How do you transfer the stickie data file from one mac to another?
Info:MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
Trying to transfer data from Mc 10.6.8 to a new Mac Air on my home wireless network. Starts off ok and after 15 minutes...Macair message says the other Mac isn't responding...Check network devices for connection and being turned on. All seems to be connected and on and all within 12 inches of each other.

So my current computer is an iBook G4, running 10.4. It's been a good computer for me, but it is certainly starting to show it's age and slowing down. I'm thinking of upgrading to a Macbook Pro with 10.6. My question is what would be the best way to transfer my data from my iBook to a new Macbook Pro? Thank you.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSimple, I have a file on the desktop and I want to copy it to a folder in my external drive.
The Problem Instead of pasting the file in the selected folder it is pasting it in the root directory. It does this with my external drive as well as my internal mac drive. Never have seen this before.

Just recently I decided to format my Western Digital 1TB external HD from FAT32 to NTFS, due to NTFS having capabilities to transfer single files bigger than 4GB. So before formatting it, I transferred all the data onto my MacBook Pro and then did the full NTFS format of the external HD.
Now the problem is I CANNOT transfer the data back onto my external hard drive because apparently Mac OS can only read the NTFS files and not write on there.
I do not wish to re-format my external HD back to FAT32, therefore I'd like to ask you guys whether something could be done about this? (Btw, I've seen some site like the NTFS-3G site but I'm not sure if that applies to me and how to use it anyway.) How could I transfer data back and forth from the NTFS external HD to Mac OS?
I just bought a new Macbook Pro as a gift for the guy that builds the websites for my businesses. It is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I also have a brand new 320gb 7200rpm HD that I got for $69.99 a few weeks ago. When I recieve the laptop tomorrow, I want to install the new harddrive in it before I give it to him.
What is the easiest process?
1. Install the new harddrive and do fresh install of Leapord?
2. Somehow clone or transfer the contents of the original harddrive to the new harddrive?
If the answer is #2, how do I go about doing this?
Just retired my G3-333 MHz (Gossamer MT). Had two (250 GB SATA) HD?s running 10.4.11. Put one in my ?New? G5 2.0 GHz Duel Core, which also has a 250 GB HD running Leopard. I have thousands of MS Word & PDF documents stored on my G3 drives. When I drag & drop my documents onto the Leopard drive ? their blue, white, red, colored icons are transformed into a bunch of ?non-descript? almost translucent icons. This really sucks ? One should be able to distinguish various types of documents at a glance! Does anyone know how to get the icons for Adobe PDF & MS Word documents, which were standardized between OS 8 and OS 10.4.11, to appear ?normal? in the Leopard OS? Is there a ?Preferences? setting or a ?Third Party? software fix for something like this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my Mac Pro and also backup using Time Machine. My main (startup) hard drive is close to failing-- before it does I want to transfer everything to a new internal drive. Seems to be there are several ways to do this:
1. Clone the original drive to the newer drive with 3rd party software (such as ChronoSync?)
2. Restore to the new HDD from Time Machine (which I believe requires me to clean install Snow Leopard on the new drive?)
3. Use Migration Assistant.
Which would be the best route?

View 2 Replies View RelatedReports have been cropping up on the Apple Support forums that users have been losing all their data due to a nasty bug in Snow Leopard, Apple's latest Operating System. Many users are reporting that all settings are being reset and most data is gone, according to iTWire.
The problem, can easily be reproduced when a user logs into the 'guest' account, either on purpose or by accident, and when they log back out of the account and back into their normal one, they find that their account has been fully reset with all data wiped and lost - the account is like a brand new one. The home directory still exists under "/Users/username" but is completely empty.
Users are reporting that the data is unrecoverable and cannot be found anywhere on the hard drive, and the only way to restore it is if the user has been performing backups on a separate hard-drive. Apparently the problem has been present since a few days after launch, as the forum post dates back to 12th September, but as of yet, Apple has been silent.
It seems the only work around at this stage is to disable the Guest account, or at least disable it and then re-enabling it so that it's a native Snow Leopard account. Another suggestion is to create a new account and enforce parental controls, if you really need a temporary account.
It's not clear how many users are affected, but it seems like any user who had Leopard before the upgrade, and had the guest account enabled are affected and are at risk.
Luckily... I'm a Win 7 guy.
I have been hearing that Apple has switched from using AccuWeather to Weather.com (The Weather Channel) for the weather Dashboard widget in Snow Leopard. Is this true? Anyone with the WWDC build or the newer build. The fact that my iPod touch (weather.com / yahoo) weather app and OS X dashboard (AccuWeather) never match is kind of annoying.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI like many of you Mac users am very interested in Snow Leopard. I'm wondering however, if I decide to do a clean installation, will I be able to bring back all my files with Time Machine like you could do with Leopard? (I remember when I first connected my Time Machine HDD to my current computer it asked me if I wanted to restore my data) Also, will my Apps also be in restored onto Leopard? Or would it just be my files?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there anybody that has gone from Tiger to Snow Leopard and did this as an upgrade? Did all your music and pictures remain on your HD? Is it even possible to do it this way?
When I put my snow leopard disc in my computer, it has 1 option which says: Install Mac OSX and if I press that it says, press continue to restart your computer and installation will begin (or something like that). It's not clear to me if it's gonna erase my harddrive or not.
I know there are numerous posts already about whether to 'clean install' or upgrade to Snow Leopard, but I can't seem to find an answer to my question anywhere.
I have two computers that I've already upgraded to Snow Leopard - an iMac that's about a year old (with data on it that has been migrated between macs since Tiger) and a brand new MBP which is unblighted by any migrated data. The MBP seems much faster for the upgrade, but the iMac seems a little slower.
My instinct here is to erase my iMac hard drive and install Snow Leopard from scratch, which would presumably solve the sluggish performance issues.
My question is this: I have all my iMac data backed up on Time Machine. Is performing a clean install and then restoring my mac from Time Machine going to give me exactly the same problems as upgrading did? Or would it be better to selectively move data back to my iMac after a clean install?
If I need to do this the hard way (as I suspect) and selectively bring back my data to leave the junk behind, is there anything I can do before running a clean install to make this more painless?
I have a new box of snow leopard ready for UPGRADE from the last leopard, I want upgrade, my fear is that my data can be delete or something bad? maybe is a stupid question but I remember a box that say "make sure that your data is backup it" so...

I have been using a borrowed Macbook Pro (5.4) OS X 10.6.8 so that I could learn some of the differences between the Mac & the PC's that I am familiar with. Before returning the Macbook to it's owner I'd like to wipe out the information I've put onto it while I had it. Documents, passwords, history etc. I'd like to return the laptop as it was when I rec'd it. The person I've borrowed it from is quite familiar with Mac systems, and I'd like to be sure my data is securly removed.
The person I borrowed from has their user account on the computer locked, and of course I can't damage their files in any way. I do have athority to create a new account.
I'm not sure if there is more information you need so that you can help me, but this should get the ball rolling.
I want to move a single application (Reunion 9) and various files created with that application from my previous MacBook to this MacBook Air. Can I do this with Migration Assistant, or is there some other way of achieving it ?

I am considering making a w7 partition with bootcamp to use for gaming and game making, but am not sure how much data to put on it. I have a total of 250gb on my hard drive and 175.23 gb available. I'll still use my mac side for a lot of things so I want sufficient data on there. On the topic of hard drive expansions, I have many external drives so if I could use one of those to expand my hard drive I'd be willing to?
