I recently purchased a powerbook G4 running version 10.5.8. I am able to login to everything and set my username as the administrator, but I can not set a password for it, if i try to input a password or change the password I get an error message saying I have input an incorrect password. When I purchased the computer everything was blank except for the user name was set as mac user, as I said I was able to change the username but not the password.

Currently working on a mobile lab of 25 Macbooks(10.6.8) and a USB printer. (Users connect the cable when they need to print)(no matter what printer I connect)
Every time any user(even admin) prints, it requires a local admin or network admin user/pass to print.
I tried to use install dvd which asks for password which I have forgotten.

I'm running a bootcamped Windows Vista and I forgot the password to the only admin account. Anyway to fix this without reinstalling the entire system? I don't have access to an installation dvd now either, so anything using that is not possible.

For example, when I got to update the flash player it instead asks me to type your password to allow Install Adobe Flash Player to make changes. It lists my name but for the life of me I dont remember the password (in reality I dont recall setting it up).

my problem is that on a restart of one of my 10.6.8 Servers parts of the Serveradmin configs are gone while some of them persists. The lost configs are everytime the same: VPN (complete) and iChat (a secondary but very important Host-Domain). Of course a can restore them from a backup but that shouldn't the standard procedure after a restart....Â

I recently just upgraded to Snow Leopard two days ago. Since then, I have lost the Hard Disk drive icons and I don't know how to get it back. In fact, I have no icons on my desktop at all except for the external hard drive that I have plugged in. How do I get my icons back? Especially the main hard disk one.

First timer here. I bought a used G4 MDD 1.25 dual FW800 recently. Was pre-loaded with 10.5.6. I thought that I would add a hard drive. After attempting to format, it rebooted to a gray screen with a MacMonitor icon. If I hit "option", I can get it to progress to a blue screen w/ padlock asking for a password. I only remember setting a user password. I believe this is asking for an admin password.
So, I thought that I'd get the 10.5.6 Install disk to reset the password. I can't seem to boot from the Install disk! I've tried holding down the "c" key at startup, (also the "option" key). No avail.
I bought a computer on craigslist and I can't download certain programs because I don't have the admin. password. Is it possible to reset this w/o a start up disc which I don't have?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have used Disk Utility to attempt to password protect a folder but its not working for me. I go to FILE>NEW>DISK IMAGE FROM FOLDER I then highlight the folder I want to password protect and click the IMAGE button. In the window that pops up, I then select 128 bit encryption and leave image format on COMPRESSED.Then I enter and verify the password I want to place on the folder and hit OK.The resulting disk image appears to have been modified, but when I double click on the supposedly password secured folder, nothing happens. The folder doesn't open, nor does a window pop up asking for a password.I'm running snow leopard.Â

I've got an external har drive that i've been using for the last 6 months as my time machine back-up. I've used the disk utility in the past to create an image and password protect my drive that way. But.is there a way i can use the same process for a drive that already has content on it? Can i password protect my drive using the disk utility which will password any current content as well as any future content? Â
