ICloud :: Continue To Sync Manually On Snow Leopard?
May 5, 2012
Bear with me on the obviousness of this question to some people:
Can I join iCloud with my iPhone4S but continue to Sync manually to Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro ( bought in 2010)?

Mountain Lion won't run on my Intel-graphics dual core white MacBook. Lion should run, but I've been disappointed with Lion and it is now end-of-life (mercifully short). So I've a perfectly fine and responsive Snow Leopard machine. Only problem -- when MobileMe dies in June Address Book on that device won't sync with our iPhone [1].Â
I know Apple doesn't allow 3rd parties to sync anything to iCloud. So there's no solution that way. One approach is to use a 3rd party app to sync Address Book on this machine with Address Book on another machine that in turn syncs with iCloud.Â
The easier approach is to go all Google; sync Address Book to Google, set the iPhone to use a Google Apps account. (Ironic that Apple's obsoleting a solid MacBook should drive us to Google.)Â [1] For various reasons the iPhone syncs to another machine with our family app/media library. So I can't sync Address Book via iTunes.

I have OS 10.7 (latest version) installed on a MacBook Pro, and iOS5 on my iPhone. I recently migrated to iCloud from MobileMe. Â However, my company still uses OS 10.6.8.Â
How can I get my Address Book on my work Mac, running OS 10.6.8 to sync with my iCloud account?Â
How do I set up the iCloud account in my address book? Where is the Contacts server?Â
And please don't tell me to upgrade to 10.7. That's not an option.

I wasn't able to move the data from my old MacBook to my new MacBook running Lion, because I was using FileVault on the old system, and the Migration Assistant doesn't support home directories with FileVault enabled.Â
I've managed to migrate everything without issue -- Music, Photos, Movies -- all worked great. However, when I try to start Mail under Lion, I get prompted to reconfigure Mail. I've copied the ~/Library/Mail folder and the Preferences file (com.apple.mail.plist) to the new laptop (via SFTP) but Mail won't pick up from where it left off.Â

I have three main apple products I need to sync.
Macbook Pro
iPhone
Mac Tower (Pre Intel) running os 10.5.8
The macbook pro and the phone seem to be all hooked up nicely through icloud now, so no problems there. However I run an old tower which I would love to keep in sync with everything else. The email still works though icloud, it appears. iCal and Address Book do not seem to sync up anymore, and I can't find a resolution anywhere.

I have this really annoying and recurring problem; I never used mobileme but somehow the 'sync' functionality has been activated, its icon remains in the menubar. Â
At the most inconvenient moments the d--n thing will attempt to sync and give me (fault)messages, most recently it has been trying to sync my Google address-book with the one on my MacPro. How can I deactivate this?

Setting up 10.6.8 Snow Leopard is not supported by Apple's iCloud. Setting up iCloud mail is at will.  iCloud: Supported system requirements:Summary--This article explains the minimum system requirements for using iCloud. To create a free iCloud account, you must have either an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or a Mac with OS X Lion 10.7.2. To set up iCloud mail on Snow Leopard 10.6.8, you can do the following: Backup your email messages.
MobileMe, Mail: Copying MobileMe or IMAP email messages to your hard diskSummary--In Mail in Mac OS X, you can save copies of MobileMe mail messages to a local disk, for example if you want to create "backups" of MobileMe messages you have received. (This article also applies to any IMAP email account in which message caching is turned off.) Remove you previous MobileMe account. (after making sure anything important is backed up).  Open the Mail application (On the desktop. Looks like a Stamp w/Eagle.)Click on the name "Mail" from the top menu bar and go to Preference>Accounts> Click on your MobileMe account and then the minus ( ) sign to delete it.Â
Then click the plus ( ) sign: 1) In the Add Account pane, enter in the full iCloud email address and password. 2) DONOT click 'Create' or it will try to automatically set up the account. Hold down Option(on the keyboard) and the 'Create' button will switch to 'Continue'. Click Continue. 3) For Account Type, change the drop down menu to IMAP. 4) Change the Incoming Mail server to imap.mail.me.com. 5) Enter the full email address for User Name.  6) Hold down Option again and the 'Create' button will switch to 'Continue'. Click Continue 7) Check the box to use SSL and make sure Authentication is set to Password 8) Hold down Option again and the 'Create' button will switch to 'Continue'. Click Continue 9) Change the Outgoing Mail server to smtp.mail.me.com 10) Make sure the 'Use Authentication' box is checked.  11) Enter the full email address for User Name and then enter the password. 12) Hold down Option again and the 'Create' button will switch to 'Continue'. Click Continue 13) Check the box to use SSL and make sure Authentication is set to Password. 14) Click Create and then Click Create again on the final pane. 15) Done If there is every an issue. You can remove the account and set the iCloud Email address up in Mac mail once more using the steps above?

After installing snow leopard I've had constant issues with mobileme, first with data conflicts, after I choose which data I think is correct (I usually guess) it then (sometimes after several minutes) constantly props me for a password. It's constantly saying this:
It says this WHILE LOGGED IN, I've logged out a million times and logged in, the password is correct. After I log out and try to log back in, it also gives me this error.

Is there a command to force time sync on Snow Leopard machines? I have lots machine which are joined to windows domain controller using third party utility (AdmitMac by Thursby). Even though under Day & Time system preference, I have set the machine to sync to our server but machine are still not correcting the time.Â
I have tried following methods to force the machines to sync: I have manually selected the machine to sych with Apple but that does not change the time at all (even after couple of reboots)Changing the date and time to something completely different (year, month and day) then rebooted machine then force it back to our server but that does not change machine time either.Only thing which has worked so far is that I have manually adjusted that time to match the next working machine. All of this has caused me lot of trouble in Mac labs because machine will not allow anyone to login and I have remove it from the domain and then re-join back.
