I have dvd's for studying that I wish to put on my computer rather than always carrying around all the discs. How do I do this?

I'm the admin on my Macbook and after I restarted it earlier am essentially locked out of everything on my HD save for the Applications folder. I keep getting the error "The folder "Documents" can't be opened because you don't have the permission to see its contents" and would like to regain access to it as I have not backed up my stuff in about a month because of a Time Machine issue.Â
I don't know if it's related to this but all the prefernces have been changed to default and cannot change them in system prefrences.Â
I'd just like to get my stuff back and am fine with a clean install. I have access to 3 external drives: a 1 TB FW400 which stores my backups, a 120GB FW400 other external, and a 2TB USB one. Could it be possible to install OS X on the 120, boot from there, copy everything on the Macbook's disk to the 2TB, and then restore from a much earlier Time Machine backup on the 1TB once OS X is sucessfully reinstalled?Â
Alternativly is there a simple terminal command I can use?Â

i have a macbook 2.0 unibody. i just bought 500Gb internal hard drive and i want to replace the stock 160Gb with it. how do i move all my stuff from my old drive to the new one? i don't have the cash to buy an external hard drive just so i can move my stuff back and forth, i will have no need for an external right now since i have a 500Gb internal. someone told me to get an HDD caddy and use the stock drive as an external. what i am wondering is, will i be able to transfer all my applications without having the install files (i deleted all my install files as soon as i installed them). is it going to be a simple "drag and drop" kind of deal and every file knows exactly where to go? i just don't know what complications might come about.

Will my apps and stuff and things I've downloaded disappear when I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mavericks? I am afraid everything will go away Do I need a USB to put my stuff in and then put it back when Mavericks has been applied? Because i'm downloading Mavericks right now and my iMac is so old it doesn't support half the stuff the new ones do. It was made in early 2009. And also, if it will stay, would it go away if I entered a different apple ID when it will reboot and say "Enter APPLE ID"

I'm not too experienced with computers and would like some information on what that process involves. Aside from that, I would also like to know the easiest way to transfer the files on the default HDD to the SSD. My Seagate hard rive is saying that it is formatted NTFS when I plug it into my new mac. I have only ever used it on a mac and it didn't ever say this when i used it on my old computer.. Im not quite sure what to do because I have no where to put all my stuff to reformat it?

I just noticed that I cant bring up my music/tvshows/movies from my itunes library (from my mac) on my ipad. I checked all the home sharing setting on the mac and on the ipad, restarted everything, to no avail! My apple tv works fine! I recently updated my OS on the iMac to 10.7.4, would this cause the issue? I am running 5.1.1 on the ipad.

I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my Mac Pro and also backup using Time Machine. My main (startup) hard drive is close to failing-- before it does I want to transfer everything to a new internal drive. Seems to be there are several ways to do this:
1. Clone the original drive to the newer drive with 3rd party software (such as ChronoSync?)
2. Restore to the new HDD from Time Machine (which I believe requires me to clean install Snow Leopard on the new drive?)
3. Use Migration Assistant.
Which would be the best route?

I have a new iMac and I want to transfer my Apple Mail from my older Mac Book Pro running Snow Leopard to it. I've zipped up the Mail folder that was under Library and I found out how to access the hidden Library on my iMac. I see mail has changed a bit in Lion and before I unzip my mail folder into /Library/Mail, I want to make sure I won't screw anything up.Â

Simple, I have a file on the desktop and I want to copy it to a folder in my external drive.Â
The Problem Instead of pasting the file in the selected folder it is pasting it in the root directory. It does this with my external drive as well as my internal mac drive. Never have seen this before.
