OS X V10.4 :: How To Restore Sidebar Folder

Mar 28, 2012

I dragged my "documents" folder out of the sidebar by mistake. I need to restore it. Where did it go? Searches for it come up empty. Too valuable to loose!

OS X :: Accidentally Deleted Home Folder From Sidebar

Jul 16, 2010

I was trying to add my home folder to my dock from dragging it from the finder sidebar to the dock, but it wasnt draggable. It did drag, but it wouldnt stay in the dock, when I let go of the drag, it vanished in a puff of smoke. How do I get it back in the sidebar, it was pretty helpful over there. Just to be clear I'm talking about when I open a new finder window, I see a few folders under 'Places' --> Desktop, Applications, Documents and My name which is the home folder. Now all I see is Desktop, Applications, and documents. How do I get it back if possible, and when I do how do I put it on the dock? Next to apps and downloads folder? Nevermind I found out how to add it. CMD+, for finder prefs, and then sidebar. I still have no idea how to put the home folder on the dock now.

OS X Yosemite :: Keep Folder From Network As Favorite In Finder Sidebar

Dec 8, 2014

Is it possible to keep a folder from a network as a favorite in the Finder Sidebar, even after the networked computer has been restarted? In the course of the week, the folders I place in my favorites remain (we keep our computers on all week), but we shut down on the weekends, so come Monday morning, all of the networked folders are absent from the sidebar. I'm attempting a work-around by creating folders in my user/Home that then have aliases of the respective folders, then placing that in the sidebar, but I'd love to avoid this work-around.

I'm on a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac, but the computer I'm trying to remain linked/favorited to is a 2.8 GHz Quad Core tower (both running Yosemite).

MacBook Pro :: Pictures Folder Deleted / Moved From Favorites Sidebar In Finder

Nov 30, 2014

I accidentally moved "My Pictures" folder from the My Favorites sidebar in Finder, and I can no longer find the folder. I've searched "all my files" for a My Pictures folder and nothing has come up, not even in the trash (that I haven't yet emptied). I am wondering if there is anyway of getting this folder back, as I had several pictures and folders organized within that My Pictures folder. All of my pictures are somewhere still on my computer but even they are hard to locate now without them being in any folder. Would be difficult to have to re-organize every single thing that was in that folder.

OS X Technologies :: Adding Folder Alias To Finder Sidebar In Lion With Apple-script?

Jun 11, 2012

I am creating 2 AppleScripts to automate mounting Windows shared drives on Lion Macbook Airs.  The first creates an alias on the user's desktop to the user's shared drive.  This is functional and doing what I want it to do. The 2nd script attempts to create a favorite to the alias in Finder's sidebar.  Unfortunately, I can't seem to get this script to work.

I am attempting to create an alias on a user's desktop to a folder in a Windows network share. Here is my applescript: set user_name to (short user name of (system info))tell application "Finder" activate set myFolder to ((home as text) & "Desktop:" & user_name)select myFolder tell application "System Events"  keystroke "t" using command down end tellend tell The script runs, Finder opens to the user's folder, but nothing is added to the side.

OS X :: How To Restore My Documents Folder

Jul 23, 2010

The other day, I was using a disk inventory program to delete some of my unwanted files and folders, and I accidentally deleted my Documents folder. It's now in the Trash. How do I restore it? I tried just dragging the folder back to the sidebar, but it doesn't show up the same. The icon in the sidebar shows as a regular folder instead of the pencil and paper that it originally had. Also, if I right-click it and click "Open Enclosing Folder," the Trash opens again, indicating that it's still in the Trash.

How can I restore my Documents folder/alias to its original state?

So, the new and nice road sign of a folder cannot be replaced from another icon, even if it is the default one.

OS X :: Deleted Private Folder - Unable To Restore?

Aug 24, 2008

I deleted my /Private folder. I'm not sure how I was able to but I think I deleted some random little files in my Mac HD before that and I do recall entering my password (the administrative / master password) to authorize the deletion. So that's how I got into this situation. I'd just also like to say that I do not have my information backed up.

What I Have Tried:
- Rebooting in Single-User mode following some code I found off a forum for someone who had only deleted their /var folder- Failed!
- Rebooting in SU mode following code off Apple Support website- Failed!
- Called 1-800-MY-APPLE - was told I could only reinstall everything- Failed!
- Went into the Genius Bar to talk to a Genius. He tried to start up remotely with an External HD- Failed!
- Was told by the Genius to take a firewire cable and hook up my computer to another Mac and start in Target Disk mode, move all my data onto there (or an external HD attached to computer 2) and then reinstall - Failed! (Reason: The second computer could not detect my computer? Indexing was taking forever but I couldn't stop Spotlight from indexing because I could not find it... My disk / the icon does not appear on the desktop. BUT, it was detected through Time Machine.)

ITunes For Mac :: How To Restore Library To Music Folder

Dec 4, 2014

I've just had to do a complete restore of my iMac.  It was acting very oddly, so I chose to restore the Applications and the System Settings manually, especially as a full restore did not fix the problem.

In the process, I did not restore my Music folder and, to boot, the Time Machine backup files seem to have gone invisible to Time Machine as I cannot see them in Time Machine.  I can, however, see them in the finder and have been able to restore most everything from the backups.  I have been able to bring the iTunes file onto the desktop, but want to put it in the Music folder shown in the panel on the LHS of the Finder window.  The system will not permit me to put it there, or am I missing something?  iTunes runs just fine from the file, but I'd like it to be in the right place, and not on my Desktop.  This is all with the latest Yosemite.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Cannot Restore A Mail Folder In Library

May 25, 2012

When I try to restore the mail folder I get a permission error. Yet in info I have read, write permission for myself. I could not restore even a file in the library "mail folder. It maybe I cannot restore any file or folder because of permission problems.  I ran disk utility and di a repair permissions. I even tried to do the I tunes folder. Same denial, do not have permission.

I started with a problem with my mailboxes I had in a import folder in mail. They did not list alpha and other querks.  Read on a help page that you need to rebuild mailbox.  The import mailbox was grayed out and I cannot rebuild.  Also, I cannot delete or change any of the mailboxes inside the import mailbox.

Back to the rebuild, the site said to trash the envelope index file.  I di and know I cannot read any messages stored in the folders that were in the import folder. This is where I decided maybe I could use time machine and get a copy of the old envelope index and replace it.  No dice"not sufficient permissions. What a mess cannot read saved messages unless I go to library and find them.
