I've just upgraded to the new Snow Leapard 10.6.5 and I haven't been able to get internet since. I had to set up the TCP/IP manually because the self-assigned ip address wouldn't let me connect to my router. My mac says it's connected to my private network but there's no internet connection. What's the problem here?
View 5 RepliesI currently have MacBook 13" and iMac both running on Snow Leopard. I have no problem connecting to the internet via Airport Express wifi but if I have to connect directly to internet from Ethernet port using Ethernet connection I can't connect to it. The Internet and Server lights are showing "amber" in the network diagnostic tool.
The modem is the DLink DSL 302G. I have used http://10.1.1.1/ to ensure the username and password of the ISP are correct. What I don't get is if it works via Apple's Airport Express router why wouldn't it work with straight Ethernet connection from the modem?
As of this morning my Macbook is failing to connect to the internet even though both the ethernet and airport are showing they are connected and are green in the network panel. My husband's internet connection is fine (we both have Macbooks and go through the same router) hence I'm able to send this out. After looking at a similar discussion list, we have tried restarting the computer, deleting airport and adding it back in (although it's also an ethernet problem), deleting system configuration, restoring the whole Library..

I connect with my MacBook Pro via ethernet to the internet. So far, I've never had a problem until a couple of days, I keep on loosing the internet connect. When clicking through diagnostics, ISP, Internet and Server show first organge then turn red. If clicking through the diagnostics, sometimes I am lucky and it shows a message saying "Network configurations have chnaged", when I click ok, I'm online again. But very often nothing helps and I have to re-start the router again.

I recently did a clean install of leopard and then migrated my account back on to my MBP non-santa rosa 2.33. Now, when I attempt to internet share from my ethernet to computers using airport, they are able to see the network, connect to it, and put in the password, but internet fails to connect. I'm on a college network, but this shouldn't really matter since I currently have a network of this type working perfectly on an iMac running Tiger. The signal reads at full strength and behaves just like it should, just it doesn't allow an internet connection. No firewall is on.

I have a MacPro Early 2009, 2 ethernet ports.Ethernet 1 is connected to the LAN and Ethernet 2 is connected directly to a SSL Matrix console (an audio mixer), whom driver needs the used ethernet port to be first of the list in the Network connections list in System Preferences.So when I browse internet I can't use the Matrix's software, and vice versa.I had to create 2 different network positions to browse internet and to work with SSL Matrix, one with Eth 1 first place, another one with Eth 2 first place, and I always have to swap positions.Is there a way to force OSX to use by default the 2nd connection of the list for internet access?Â

I'm on holiday using my mobile phone (Nokia N80) to connect to the Internet over GPRS / EDGE / UMTS. Everything works like a charm, but often the Internet Connect applet drops the connection and just hangs disconnecting.
I'm running OS X 10.4.7 on a 17" Macbook pro, but I have the same result on a iBook G4, same OS X version, and even trying with a different mobile phone (Nokia 6600) and different network service provider.
Firstly I am sorry if this has been posted before, but I did have a look at the Snow Leopard FAQ & a browse through the current topics. And secondly, I am also sorry if I am not using appropriate computer language to describe certain things. I have a 17 inch Macbook Pro I bought in the middle of last year. Before Snow Leopard. So when Snow Leopard came along I went for the upgrade without looking around at compatibility issues with certain software.
So after the upgrade, my EyeTV didn't work, and neither did my internet (I use the ones with the USB stick). So I couldn't even go online to get my EyeTV update. So in my (brief) panick I re-installed Leopard, which wasn't a great idea I guess, because all of a sudden my HD space went down to 50GB from my 500GB of storage. Now I know I didn't have the full 500GB since I did have some photos, music & videos on board. But surely 50GB remaining is quite ridiculous. I think it probably performed a Time Machine backup for me.
Anyway... that was awhile ago. And I was happy to carry on with what I had. But now I think I would like to try what Snow Leopard has to offer. But with only 18GB of space remaining, I think the best option might be to reformat and start over. What do you guys think? My other option is to try to delete as much as I can spare to make room for Snow Leopard. Sorry if this question is a silly one, but I have done a lot of things with my iPhone & with this Mac without thinking & asking first & I have always regretted it. Thanks for any help or suggestions you all can offer.
I have a desktop Mac that I used Migration Assistant to transfer my user setting etc. prior to selling my MacBook. All works well, except that everytime I try to print a document it pauses while looking for a shared network volume for a while before coming back saying "Connection Failed to MacBook". I deleted all printers and resent printers from preferences to add them back manually and repaired permissions however the problem is still happening everytime I try to print a document. Its as though its looking for the old MacBook.

