When I open the Finder and look at the "Shared" section in the Sidebar, I see the following:

"logic" is a PC Server (specifically, a Windows 2003 SBS Server with Exchange 2003) on my network. My question is simple: How to get this item to show as "Logic", with a capital "L"? It bugs me that "logic" starts with a lower-case "l".
I have about 50 *.mp3's on my hard drive that have the file names in all upper case. When looking at them in itunes it drives me nuts....Is there a way to convert the uppercase file name to lowercase? I have googled but can't find anything. I do not want to do it manually, that would take a long time =( thanks, I'm crossing my fingers

I thought the keyboard was faulty and bought a new one but have the same problem with that so it's in the system somewhere. The uppercase R works.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had problems with my G5 (2005) and the repair shop changed te mother board under warranty. The computer came back with a defect DVD/CD writer that was working before they change mother board. I sent back the computer and they repaired it again. Computer came back and now the letter H (lower case) is not working. I tried several keyboard and the letter H lower case does not work but upper case H works. The repair shop cannot find the problem. I reinstalled OSX, reformatted my a disk and nothing is working to correct the problem.

Since upgrading from Mountain Lion to Mavericks (10.9.4), I've noticed that I am no longer able to sort files by name and get one list in alphabetical order. I now get two, as Mavericks seems to be sorting out files beginning first with uppercase letters and then following with all lowercase letters:
Naturally, this makes it difficult to efficiently scan a directory for a file with a known name, as I'd have to look in two places. Terminal is showing file lists in the same manner. I have made sure that grouping is turned off, so as to not confuse the view while sorting. A related issue that I am dealing with is drop down menus in Apps or on websites where one can typically type the first few letters of an entry and snap right to it. However, typing "tim" will not bring up an entry in a font menu, for instance, if the thing I'm trying to get to is "Times New Roman" with an uppercase T. In this case, I would have to hold the shift key to get a capital letter and then let it go, so that the rest would be lowercase.
I don't remember any Mac operating system before this being so insistent on separating letter cases.

When i bought my macbook, it has a small crack on the lower right hand corner about 2-3 inches away from the trackpad, ive tried to find a new piece, i think its called a bottom bezzel? View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working on restoring a Time Machine backup from Leopard to a clean installation of Snow Leopard. The only problem I'm facing is that the Leopard backup is on a case-sensitive drive (and the Snow Leopard drive is set up, by default, as case-ignorant).
I have scoured the Web the last two days and have not found a definitive answer to my question: Is there a way to transfer the data from the Time Machine backup on the case-sensitive drive to the case-ignorant Snow Leopard drive?
Yesterday I ran across a tutorial explaining how this might be accomplished using SuperDuper! but a commenter explained that Disk Utility could be used and was much easier.
I tried the Disk Utility method but it didn't work, and I ran out of time to give the SuperDuper! option a try. Does anyone know if it, or even Carbon Copy Cloner, might solve my problem?

Some older games (that I like to still play) do not support wide screen resolutions. On my PC this isn't an issue because under the nvidia control panel there is an option to tell the resolution not to scale. You get a black border around your screen if you do this, but at least it doesn't stretch it which looks awful.
Everyone is mentioning i5 and i7 upgrades. Why not the i3 for the lower end macbooks?

From reviews seen so far the 4K monitors available do not achieve the 60Hz refresh rate...
The other issue is that the price of these displays is somewhat extravagant at the moment and since I intend to use my Mac pro for other applications and not Video and Photo editing I would like to ask whether a display of resolution (say 1920X1080) would work with my new Mac Pro.

I'm thinking of buying an ACD 27inch. Given that I need to view the monitor from a greater distance than normal (music/recording uses) and that sometimes I find the text in some apps a little too small at that resolution, I was wondering how the display looks on the lower resolution for increased text size? I tried it in the store on 1920x1080 and it appeared to be quite readable and the text was nice and big even though the image was not as sharp. I assume this is the same as running a 24inch ACD in terms of real estate but with bigger text. I think the ppi would be lower for the 27 inch on 1080p resulting in bigger and more easily readable text for my purposes. Although the screen didn't appear as sharp on the lower resolution, the text seemed OK and there didn't seem to be any limitations to viewing. So, in general is there much distortion or is it usable for most tasks if one needs the bigger text or should I go for the lower screen size. From the store it seemed like it would satisfy me, but I want to know if there are distortion issues and if text and images are still decent?
Also, due to the glossy screen in a room with windows, is it important to close all the blinds in the day time to reduce glare? What kind of light source is recommended in the room in terms of brightness level? I have two windows with light curtains that allow strong sunlight through.
My laptop starts getting really hot, especially under my hands. Is there a way to get OS X or something to turn the fan on when the laptop is at a lower temperature?

I have a copy of Sim City classic, I tried installing on my MBP, no classic/can't lower the screen resolution low enough. I picked up a Power Mac 5500/225 from work, figuring it would do the trick. I can't get the graphics any lower then 256, the game wants 16! It also has a black and white game, but even after I turned the monitor to black and white, restarted, still didn't see it as two tone. View 11 Replies View RelatedI have 15" MacBookPro 3,1 and the lower 1/4 of the screen will just freeze up randomly. I can gently touch the lower right portion of the screen and it revives(refreshes) but I know its not good for it and it seems to be getting worse. display is shorting out. Any one else have a solution or idea of repair cost? Still a good computer! Just put Lion on it and it runs great, 4 years strong.

The black strip that covers the hinge on my mbp (the one beneath the MacBook Pro writing) is getting increasingly loose. It slides left and right and also makes clicking noises whenever the lid is opened / shut. Obviously this is a cosmetic annoyance, but as ever, this wasn't the cheapest of laptops so faults like this are quite annoying. Anyone else had similar issues? Also is there way of taking it off and repositiong it without having to take too much of the machine apart?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm on the Mac indicated on my signature and am running Snow Leopard. The 4 finger swipes up and down are so buggy in this release. When I swipe up, I get the desktop to show, I swipe down to have the current thing come back up, but right as I let go of my 4 fingers, it jumps back to showing the desktop. I can't get out of this cycle unless I click on the lower right hand corner or something. Video of what happens

View 6 Replies View RelatedWell, this problem that I thought was coming from the Radeon 4870 fan was really coming from the lower intake fan on my Mac Pro. The rattling noise was coming from this fan itself, and the Radeon 4870 was actually running silent the whole time. This is probably why people with the X1900 and older Mac Pros have been reporting the same issue. This has actually solved the problem for me, my Mac Pro is running silent now: I downloaded SMC Fan Control, then I increased the speed on my intake fan to max, 2800rpm. I let the fan run at max for one minute, I had an idea that this would cause the fan to work out the kinks if it had any.
