OS X :: Can't Restore Previous Folder Icons

Mar 22, 2009

Firstly, I apologize for my English. I downloaded some icons for my folders and hopefully I replaced the boring ones with new! However, when I try to change an icon that I just pasted, I cannot. So, the new and nice road sign of a folder cannot be replaced from another icon, even if it is the default one.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Finder Sidebar Document Icons Change To Folder Icons?

Mar 20, 2012

I place document icons in my finder sidebar, and sometime later they change to folder icons. Does not matter which application they come from, it seems to happen to them all, but they are still linked to the correct documents.

OS X :: Restore A Previous Point Release?

Nov 15, 2010

Is it possible to restore a previous point release? If yes, how easy will it be and how to do the restore? My MBP is on 10.6.4 now, and I'd like to try 10.6.5 in the next few days. If it doesn't work well with some of my apps, I'd like to restore.

OS X :: Changing Dock Background - Folder Icons And App Icons?

May 1, 2010

First off, I've searched the forums, but can't find an answer -- sorry if I missed something.Just got a new machine running 10.6.3 -- ugh, the dock and folders and so on look like clunky Windows junk :-(I miss my simple, elegant 10.4.11 dock ...I don't want to add novelty icons or that kind of thing, I just want a borderless dock that's semi-transparent or clear. And apparently all the apps out there to change the dock background don't work with Snow Leopard.I know CandyBar can help me with the folder icons and app icons, but as far as I can tell, not the actual dock background.

OS X Mavericks :: How To Restore Deleted (Previous Recipient List)

Aug 29, 2014

I have my own, private, Macbook Air which is not used by my spouse. As a result, I have only configured my own e-mail accounts on this machine. It runs OSX 10.9.4.

We also have a family-used iPad, which is shared between multiple family members, including my spouse. It has multiple e-mail accounts configured, including mine and hers. None of us uses iCloud mail, just mail from external providers.

My wife is used to the auto-fill in Mail on the iPad : Any recipient from the past is used to autocomplete. As a result, she never built an address book since typing most of the names or first characters of her contacts resulted in completing the full e-mail address. The iPad does have an iCloud-based address book configured, which only contains my personal contacts. This iCloud account is also configured on my MBA.

During the past weeks I've put a lot of effort in cleaning up my Contacts, since they were swamped with outdated e-mail addresses. I also deleted the complete Previous Recipient list via Window/Previous Recipients, since outdated e-mail addresses were being suggested while they were removed out of my Contacts during clean up. I cleaned up the previous recipients list, assuming that applies only to the local Mail installation. But it does not.

Since the iCloud based contacts are shared between mail clients, the Previous Recipients list is as well, which was a nasty surprise. Apparently my wife can no longer experience any of her contacts being auto-completed on the iPad or other Macs in our house. This is a big issue (marital crisis) and I want to restore the previous recipients list. In the pre-iCloud days this was possible by restoring the correct file via Time Machine (which I use). But in the current iCloud days, the previous recipients list is, as far as I know, completely in the cloud. There is no (known) way for me to revert to a previous version.

How to restore the iCloud-based previous recipient list? can I restore a local copy that overwrites/syncs correctly with the cloud-based copy?

Applications :: Restore Stickies Database Back To Previous Date?

Dec 2, 2009

At the beginning of November I opened my stickies and a song I had been working on was gone. I have had data recovery attempt to find the lost stickie, but 1) it was not saved as a text file, 2) it is no longer in the stickies database, and 3) I do not currently have time machine. Basically, everyone told me I was screwed except the top of the line place in California who wants to charge me $1500 to just attempt to get it back, with no gurantee. Is there anyway I can recover a deleted stickie? Or is there anyway to restore the stickies database/my computer back to a date when I know the stickie there?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Restore Previous Time Machine Backup To New MBP With Retina Display

Jun 15, 2012

I recently bought a new MacBook Pro with Retina Display, and when asked to restore files from Time Machine during Setup Assistant, I receive the error "You can't restore this backup because it was created by a different model of mac." The machine that I had was a 2011 MacBook Pro 15" and I regularly backed up with Time Capsule using Time Machine.

