my time?  I knew it would take some time to download, but I does that spinning wheel mean that is taking place?

Applications :: Upgrading To Snow Leopard For ILife 11

Nov 10, 2010

I have Leopard, the late edition of 09, or was it '08, in October? Anyhow, I am going tomorrow to upgrade to Snow Leopard mainly so that I can have iLife 11, but it is not compatible with Leopard. My question is this when I am installing the new stuff, do I need to go thru and delete anything at all??? Or do my things transfer over automatically? Also, will this new software, or is it hardware? will it take up more space on my Macbook or does it override Leopard, kind of take it's place and not take up more space on my computer? Yeah, I know, once again, lay(wo)man's terms and I know that I should know this stuff but I don't. I also do not have any external device backing up my stuff, which I know is a HUGE and COLOSSAL mistake. Is there an easy way to back stuff up, online or something? What about an inexpensive way? What do you all suggest for that, backing up, INEXPENSIVELY? Flash drives are out of the question for something of this measure, right? Discs also? I know nothing about this and I'm guessing that before I go installing Snow Leopard & iLife 11, that I need to consider this.
