OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How To Sync All 4 Devices
Feb 7, 2012
I have an imac, iphone4, ipad & macbook air.Is there a way for me to easily sync these devices so that they share my music, pages and word documents, emails and calenders etc?
I'm new in Mac, coming from UNIX/Linux systems, my problem is managing devices in Snowleopard OS. Recently I bought the HP ScanJet G4050. With a lot of difficulties I installed the software, because the manufacturer provided was useless, but finally I was able to get scans into adobe reader and also into the other software.
At work we got an electric break, and my MBP continued working but the scanjet didn't. So after this failure when I'm trying to scan something, the system reports "unable to start (scaner was not found)", nevertheless the scaner works in another equipment (in a Windows XP mini laptop, for example)
I'm looking for the way to do manual mount of the device, in similar way we do this in Unix/linux: " #>mount /device/somedevice /pathdirectory -options "
I have this really annoying and recurring problem; I never used mobileme but somehow the 'sync' functionality has been activated, its icon remains in the menubar. Â
At the most inconvenient moments the d--n thing will attempt to sync and give me (fault)messages, most recently it has been trying to sync my Google address-book with the one on my MacPro. How can I deactivate this?
Info: Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), '09/2.66GHz quad/12GB RAM
Do in need to update to OS Lion in order to be able to sync my iMac address book with my iPhone> I know cloud is suppose to do this automatically but new to it and not sure how to make this all work.
I plug in my devices in and receive power to them, but my computer won't recognize or sync them up. I've tried to use isync to find devices and it comes up blank. Both usb ports give power to devices, but I can't sync them up.
While I'm really glad that Notes sync between the iPhone/iPod touch and Mail.app, I wasn't aware that they could get mixed in with each other. See the attached screenshot.
Mountain Lion won't run on my Intel-graphics dual core white MacBook. Lion should run, but I've been disappointed with Lion and it is now end-of-life (mercifully short). So I've a perfectly fine and responsive Snow Leopard machine. Only problem -- when MobileMe dies in June Address Book on that device won't sync with our iPhone [1].Â
I know Apple doesn't allow 3rd parties to sync anything to iCloud. So there's no solution that way. One approach is to use a 3rd party app to sync Address Book on this machine with Address Book on another machine that in turn syncs with iCloud.Â
The easier approach is to go all Google; sync Address Book to Google, set the iPhone to use a Google Apps account. (Ironic that Apple's obsoleting a solid MacBook should drive us to Google.)Â [1] For various reasons the iPhone syncs to another machine with our family app/media library. So I can't sync Address Book via iTunes.

I have OS 10.7 (latest version) installed on a MacBook Pro, and iOS5 on my iPhone. I recently migrated to iCloud from MobileMe. Â However, my company still uses OS 10.6.8.Â
How can I get my Address Book on my work Mac, running OS 10.6.8 to sync with my iCloud account?Â
How do I set up the iCloud account in my address book? Where is the Contacts server?Â
And please don't tell me to upgrade to 10.7. That's not an option.
i have a folder i would like to sync between my windows 7 virtual machine desktop and my mac desktop. i am imagining that what i add to one and/or delete from one would be added to or deleted from the other. same for organizing the files and folders.Â
My Macbook Pro was purchased in November 2010. Can't load Snow Leopard Have an iPhone 4s Want to sync calendar on my two devices.iCloud not a choice in my system preferences Can I do this with MobileMe?
My purpose is to summarize what I can collect as information on the best way to keep macs and devices in sync.
First, I will focus on the main goal I want to achieve: keep iCal and Address Book in sync for a macbook and a mac mini. The sync can occur via internet (nice-to-have) or simply when they are on the same network (minimum requirement).
Later below are also separately listed info on files/folder sync.
The option I have found so far:
For Address Book and iCal:
1) Mac OS X native option Mac OS X Snow Leopard offers the possibility to keep iCal and Address Book in sync, via a Google Account or a Yahoo Account.
FREE requires Google account also keep Google Contacts and Calendar in sync But no contacts picture sync, limited phone number (3 or 4 per contact)
2) Mobile Me iCal, Address Book, ... + storage, web hosting, complete integration with Mac OS X... 79$ / year
3) Others...
