IMac :: Developer Folder Missing?

Jun 16, 2009

I just installed the Java update this morning and when I opened up my Macintosh HD later on in the afternoon I only had 5 folders when there used to be 6. When I went through time machine to figure out what the missing folder is it ended up being the Developer folder. I never use that folder, but I would still like to have all my folders intact.

Does anyone know if the Java update caused the Developer folder to go missing? If that folder is missing who knows what other app's or folders I have missing. I was able to restore of course from time machine, but I'm just curious on why it went missing in the first place. Does anyone have any clues/ideas?

MacBook Air :: Air For A Web Developer?

Apr 18, 2008

this year I decided to go for a Mac, and almost decided where to start: Im considering to get the Air. But first I must be sure that it will fit my needs. I work as a web developer, for years I have been working with PHP, ASP and the .NET framework. but recently Im starting to get used to Rails, and I heard that Mac is the perfect platform for it. So, I want to know if there are other developers that use the Air too, And what the tools you are using.

Im not the kind of road warrior, but it would be nice if I can reduce the actual 6.6 pounds of my 15" compaq laptop (my spine will thank)

For me the MB Pro is still too big and heavy, and the Macbook have a poor display compared to the Air. So i think the Air is perfect for me. What you guys think about it?

OS X :: How To Restore My Documents Folder

Jul 23, 2010

The other day, I was using a disk inventory program to delete some of my unwanted files and folders, and I accidentally deleted my Documents folder. It's now in the Trash. How do I restore it? I tried just dragging the folder back to the sidebar, but it doesn't show up the same. The icon in the sidebar shows as a regular folder instead of the pencil and paper that it originally had. Also, if I right-click it and click "Open Enclosing Folder," the Trash opens again, indicating that it's still in the Trash.

How can I restore my Documents folder/alias to its original state?

OS X :: Can't Restore Previous Folder Icons

Firstly, I apologize for my English. I downloaded some icons for my folders and hopefully I replaced the boring ones with new! However, when I try to change an icon that I just pasted, I cannot. So, the new and nice road sign of a folder cannot be replaced from another icon, even if it is the default one.

Mac Pro :: Using OpenCL - On Researcher/developer View

Jun 8, 2009

1) from wwdc latest information, Mac pro user will have only 3 Apple official option OpenCL that is : GeForce 8800 GT, GeForce GT 120 and Radeon 4870

2) but I think GTX285 and FX4800 will support too. (At least final ver. of Snow leopard)

3) Assume you want many core the best selection from 1) & 2) is ATI Radeon 4870 because it has 800 stream processor. GTX 285 have 240

4) Assume you want memory speed the best selection from 1) & 2) is ATI Radeon 4870 again because it GDDR5 (but i can't confidentally confirm it when 4870 have lower memory speed and lower memory bandwidth)

I've been trying to find a download of the Developement Tools for Jaguar on the Apple site and have failed.I know that it was released as a CD version with the installation CD set for Jaguar. I know that it was also available from Apple as a download. I also know that starting with Panther it was renamed Xcode. However the Developers download site does not seem to have any software covering the years 1998 to 2006. Does the download I want still exist on Apple's site - but I have not stumbled on the right place to go ?

OS X :: Deleted Private Folder - Unable To Restore?

Aug 24, 2008

I deleted my /Private folder. I'm not sure how I was able to but I think I deleted some random little files in my Mac HD before that and I do recall entering my password (the administrative / master password) to authorize the deletion. So that's how I got into this situation. I'd just also like to say that I do not have my information backed up.

What I Have Tried:
- Rebooting in Single-User mode following some code I found off a forum for someone who had only deleted their /var folder- Failed!
- Rebooting in SU mode following code off Apple Support website- Failed!
- Called 1-800-MY-APPLE - was told I could only reinstall everything- Failed!
- Went into the Genius Bar to talk to a Genius. He tried to start up remotely with an External HD- Failed!
- Was told by the Genius to take a firewire cable and hook up my computer to another Mac and start in Target Disk mode, move all my data onto there (or an external HD attached to computer 2) and then reinstall - Failed! (Reason: The second computer could not detect my computer? Indexing was taking forever but I couldn't stop Spotlight from indexing because I could not find it... My disk / the icon does not appear on the desktop. BUT, it was detected through Time Machine.)

ITunes For Mac :: How To Restore Library To Music Folder

Dec 4, 2014

I've just had to do a complete restore of my iMac.  It was acting very oddly, so I chose to restore the Applications and the System Settings manually, especially as a full restore did not fix the problem.

In the process, I did not restore my Music folder and, to boot, the Time Machine backup files seem to have gone invisible to Time Machine as I cannot see them in Time Machine.  I can, however, see them in the finder and have been able to restore most everything from the backups.  I have been able to bring the iTunes file onto the desktop, but want to put it in the Music folder shown in the panel on the LHS of the Finder window.  The system will not permit me to put it there, or am I missing something?  iTunes runs just fine from the file, but I'd like it to be in the right place, and not on my Desktop.  This is all with the latest Yosemite.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Cannot Restore A Mail Folder In Library

May 25, 2012

When I try to restore the mail folder I get a permission error. Yet in info I have read, write permission for myself. I could not restore even a file in the library "mail folder. It maybe I cannot restore any file or folder because of permission problems.  I ran disk utility and di a repair permissions. I even tried to do the I tunes folder. Same denial, do not have permission.

I started with a problem with my mailboxes I had in a import folder in mail. They did not list alpha and other querks.  Read on a help page that you need to rebuild mailbox.  The import mailbox was grayed out and I cannot rebuild.  Also, I cannot delete or change any of the mailboxes inside the import mailbox.

Back to the rebuild, the site said to trash the envelope index file.  I di and know I cannot read any messages stored in the folders that were in the import folder. This is where I decided maybe I could use time machine and get a copy of the old envelope index and replace it.  No dice"not sufficient permissions. What a mess cannot read saved messages unless I go to library and find them.
