I came to use my laptop and the fan was running but it wasn't turned on. The green light on the charger is lighting up and if I take the battery out the fan stops. What do you think happened to my laptop? Is it fatal? Can this be reset or something?

View 6 Replies View RelatedLast night I was watching some videos on my computer and noticed that the fans were spinning, because it was pretty hot. Next thing I know the laptop just shut off. I didn't think to much of it because I just assumed the battery dided and needed to be recharged.
Well now I go to restart my Laptop and it will not turn on even with the laptop plugged in. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Is my laptop dead, what happened?
About a month ago I bought one of the new Macbook Pros, a 15 inch i7 version with highres matte screen.This morning I went to turn on my computer and I thought I had turned it off last night, but it turns out that I hadn't, so when I hit the start button it woke up and then promptly shut off. I haven't been able to get it to turn on since. Absolutely nothing happens when I push the start button, whether I have it plugged into battery power or not.

For now i used superglue to put it back together, but if the computer gets hot i think the superglue will melt and cause problems.i have been told its impossible to find a replacement screen for this model cheap enough to make it worthy of repair.I am thinking of turning it into a desktop by getting an external monitor. Can I remove the LCD screen entirely off the macbook pro so it's just the body, and then connect it to a new monitor? this way i can still use the keyboard/mouse, and not have to worry about the existing screen and superglue, melting.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI put my 17" Macbook Pro to sleep overnight without the power adapter two nights ago, and when I woke up yesterday it wouldn't turn on, even with the power adapter plugged in. The battery was almost dead when I put it to sleep (2% charge), but after leaving the adapter plugged in all day yesterday the battery indicator on the bottom only has one light glowing solid.I've removed the battery and tried to start it with just the power adapter, I've tried Ctrl+Cmd+Power Button, I've reset the PRAM, I've reset the SMC, and it still doesn't work.

My screen today suddenly went black but the laptop was still running. I shut it down and unplugged for several hours, no luck. I have done the hard SMC and PRAM resets. Both times the apple screen comes up but now it just stays a solid grey.

I have a 2011 macbook that has a motherboard that is broken, and that macbook has a terabyte Hard drive that was put in about a year ago after a broken hard drive was removed. Now I have bought a brand new macbook same model and I was advised by the apple store to take the old TB hard drive and swap it with the one in the new computer. I just want to know if by doing this I'm going to loose all of my files and programs by just swapping them. I have no back up anywhere just the files on the hard drive in the broken computer. So am I going to loose all of the files on the hard drive when I swap it? or will I have to get it backed up some how? They are both running Mavericks

I have a 2008 non-unibody MacBook Pro. When I boot the computer, sometimes the display does not turn on. I've tried using the flashlight technique, and there isn't even anything on the LCD. I know the computer is on because it makes the chime and if I enter my password I can adjust the volume and play music. Occasionally, resetting the SMC will fix the issue temporarily, but it doesn't always work. What should I do?

Yesterday, I upgraded to iWork09 and today I cannot get my MacBookPro to turn on. I have tried all the recommended reboot methods but nothing seems to work. I suspect the new software is the culprit because at the end of the load, there was a message to say the disc could not complete because of 'damage'. The software worked fine but I noticed the notebook was running significantly slower and now, I cannot even turn on.
My laptop starts getting really hot, especially under my hands. Is there a way to get OS X or something to turn the fan on when the laptop is at a lower temperature?

I decided to install Mac OS X on the Dual Drive and it installed correctly, but when ever I close my laptop screen, my hardrive turns off and I have to restart my computer. When ever I turn off my iMac (AL mid-2007 running 10.5) it seems like it hangs during shutdown. It takes about 60 seconds to shutdown and after about 30 seconds it starts to show. It looks like this, except it still shows my wallpaper... (This is just an image I found on the web). I am not sure why it is taking so long to shutdown lately... I don't remember it taking nearly this long in the past. Here is a photo of everything that is running during shutdown and it still does it. (I usually try to close out of apps before shutting down).

1) Bluetooth is ON:
I can't turn it off. The checkbox is inactive.
But I can turn it off, if I choose "Share my internet connection for other units". (I don't know, if this is the right text in english, because my OSX is in german)
2) Now Bluetooth is OFF:
But I can't turn it on, because the checkbox "ON" is inactive.
It turns only on, if I choose "New Unit"(?). Then there is a new window, that says, that this is only possible if Bluetooth turns on. If I say OK, bluetooth turns ON.

What's the problem. Why is this f* checkbox for turning bluetooth on and off inactive?
This is not a hardware problem, because I can have stable bluetooth connections.
I did a smc and am pram reset. But it doesn't help.
I have a Macbook running Leopard and an iMac running Tiger. I am looking to upgrade Leopard to Snow Leopard and Tiger to Leopard. If I were to purchase Snow Leopard and install it on the Macbook, would I then be able to use the copy of Leopard that came with the Macbook on the iMac? I am not trying to use 2 copies of the same thing on different machines, I just want to put a new os on one machine and move the existing one to another.I am reluctant to purchase the Mac Box Set version of Snow Leopard for the iMac because I do not want or need iLife and iWork.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook Pro (from mid-2010) has recently started running EXTREMELY slowly, and the fan continuously runs loudly. From other posts, I have checked my activity monitor to see if any process is taking up a lot of the CPU % and have found that nothing seems high, except the kernel_task which, from what I understand, is supposed to be high. I have also attempted to reset the SMC which didn't fix the problem either. I have taken my computer to the genius bar 3 times now, and they keep telling me nothing is wrong (because it works perfectly there), but when I get it home the fan comes back on, and everything runs slowly.

My Mac feels as if it is running slower these last couple of months. I have thought of pursuing a commercially available "clean up" product, but thought I would try the community first and also for pointers using the Mac's own internal diagnostics or system improvement capabilities. Any and all advice is most welcome. I have a 250GB hard drive that is half full, I always update to latest revisions and have an extra high-speed internet connection. Computer is not heavily loaded with apps and typically using Firefox for browsing. (MS Office for Mac as well, but usually limited to one program such as MS Word or Excel at a time.) No heavy graphics utilization. Videos from the internet load slowly and some are choppy. Even scrolling just doesn't seem "brisk".

Had (used) iBook G4 several months now & thoroughly enjoy it, even tho' I live in the sticks where there's no hi-speed/wireless available; I connect to internet & power, which is fine.
This weekend I went to turn off my iBook & it wouldn't turn off. It's now permanently on, with opening info barely visible (like I need to click on F2 to brighten up, except nothing happens).
Currently using my "back up" computer, my iMac Grape, which is pretty much an antique by now.