I have a Macbook Pro, just for home use. I noticed this 'Shared' access in Finder recently. It could have appeared after linking a new GPS device I got via a USB cable although it still appears without this being connected and after re-booting.I'm concerned over the security of my machine - does it mean someone has access to my Macbook Pro? I can't find any way to break the connection.

'Network Connection'This is a reminder that your connection is still active. Do you wish to remain connected?
On Tiger it was easy to disable this reminder, but I can't seem to be able to do the same on SL.
o I took the plunge and giddily purchased Mac OS 10.6 aka Snow Leopard the day it was made available. Usually, I have very little worries being an early adopter to new OS releases considering the successful upgrade experiences I've had through the years of being a Mac user.
After upgrading to Snow Leopard from 10.5.8, my MacBook Pro 17" (2.6 GHz, 4GB RAM, 200GB @7200 RPM HDD, non-unibody) would consistently drop it's internet connection whether it was via Ethernet (wired) or through AirPort (wired and wireless are using DHCP). I've applied several supposed fixes suggested everywhere on the Googled web with limited success:* Reset Network settings, deleted "Automatic" settings and created a new setting (called untitled)
* Zap the PRAM (hold Command+Option+P+R on restart)
* Flush the DNS cache(using: dscacheutil -flushcache on the Terminal)
These 'fixes' worked only for a few minutes, and the internet connection would eventually drop again. NOTE: Although other computers and drives were visible on my network, and Instant Messaging via Adium is still functional, which is weird, I could not connect to the internet through a browser, or connect Mail.app or even to the iTunes store.
Tired and frustrated at this point, I decided to finally call Apple Support (Case #134733179) and was suggested to try the following steps:* Shutdown the MacBook Pro, remove battery, disconnect the power, and then hold the Power Key for 15 seconds. After which I was told to replace the battery, reconnect power and zap PRAM and wait for 2 chimes before letting the keys go.
I was able to get connection for a while but lost it again after a few minutes of usability.And so I called again and was told this time to try:* Trash the SystemConfiguration folder (~/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration) and all of it's contents... then reboot.
The above suggestion seemed logical as it would obliterate any existing preferences that may be corrupted and affecting the connection setup. The system would then recreate a fresh preference file free of any lingering old settings. This again worked for a while, but sadly, my wired and wireless connection both drops within a few minutes of usage. It is also worth noting that simply restarting the MacBook Pro regains connectivity as well but drops after a few minutes on both Ethernet and Airport settings.
So today has been an unproductive day considering I spent all my efforts troubleshooting Snow Leopard (10.6) on the MacBook Pro, and couple that with the inability to use several key functionality such as SynergyKM to sync all three machines I have with one keyboard/mouse (not to mention the unpredictable behavior Adobe CS3 has been displaying (especially InDesign losing menus and drawing blank palettes!) and the loss of Letterbox's (plugin) features on Mail.app) and I am now forced to downgrade back to 10.5.8 via Time Machine Restore until Apple resolves or acknowledges this problem (or some knowledgable individual throws this dog a bone and help me out of this misery).In the meantime, I need to get work done and something as fundamental as a stable internet connection should have been high on Apple's "must work" priority list.
I have one of every type of the newest Macs: MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro. Since upgrading them to Snow Leopard, none of them will connect to any wireless network -- regardless of the router (AirPort, Linksys, Cisco, etc.) and regardless of the type of security (open, WEP, WPA, etc.).
Every time I attempt to connect, I get the message that the "connection failed." Here's a 20 second screen recording of what's happening.
I have suddenly, since Friday 2 March, experienced very slow connection to one of my ISP's mailservers. Emails without attachments work ok'ish (a little "hesitantly"), emails with attachments of moderate sizes (eg. +/- 500 KB) download/upload extremely slowly and most of the time fail. I have asked my ISP, who are generally helpful, and they have tested the mailserver and can find nothing wrong. So, here we go: The problem is both for ethernet and wireless.The problem is for one account only. I have a different account with the same ISP, but on a different mailserver, which works absolutely fine.Two different Macs have the same problem. The other PCs with different ISP's accounts work fine.Router is working fine with good internet connection and email via one of the two accounts works fine.It is not a problem on my computer (since it is the same issue for two machines). Both run OSX 10.6.8I have tried both Entourage and Outlook on both machines; same problem everywhere - one account works, the other doesn't (properly).I have tried with my iPhone, using the same wireless connection and same account details, and it downloads emails with attachments speedily - emails that failed to download on the MBP/Outlook.I have tried one of the machines (a MacBook Pro) at home with a different wireless connection but to the same mailserver and it works fine there!This happened last Friday and no settings have been changed locally for months. My conclusion is (but may be wrong): The router is fineThe macs are fineThe email clients are fineGeneral connection to internet and mail is fineThe mailserver is probably fine But a connection between one mailserver account and the two macs has suddenly gone wrong. I'm setting up Safari for a child, and have Parental Controls enabled and am customizing the list of sites that can be visited. I'm allowing [URL] and have multiple http and https Netflix URL's allowed. However, when I test accessing this site, Safari gives an error stating that it cannot establish a "secure connection". The same computer, with a different account, can access the same URL without the error. My assumption would be that since I specifically allowed several [URL] URL's, that this would work just fine. By granting specific access, you are bypassing Parental Controls in a controlled way.Â