Spanning Sync 3 http://spanningsync.com/ Almost as option 1) as it requires a Google Account.
BusySync
Fruux [url] Only between computers. But they don't need to be ON at the same time (using fruux cloud). FREE BETA also sync bookmarks and notes. 10.5 and upper.
For files/folder sync:
1) Mobile Me iDisk
2) Dropbox and analog, whether they are webbased on full applications Dropbox [url] Chronosync Amazon S3 Microsoft Live Mesh [url] [url] [url] [url]
3) Other solutions, more manual... [url] rSync Part of OS X already. You may need to update it depending on the task, but if you can figure it out, here it is: rSync
What am I using? I am now trying Fruux. Free and doing exactly what I needed: sync 2 macs for address book and calendar. Not less, and a little more. More after a few days of use!
After installing snow leopard I've had constant issues with mobileme, first with data conflicts, after I choose which data I think is correct (I usually guess) it then (sometimes after several minutes) constantly props me for a password. It's constantly saying this:
It says this WHILE LOGGED IN, I've logged out a million times and logged in, the password is correct. After I log out and try to log back in, it also gives me this error.
Is there a command to force time sync on Snow Leopard machines? I have lots machine which are joined to windows domain controller using third party utility (AdmitMac by Thursby). Even though under Day & Time system preference, I have set the machine to sync to our server but machine are still not correcting the time.Â
I have tried following methods to force the machines to sync: I have manually selected the machine to sych with Apple but that does not change the time at all (even after couple of reboots)Changing the date and time to something completely different (year, month and day) then rebooted machine then force it back to our server but that does not change machine time either.Only thing which has worked so far is that I have manually adjusted that time to match the next working machine. All of this has caused me lot of trouble in Mac labs because machine will not allow anyone to login and I have remove it from the domain and then re-join back.
I have put contacts in my address book and it's not being sync to my other devices or the iCloud. I tried to uncheck the addressbook in icould on my mac and then rebooted and checked it again. Still won't sync.
I use iMessage on my iMac, iPhone and iPad. I am signed into iMessage using the same Apple ID on all three devices. I also have the same phone numbers and email addresses activated within iMessage on each device.Â
When I send or receive messages, iMessage syncs the messages among the three devices. All good so far. But if I delete a conversation on one device, the deletion does not sync to the other two devices. So I have to manually delete the conversation from the other two devices. How to sync conversations within iMessage across devices?Â
Since 11.2 and 11.2.2 came onto the scene my podcast adds another of each episode to my iDevices on every sync. Only the unwatched/unlistened to episodes. Â
Example. I have 30 unwatched podcast, I sync, I now have all 30 on my iphone. When I sync again. I still have 30 unwatched, but now my iDevice in the sidebar shows 60 podcast. Adds another 30 every sync. Â
Fortunately as best as I can tell, It is not physically duplicated the file or the title entry on the iDevice. I don't see my data bar graph at the bottom grow either. Â
iTunes Library is served from a 12TB unRaid server on 1Gb network. Worked fine until 11.2. Â
Phone 5 and 5s - 7.1.1 iPad Air - 7.1.1 Mac Mini 2.3 - i7 - 8GB - 10.9.3 MacBook Pro Late '13 - 2.4 i5 - 8GB - 10.9.3 MacBook Air Late '11 - 10.9.3 iTunes - 11.2.2 (3)
iOS 8.1.2 no longer allows me to sync any of my devices to iTunes 120.0.1 by WiFi, although wired sync still seems to work. I have tried all the usual tricks, such as restarting device, without success. How to restore wireless syncing?
Ever since I upgraded to snow leopard, address book wont sync with Quickbooks.I reistalled QB, but still wont work, even though QB is set to sync addresses?
How do I sync a Google Calendar subscription on my iMac with iCloud Calendar and my associated iOS devices? I subscribe to my google calendar on my iMac (because my University forces me to use google calendar) but cannot see the events on my iCloud account, MacBook or iPhone4.
