OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Update ITunes On Mac Book From V8 To V10?
May 5, 2012
I've tried to update iTunes on my mac book from v8 to v10? When opening iTunes I get a msg "Quicktime v7.5.5 needed" (I currently have v7.4.1). I've used the Software updater & downloaded from the apple site, both look like being successful but are unsuccessful. I am still unable to open itunes. What else can I do? I have macbook with os 10.5.8, not sure if its a snow leopard, leopard or tiger.

After updating to iTunes 10.6 I can no longer open up Mail, iPhoto, Garage Band, none of my contacts display in Address Book. It is like this new update has broken all the internal links to my libraries. I have an older MacBook running Snow Leopard.Â

I ran software update which gave me an error and asked me to restart. I hit "ok" and when the computer tries to boot, it gets to the load screen which in addition to the normal "spinner" now has a loading progress bar. Every time it gets roughly 25% through the progress bar and then simply shuts off.I tried zapping the PRAM and have tried starting into safe mode but neither work.

If I upgrade Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (on a 2009 MacBook 5.2), is the update limited to OS X or can I also expect to see upgrades to free apps like Address Book, Mail and iCal? If the free apps do not change to match the latest versions available, can I expect updates to the free apps soon?

If I create a smart playlist in itunes and deselect live updating then how exactly does the smart playlist load up?
The reason I ask is that started setting up Smart Playlists for all of the artists on my computer and they're all set to live update which is consequently slowing down my itunes. I realize that I may not necessarily need that. My question is though...how exactly would I go about manually updating a smart playlist that has live updating turned off?

I just bought my MacBook Pro and installed the updates... however, when I try to update my iTunes (since it says version 10.6.3 is available) but when it's almost done I get a message stating it can't be installed because the "update cannot be verified". How do I upgrade my MacBook to the latest iTunes?

Interesting... at the same time as Magic mouse comes into stock (well, in UK Apple stores, anyhow), Apple release the "Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0 for Leopard" & "Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0 for Snow Leopard".
Here are direct links to the installer disk images, to save you time - even if you don't yet have a Magic mouse, you can install the software now to save time later:

I also found it interesting, how the mouse icon has changed into a Magic mouse in System Preferences:

Some users of Apple's Intel-based portables are reporting that their keyboards are periodically seizing up during use, especially after upgrading to Mac OS X Leopard.
Numerous posts in Apple's support forums for the MacBook and MacBook Pro, as well as AppleInsider's own forum, attest to the glitch. By most indications, the flaw effectively shuts down the keyboard at unpredictable intervals until either resolved on its own or else by restarting or waking the system. The trackpad and external keyboards continue to function normally, according to the claims.
More drastic steps such as resetting the PRAM on the system fail to return the keyboard to life, system owners say. The flaw also appears to plague Intel-based portables regardless of their age, as reports demonstrate the lockups occurring with original MacBooks from mid-2006, MacBook Pros, as well as the new MacBooks introduced early this month .
Third-party software is also being dismissed as the culprit by owners of the Mac notebooks, as systems with different combinations of third-party software and even untouched installations reportedly suffer from the problem.
In nearly all cases, the root cause appears to be Mac OS X Leopard, whether preloaded with a new system or installed afterwards on an existing computer. The freezes may not begin immediately, but sometimes pick up in frequency over time and are not affected by the 10.5.1 software patch or similar updates.
"This problem has only occurred with Leopard," one user at Apple's forum says. "Everything has been fine for the last 6 months on Tiger."
No readily identifiable fixes or specific errors have been found, although some report success by forcing Finder to quit and relaunch. One user also notes that his internal keyboard disappears from the USB device list of Apple's System Profiler utility when unresponsive.
Apple is not known to have characterized the random freezing as a widespread issue and is so far attributing the flaw to hardware, offering to replace keyboards for at least some users who contact technical support. And to date, those customers aware of the apparent connection have been unable to persuade the Mac maker's representatives that a common link exists.
"I took my MacBook into the Apple Store today," notes one MacBook owner. "I told [Apple's Geniuses] about this thread and they basically dismissed the idea that it could have something to do with Leopard. [...] I think it's strange that they don't even want to listen to any ideas."[ View this article at [URL]

My son has a MacBook with Snow Leopard. We bought a new Epson Wirelss all in one printer. It is working fine on by desk pc. With the Mac, I had to download the drivers for SL from Epson. Did that. At the add printer screen, the Epson never shows up. I have uninstalled, and reinstalled at least 10 times. Twice, the name of the Epson flashed briefly onto the add printer screen and then disappeared. Any suggestions?

Snow Leopard 10.6. Address Book SELECTIVELY allows deletion of a multiple contact entry. The updating of the contact database, as as function of the installation of Snow Leopard, produces/creates/brings to your attention, multiples of some contacts that did not exist prior to the upgrade. Most duplicates or triplicates you cannot delete. Some will allow you to delete one but not the other. You can delete them using MobileMe or on the iPhone but not by using the Address Book.

Last night I decided to update to iTunes 9.1.1, via the software update prompt. It prompted me to restart my computer (laptop, Windows Vista). I proceeded to do so, but it got hung up in the log off screen for over 15 minutes. I turned off the computer and came back into the desktop. Tried to load iTunes, but it wouldn't load anymore. Tried to reinstall the software update, but now it's searching for a .msi file that I have no idea about? Anyone have any input as how I can resolve this, and have I lost all of my music in iTunes at this point?