I have a linksys wrt54g2 router and a aluminum macbook 2.4ghz running snow leopard. every so often, like when i am torrenting or sharing media to my ps3, my internet will suddenly go dead. The wifi bars are still there, but i have to turn my airport off and on again to get interent again. This is spiratic, BTW i of course have tried restarting my computer.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI've been having a few troubles sharing the internet from my MBP to my Xbox 360 lately. My university only lets us have ONE wireless card registered on the system for security reasons, or else I would just use the Xbox 360 Wi-Fi Adapter. I share the internet over an ethernet cable to my Xbox. Lately something weird has been happening, internet sharing stops working.
Not just a simple drop in the Airport connection, but the actual setting for Internet Sharing changes on it's own. My computer isn't restarting when this happens, it's random when it's still online. Usually if it drops signal from the access point it still starts working again after the signal picks up. I go into the Sharing preferences to find that the Internet Sharing check box has unchecked itself. Once I check it back and restart my Xbox 360, it works again.
My internet is brutally slow, regardless of the app, including Safari, App Store, Skype, etc.Another computer in the household has Windows and is running fine. I have tried all of the reasonable attempts to fix this that I've read about, including:Punching in new DNS codes in the Network area of System Preferences.Deleted the cache, the browser history in Safari, and disabling browser plug ins. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Flash player (as this is where the connection suffers the most, in trying to stream videos on BBC, YouTube, etc).Going into my Library then moving and deleting the ".plist" for Safari. In general, on websites or the App Store for example, what happens is -- basic text will pop up after about 3 or 4 seconds of hanging, then even the slightest bit of content, including thumbnails, take several seconds per image. Anything even slightly more intense on bandwidth, like a streaming video or Flash menu, takes forever to load, if not outright gives up on me and never loads.   My machine is on Snow Leopard, a white Macbook, OSX is currently 10.6.8, which I believe I've had for several months, but this problem is only a day or two old. If I recall correctly, I did install the latest Security Update -- whatever the new ones are circa Feb. 3rd, 2012 -- within a day or two BEFORE this problem started happening... I believe this may be the culprit but strange in that there was some time before this problem surfaced, or so it seemed.

I just installed the wwdc Snow Leopard preview via ADC to test an ebay app I work on. Everything works fine, except for the network connections. WHile Airport can scan and pick up networks, it cannot connect to them. Ethernet is active, but it does not connect to the internet. I have send problem report to Apple, but I dont expect that it will resolve the problem soon.

I went and bought snow leopard. I was told by the person at best buy that It would erase everything on my computer. It did not. SO now I have a new problem A long time ago I deleted everything that came with iLife since I never used it. I recently wanted to use some of the things again, so I was excited because now I could install snow leopard, and it would all be new and nice. It is exactly the same now. I have the discs that came with my computer when I bought it, and I have had to use them once to fix my computer when it crashed. Well I want to know if I can re install these discs, with leopard on them, and then after they get done, install Snow Leopard, and it would be all new with iLife 08' on it,and then I could use the internet to update them to 09'?
