this seems like a really simple thing i want to do but i cant seem to figure it out. All i'm trying to do is put a shortcut of the trash can onto the desktop. I have my dock hidden and it can be a pain to try and make it appear to delete something. i searched spotlight for trash and there are no hits. i try to drag the trashcan from the dock and nothing happens. There has to be a solution???

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to print an Excel 2004 .xls spreadsheet file where I'm using to record attendance for the class I teach.I have my main Column A with Rows A-X and it shows up fine, I imagine because there is content in the boxes.
But I also have Columns B-L and rows A-X with nothing in their cells, but when I print it, they won't print.I need these blank because I'll check them off if the child in the first column attended the lesson. How do I make it so my many blank cells will print as well?
Since reinstalling my Lion, the Trash has been strange. I can't just drag stuff there without getting a dialogue box telling me it will be deleted immediately. That requires me to click my agreement. Same thing happens if I right-click my mouse and choose the Trash option. So my Trash basket stays empty, and I go through a two-step process with every file or program I want to be rid of.

For the last couple of days, I haven't been able to drag any files over from my Stacks to the Trash; nothing happens. I'm forced to open the folder and drag it over from there or Apple+Delete it. I *might* have accidentally deleted a file (I don't remember which) causing this to suddenly happen and haven't been able to figure out how to fix it. It's more of an annoyance than anything else.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn an attempt to delete duplicate files from my iTunes folder, I accidentally deleted the entire contents of the folder into the Trash. I have NOT emptied the trash. I can open the trash can and see all of my files there.
Here's the problem: I click on the files (one or multiple) and try to drag them to another location. They won't drag. I've tried several times.
I can't seem to drag any icons on or off of my dock. Once it worked breifly but after that it hasn't worked since.

I downloaded a beta test recently, now it's finished I have the folder sitting in my Applications folder, but it won't let me drag it out into the trash. I've logged in as an Administrator, changed my regular ID to have Admin status, none of it works. I've got the CCleaner app from the App Store, same issue. It tells me I need to be an Admin to uninstall files, but even when I log in as the Admin, it gives me the same message.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am a recent Mac convert and I just set up user profiles on my Mac Mini for my two kids. My son plays Pirates of the Caribbean online. I installed it on the Mac and when I opened the applications folder and tried to drag the icon into the doc it wouldn't drag and I got an error message saying I couldn't launch the application from there. I wasn't trying to start it from there, only drag it. There was no problem performing the same task with Safari. I also had no problem dragging the icon to the dock under my user profile (admin.)

I can't drag files out of stacks (Downloads or Application folders) or app icons off my dock. I reset my SMC when I rebooted and it worked but then I reboot the next day (today) and it won't work anymore. Do I really have to reset SMC every time I boot up? I recently downgraded from Yosemite because it is incomplete and full of bugs and now I have this issue.

So over the past few months I have noticed this small bug/glitch in iTunes... and it is very annoying.
I cannot drag songs from playlists into different order. iTunes just doesn't let me drag at all.
I have to quit iTunes, then restart it. It will work for one time, but as soon as I got back to "Library" and then try to go back and edit a playlist, I have to exit iTunes.
Any fix for this?
The Mac Support page says that, to uninstall non apple apps you drag it to the trash, but that does not work. Any other answers?

I've never really felt the need to delete apps from this interface, but there are a bunch showing up I do not recall installing. They are not listed in the Applications folder. I cannot drag them to the trash can, and no 'x' pops up in the corner when I get the icons wiggling. I found some command on some website for deleting things through terminal but I tried it and it did not work (some error about "too many options"). Again I repeat there is no 'x' on the app icons and there is no way to make it appear.

Recent upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion. All seems good apart from the ability to drag a URL from the address bar to the dock for commonly used sites. When I attempt to there is a space made available but the "spring / @" icon is invisible (or perhaps not even there ;o) ). Hover the mouse over the "invisible" icon and the title of URL shows but it is inactive. I can drag ivisible icon from dock and I do get the little smoke gif as per normal but can't see or get functionality from the space where the icon should be.

Deleted my whole itunes library. It's all still in the trash but there is no restore option and I can't drag the files. What do I do?
View 1 Replies View Relatedup until a few days ago...maybe after 9.0.3 update...on my macbook pro under snow leopard, im certain i could drag files from itunes library or a playlist into the trash.
if i drug the file from the library to the trash, you would here the trash can "eating sound" and it would be gone from the library (one step). if it was from a playlist, it would delete that file from the playlist but not from the library as expected. now, i cant do either. now i have to right click and delete the file/s and then click move to trash.
Has anybody had any experience with Dock items disappearing? I simply drag and drop the desired application I was to remain in the Dock, and within 10 seconds it just disappears from the Dock! I haven't un-installed the application. I did have Dock items selected to Sync in MobileMe, but I disabled that as a test. I've also tried right-clicking the application while it's open, and selecting the 'Keep in Dock' option, but same result. After about 10 seconds of closing the app, it disappears from the Dock. I've run Repair Disk Permissions, no effect. I found a similar thread on this forum, but it suggested basically wiping the Mac and starting again, which I don't really find as a solution!

Not sure if this is new with Safari 5 or has always been there.
The dock does not display the little spring icon when I drag URLS to the right side of the dock.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new MBP. I have a 1tb external drive with 250gb's of music. I have it attached to my mac via USB. I CANNOT GET ITUNES TO CREATE A NEW LIBRARY ON THE EXTERNAL DRIVE. I CANNOT DRAG AND DROP OR ADD FILE/FOLDER.
But get this, I hook it up to my old Dell and I can do whatever I want. I am friggin pissed that I spent all this money on Mac equip and can't get it going. You may have seen my other post where I posed my issue of: 1tb ethernet drive hooked to airport extreme. Above mentioned 1tb hooked up to back of it via usb. I am completely unable to copy, move, or add files using my mac. But guess what. my pc handles it easily and quickly.
I'm aware I can alter it for Firefox and Safari, but how do I point the 'downloads' folder on the dock to the new location? Or is it a simple matter of drag and drop from the new location onto the dock and remove the old one??
Didnt want to experiment in case its a 'special' folder.
I've been trying to change my docks theme for the past few days but have been unable. I've used Candybar, Dock Library etc. and none of them seem to work. I'm really annoyed because it used to work for me. Any suggestions on how I can remedy this problem?

the trash icon in the dock won't open and I can't restore some files that I mistakenly deleted.
