OS X :: Possible To Rename Home Folder?

Oct 30, 2010

I am having problems with my user account, and I need to start fresh with a new account. My plan is to create a new user account and transfer my documents and images (but not my preferences) from my current account to that one. However, once I've migrated the data, I'd like to rename the new home folder with the same name as the old one to prevent any broken links from applications that will be looking for files in my old account.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can Rename The Home Folder

Mar 14, 2012

I recently had my 15" MacBook Pro serviced because of a hard drive failure. It required that the operating system (OSX 10.7.3) be reinstalled. The reinstall was handled by the Best Buy Geek Squad store where I originally purchased the Mac. They named my home folder using only my first name in lower case letters. I would prefer my full name like my previous install.  DoI understand correctly that it is NOT possible to rename this folder? Would I have to reinstall Lion and wipe all the data to do this? Or is there a simple way to rename the folder.

OS X :: Accidentally Deleted Home Folder From Sidebar

Jul 16, 2010

I was trying to add my home folder to my dock from dragging it from the finder sidebar to the dock, but it wasnt draggable. It did drag, but it wouldnt stay in the dock, when I let go of the drag, it vanished in a puff of smoke. How do I get it back in the sidebar, it was pretty helpful over there. Just to be clear I'm talking about when I open a new finder window, I see a few folders under 'Places' --> Desktop, Applications, Documents and My name which is the home folder. Now all I see is Desktop, Applications, and documents. How do I get it back if possible, and when I do how do I put it on the dock? Next to apps and downloads folder? Nevermind I found out how to add it. CMD+, for finder prefs, and then sidebar. I still have no idea how to put the home folder on the dock now.

OS X Yosemite :: Keep Folder From Network As Favorite In Finder Sidebar

Dec 8, 2014

Is it possible to keep a folder from a network as a favorite in the Finder Sidebar, even after the networked computer has been restarted? In the course of the week, the folders I place in my favorites remain (we keep our computers on all week), but we shut down on the weekends, so come Monday morning, all of the networked folders are absent from the sidebar. I'm attempting a work-around by creating folders in my user/Home that then have aliases of the respective folders, then placing that in the sidebar, but I'd love to avoid this work-around.

I'm on a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac, but the computer I'm trying to remain linked/favorited to is a 2.8 GHz Quad Core tower (both running Yosemite).

Any terminal command or other solution to change this default behavior?

OS X Yosemite :: Sidebar Icons Displaying Incorrectly

Nov 30, 2014

I recently used LiteIcon to change how my folder icons look (because the oversaturated blue folders in Yosemite are ugly, in my opinion) and in the process, it messed up my sidebar icons.I did this one time before I updated LiteIcon and it did the exact same thing but I thought they would've fixed this since the update.

This is strange. All of a sudden I am unable to rename a Folder from untitled folder to anything. I can highlight it, but nothing happens when I try to type in a new title. I tried it on the Desktop and Finder. Any ideas? It would be prety hard to find anything if everything was in folders titled 'untitled'.

OS X Yosemite :: Clearing Duplicate Computers In Shared Finder Sidebar

Dec 8, 2014

In the Finder sidebar under shared computers, we seem to be getting duplicates.  Admin Mac (1), Admin Mac (2) (when it's the same computer).  How do I clear out this list so that we don't have 13 Admin Mac's on our list?

I have gone through and turned off sharing preferences restarted computers and turned Sharing preferences back on.  I now see the correct computer but can't get rid of the duplicates now.

OS X Technologies :: Using AppleScript To Rename Files By Folder Hierarchy

Mar 13, 2012

I have thousands of music projects with a somewhat fixed folder hierarchy and I'm trying to first rename and then extract (move) certain files from their original location.

Here is the most common example of the hierarchy: ProjectName/Info/Setups/fixed name file (either a pdf, txt or jpg)

My goal is to have these files renamed after their parent folders, all the way up to the Project Name and then have them moved to a set folder, out of this dull dictatorship I've created, so my files would end up with a name like this:  ProjectName - Info - Setups - fixed name file

OS X Mountain Lion :: How To Create Application Folder In Home Folder

Aug 29, 2014

I'm using MacBook Pro Early 2011 model with Mountain Lion (10.8.5).

I recently noticed that there was an application folder in my home folder (the folder with your username), but that application folder had been empty. I remember I used to be able to access to my applications from that folder, but not anymore.

Since the folder was empty, I deleted it before doing further research.

After deleting the empty application folder from the home folder, I looked up and some said the application folder in the home folder and the application folder in Macintosh HD are two different folders. I don't know what it means, but I would like to have an application folder with applications in my home folder. Is this possible? or should I just make an Alias folder and put it in my home folder?

OS X :: Home Folder Short Name Change Still Not Advisable - Nothing In Folder?

Apr 2, 2009

I know the Home Folder short name changing issue has been discussed already on here, and most people seem to advise either against it or to backup before proceeding. I just obtained my first MacBook Pro second hand, and it still has the previous owner's Home Folder and Short Name, even though he has deleted all his files from it, and there's only pretty much standard folders within it (Library, Applications), but nothing in them. I've been saving my own stuff elsewhere in another folder I created on the Mac HD drive. Is it fairly safe then to change his name over to my own following the steps on the Apple website, or would his home still be attached to certain important components? I'd rather not create a brand new account where I have to fiddle with settings again for everything, though I'm not sure if I may have to do that anyway. I'm using Leopard, by the way. The login he passed on at start-up still says administrator as a user name, though, not his shortname. Will that change also?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Access The Library Folder In The Home Folder?

Jun 9, 2012

It appears that the Library folder that is in the Home Folder (e.g./Users/Home/Liberary)has been made invisible in OS 10.7.x. However I have seen it because after converting samples Logic showed me the folder and its contents. I would very much like to move the samples from their present location in this folder on the startup disk to the EXS 24 samples folder  on the external RAID array that is dedicated to this purpose - - but I don't know how to make the Library folder visible.