The most important thing for me is to transfer over all of my applications, my iPhoto and iTunes libraries, everything in my keychain, and all of my documents. The reason I'd prefer not to use Migration Assistant is because I don't want to do any of that manually, I'm just trying to find a simple solution that will restore to a previous snapshot with quick, easy steps.

After installing Lion, I can no longer move program icons from my applications folder to a sub folder. When I do, it makes a copy and leave the original in the applications folder. When I then try to delete the icon in the applications folder it tells me it's required by the OS and won't let me delete. I'm forced to keep certan applications such as Time Machine and Stickies in the application folder.

OS X :: Mac Crashed Installed Again - Now Have Previous System Folder

Mar 30, 2009

I was ripping a DVD last night and also surfing web and a couple other things all at same time (have 4gb memory) and the macbook crashed and was just stuck. It stayed that way for a long time, so I held down the power button and turned it off. After that, I couldn't get it to book back up. It would just stay stuck at the grey screen with the spinning wheel.

So I got out my original DVD disk and reinstalled. I do not remember how it worded it, but I did the option where it kept my previous system information. I now have Leopard installed again and I have a folder called "previous system" and I can view my old desktop files, applications, etc.

It put a folder named "Previous Systems" on the HD and its taking up 7.72 GB. I'm back up again and up to date. Everything seems to be working. I know I screwed up before so I'm asking here before I delete too much again.

OS X :: Delete Previous System Folder To Avoid Hang Ups?

Sep 13, 2010

What are the reasons and solutions for the slow running of a Mac OS X System? I did an archive and reinstall a while ago to solve a drag and drop problem but since then the systems sometimes gives me what I have learn is referred to as the spinning wheel of death. I have also read somewhere else that there is a folder named the Previous Systems folder which is supposed to be where everything from the previous system (before the archive and reinstall) is stored. It was advised that this folder be thrashed to get a faster system and avoid hangs but I am a bit reluctant to touch anything that may cause further problems.

OS X :: Hard Drive Full - Safe To Delete Previous System Folder

Oct 5, 2009

I recently check my 150 GB hard drive and noticed that I only have 10 GTB left. While going through my files to check what I don't need or want, I noticed that I have a folder called Previous Systems. Inside this folder are two other folders with dates for names. Each folder has approximately 20 GB for a total of 40 GB. Can I simply toss this folder? It does not seem to do anything. The folder must have been created from a backup some time ago. I don't recall doing that.

OS X :: How To Restore Icons Back To Defaults

Nov 26, 2010

I recently changed the dock and most of the icons to custom ones and I would like to restore them all back to default. But since I no longer have the originals, I can't just copy paste each and everyone back. So how would I do this? I tried installing the combo updater hoping it would overwrite it all, but no go. I just found you can get info on an icon and then press delete or cmd+X, but it doesn't work on Mail. It erases the icon and gives me the generic "no icon" icon (white paper with writing utensils).

OS X :: Wants To Change Folder[ Icons In Leopard

Mar 3, 2008

I am trying to change some folder icons in Leopard.

According the Helpfile, you can just past an image once you open the icon information window and click on the folder image at the top of the info window.

I have tried this and the 'paste' function is always greyed out in the edit menu.

Also, if I drag 'n' drop an image onto the folder image it does change, but the preview does not change.

Does anyone know if there are certain permissions/preferences you have to change before you are able to change icons in leopard?

ps: sorry if this question has been asked before, I searched the forums for 10 mins and couldnt find anything similar.

Thanks
Ryan

OS X :: Looking For Custom Folder Icons In Dock?

Jul 27, 2009

I am customizing my brand new iMac 24". Just switching from M$! I changed the default icon of my folder and I put it on the Dock. Everything fine, but the dock seems to adopt the icon of what it is INSIDE the folder, not the custom icon of the containing folder.

I wonder if I can force Dock to respect the custom icon of the folder (when there are several documents inside the folder, Dock uses the standard icon - not the new, custom one).
