Jun 14, 2012I am a recent Mac convert and I just set up user profiles on my Mac Mini for my two kids. My son plays Pirates of the Caribbean online. I installed it on the Mac and when I opened the applications folder and tried to drag the icon into the doc it wouldn't drag and I got an error message saying I couldn't launch the application from there. I wasn't trying to start it from there, only drag it. There was no problem performing the same task with Safari. I also had no problem dragging the icon to the dock under my user profile (admin.)

Dec 2, 2014I can't drag files out of stacks (Downloads or Application folders) or app icons off my dock. I reset my SMC when I rebooted and it worked but then I reboot the next day (today) and it won't work anymore. Do I really have to reset SMC every time I boot up? I recently downgraded from Yosemite because it is incomplete and full of bugs and now I have this issue.

Safari :: Can't Drag Web Addresses From Address Bar To Dock
May 30, 2012Recent upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion. All seems good apart from the ability to drag a URL from the address bar to the dock for commonly used sites. When I attempt to there is a space made available but the "spring / @" icon is invisible (or perhaps not even there ;o) ). Hover the mouse over the "invisible" icon and the title of URL shows but it is inactive. I can drag ivisible icon from dock and I do get the little smoke gif as per normal but can't see or get functionality from the space where the icon should be.

OS X :: Dock Items Disappear When Drag And Drop Desired Application
Oct 5, 2009Has anybody had any experience with Dock items disappearing? I simply drag and drop the desired application I was to remain in the Dock, and within 10 seconds it just disappears from the Dock! I haven't un-installed the application. I did have Dock items selected to Sync in MobileMe, but I disabled that as a test. I've also tried right-clicking the application while it's open, and selecting the 'Keep in Dock' option, but same result. After about 10 seconds of closing the app, it disappears from the Dock. I've run Repair Disk Permissions, no effect. I found a similar thread on this forum, but it suggested basically wiping the Mac and starting again, which I don't really find as a solution!

Apr 24, 2009this seems like a really simple thing i want to do but i cant seem to figure it out. All i'm trying to do is put a shortcut of the trash can onto the desktop. I have my dock hidden and it can be a pain to try and make it appear to delete something. i searched spotlight for trash and there are no hits. i try to drag the trashcan from the dock and nothing happens. There has to be a solution???

Apr 12, 2012so recently i began noticing, I can't drag music, movies, etc files form ituens to my desktop if i just want a copy of them on the desktop.. I figured it just itunes bug that will fix it self on restart.. However then I noticed i can't drag downloaded files from safari's download tab on top right... Before i used to open a tab and drag files to the desktop form the tab, now same thing as in itunes.. Wont do it.. I can copy stuff on a finder level but it doesn't work from an app to a desktop/finder level.. Same thing with iphoto as well..

Apr 7, 2012have a new macbook pro.... the track pad is being weird ... i can't click and drag something, and i can't select anything on drop down menus. I can do these things no problem with my pen and tablet, but not with the track pad. this is inconvenient to say the least.

Apr 4, 2012Apple Support Communities On my MBP on Mac OS X Lion, I have problems when I am installing apps. When I drag the app from the dmg file to my Apps folder, and when I open it, the app just jumps up and down on the dock.
When I force quit it, it does not go away, so I have to use Activity Moniter to quit the dock and when I open the app then, it works fine. reasons and solutions for this problem?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Accidentally Pick Up And Drag Windows?
May 1, 2012Sometimes, when i click on a window's title bar, I accidentally pick it up and drag it away without any mouse button pressed. The window moves with the mouse until I click again and then OSX puts it down in a new location.
The weird thing is that I don't do anything different to when normally just clicking on a window. It just seems to happen every now and again. I've tried to deliberately reproduce this behaviour and I can't.
OSXmust think I've requested that I want to move the window, but I can't find any settings that would make this happen.
So Two Questions:
1. What would you do to make a window move without keeping a mouse button pressed whilst moving the mouse?
2. Why does OSX think I want to do this when all I do is click on a window to move the focus to it

Feb 3, 2012I have always used Address Book to store my email contact information in SL. When I wanted to send an email, I would drag and drop from Address Book to the "To:" field in Mail and it would add the contact information to Mail. I upgraded to Lion, and now when I try this, the address icon moves like it should, the little green circle with the + in it appears when I hover over the field, but when I release it does not add the address to Mail. The drag and drop does not work at all, but it looks like it should. I have searched all around but have not found any information about this.

May 4, 2012There are many things about Lion that irk the crap outta me, but this one is near the top. In ALL previous versions of Finder, one could, in list view, select a bunch of files by dragging over them, then, holding the command key down, add more non-contiguous files to the selection, again by dragging. If you try that in Lion, it starts dragging the whole lot of what you just selected to, usually, the root folder of the window you have open.
It appears that the only way to add extra non-contiguous files to a selection is to individually click each one of them.

In other words: If I download (I prefer to download onto my desktop rather than the download folder-window. I want to have control over ny desktop again (rather than the folder-window entitled "desktop".

May 29, 2012My Macbookpro was giving me a startup disk full message so I emptied out my photo library and itunes library to an external drive. By then I think the damage was done because I was still encountering the spinning color wheel all the time. On the advice of he Genius bar I reinstalled Lion. Feb 4, 2009So over the past few months I have noticed this small bug/glitch in iTunes... and it is very annoying.
I cannot drag songs from playlists into different order. iTunes just doesn't let me drag at all.
I have to quit iTunes, then restart it. It will work for one time, but as soon as I got back to "Library" and then try to go back and edit a playlist, I have to exit iTunes.
Any fix for this?

Mar 21, 2012I have two Virtual Machines running on my MacbookPro. One is Windows and the other is Ubuntu. The Windows 7 system is running perfectly well but the Ubuntu VM has got issues with dragging/dropping files from Mac to Ubuntu and vice versa.When I checked on the Parallel Desktop's forum, the only solution provided was that the Parallel Desktop's tool should be uninstalled and reinstalled; which I have done. But that didn't solve the problem. The Configuration menu "Virtual Machine" offered checkboxes for the (Copy & Paste) section, and I can confirm that both boxes for 'Share Mac Cipboard' and 'Preserve Text Formatting' are checked. That should have solved the copy/paste problem but didn't.
