My laptop starts getting really hot, especially under my hands. Is there a way to get OS X or something to turn the fan on when the laptop is at a lower temperature?

I have a macbook, and I replaced my Super Drive with a DualDrive that I got from powerbook medic. I decided to install Mac OS X on the Dual Drive and it installed correctly, but when ever I close my laptop screen, my hardrive turns off and I have to restart my computer. Is there any way that I can make it so that when I close my laptop screen it does not turn off my hardrive?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI noticed that iStat and Temperature Monitor report different temperatures for the same readings on my G5 Powermac Dual Processor System. For example as I am writing this Temperature Monitor is saying My CPU A is 46.8C and CPU B is 46.7C. In iStat it says CPU A is 55C and CPU B is 54C. Which is right!?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI apologists straight away if this have been covered recently, but i need to ask.I have MacBook with Intel Core Due Processor, 2 GB ram.What is the average temperature CPU temperature for standard usage ( I know that standard usage is very arbitrary, and by this I assume safari, iTunes and let say Pages to be the only major apps running ).I use iStat pro widget and according to it my CPU temperature is 55*C. Is this too high? Lately the fan has been turning on more recently almost without any apps running so I think that there might be some hardware problem. I ran HardwareTest it found nothing.
The macbook is 2 yrs old. Do i need to get it cleaned or is there something else I should be worrying about?
Last night I was watching some videos on my computer and noticed that the fans were spinning, because it was pretty hot. Next thing I know the laptop just shut off. I didn't think to much of it because I just assumed the battery dided and needed to be recharged.
Well now I go to restart my Laptop and it will not turn on even with the laptop plugged in. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Is my laptop dead, what happened?
About a month ago I bought one of the new Macbook Pros, a 15 inch i7 version with highres matte screen.This morning I went to turn on my computer and I thought I had turned it off last night, but it turns out that I hadn't, so when I hit the start button it woke up and then promptly shut off. I haven't been able to get it to turn on since. Absolutely nothing happens when I push the start button, whether I have it plugged into battery power or not.

For now i used superglue to put it back together, but if the computer gets hot i think the superglue will melt and cause problems.i have been told its impossible to find a replacement screen for this model cheap enough to make it worthy of repair.I am thinking of turning it into a desktop by getting an external monitor. Can I remove the LCD screen entirely off the macbook pro so it's just the body, and then connect it to a new monitor? this way i can still use the keyboard/mouse, and not have to worry about the existing screen and superglue, melting.

The battery was almost dead when I put it to sleep (2% charge), but after leaving the adapter plugged in all day yesterday the battery indicator on the bottom only has one light glowing solid.I've removed the battery and tried to start it with just the power adapter, I've tried Ctrl+Cmd+Power Button, I've reset the PRAM, I've reset the SMC, and it still doesn't work.

This was fine for a while but now it won't turn on, whenever I try to turn it on it just comes up with a grey screen and wont load. Some older games (that I like to still play) do not support wide screen resolutions. On my PC this isn't an issue because under the nvidia control panel there is an option to tell the resolution not to scale. You get a black border around your screen if you do this, but at least it doesn't stretch it which looks awful.
Everyone is mentioning i5 and i7 upgrades. Why not the i3 for the lower end macbooks?

256GB PCIe-based flash storage
From reviews seen so far the 4K monitors available do not achieve the 60Hz refresh rate...
The other issue is that the price of these displays is somewhat extravagant at the moment and since I intend to use my Mac pro for other applications and not Video and Photo editing I would like to ask whether a display of resolution (say 1920X1080) would work with my new Mac Pro.

I'm thinking of buying an ACD 27inch. Given that I need to view the monitor from a greater distance than normal (music/recording uses) and that sometimes I find the text in some apps a little too small at that resolution, I was wondering how the display looks on the lower resolution for increased text size? I tried it in the store on 1920x1080 and it appeared to be quite readable and the text was nice and big even though the image was not as sharp. I assume this is the same as running a 24inch ACD in terms of real estate but with bigger text. I think the ppi would be lower for the 27 inch on 1080p resulting in bigger and more easily readable text for my purposes. Although the screen didn't appear as sharp on the lower resolution, the text seemed OK and there didn't seem to be any limitations to viewing. So, in general is there much distortion or is it usable for most tasks if one needs the bigger text or should I go for the lower screen size. From the store it seemed like it would satisfy me, but I want to know if there are distortion issues and if text and images are still decent?
Also, due to the glossy screen in a room with windows, is it important to close all the blinds in the day time to reduce glare? What kind of light source is recommended in the room in terms of brightness level? I have two windows with light curtains that allow strong sunlight through.
I spilt soda on the lower corner of my screen, which then dribbled down to the black plastic. The macbook pro 13" unibody imemediately turned off, I disconnected teh power cable. I will wait to let it dry out. any prospects?

I have a copy of Sim City classic, I tried installing on my MBP, no classic/can't lower the screen resolution low enough. I picked up a Power Mac 5500/225 from work, figuring it would do the trick. I can't get the graphics any lower then 256, the game wants 16! It also has a black and white game, but even after I turned the monitor to black and white, restarted, still didn't see it as two tone. View 11 Replies View RelatedI have 15" MacBookPro 3,1 and the lower 1/4 of the screen will just freeze up randomly. I can gently touch the lower right portion of the screen and it revives(refreshes) but I know its not good for it and it seems to be getting worse. display is shorting out. Any one else have a solution or idea of repair cost? Still a good computer! Just put Lion on it and it runs great, 4 years strong.

"logic" is a PC Server (specifically, a Windows 2003 SBS Server with Exchange 2003) on my network. My question is simple: How to get this item to show as "Logic", with a capital "L"? It bugs me that "logic" starts with a lower-case "l".
We have an old eMac but it works pretty well for our daughter's needs. We have a mysterious problem where the lower case 'r' won't work. I thought the keyboard was faulty and bought a new one but have the same problem with that so it's in the system somewhere. The uppercase R works.

The computer came back with a defect DVD/CD writer that was working before they change mother board. I sent back the computer and they repaired it again. Computer came back and now the letter H (lower case) is not working. I tried several keyboard and the letter H lower case does not work but upper case H works. The repair shop cannot find the problem. I reinstalled OSX, reformatted my a disk and nothing is working to correct the problem.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe black strip that covers the hinge on my mbp (the one beneath the MacBook Pro writing) is getting increasingly loose. It slides left and right and also makes clicking noises whenever the lid is opened / shut. Obviously this is a cosmetic annoyance, but as ever, this wasn't the cheapest of laptops so faults like this are quite annoying. Anyone else had similar issues? Also is there way of taking it off and repositiong it without having to take too much of the machine apart?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm on the Mac indicated on my signature and am running Snow Leopard. The 4 finger swipes up and down are so buggy in this release. When I swipe up, I get the desktop to show, I swipe down to have the current thing come back up, but right as I let go of my 4 fingers, it jumps back to showing the desktop. I can't get out of this cycle unless I click on the lower right hand corner or something. Video of what happens
