OS X :: Concurrent Remote Graphic Session?

Nov 20, 2009

I know that a lot of people already asked this for older OS. But I was wondering if it is possible to have a windows computer connect to a mac without interruption to the user that is logged in an account on the mac. I just want my windows computers to access the mac remotely without logging the current user out. I don't want to telnet or ssh I want to remote control it. I am wondering if it will be a graphical user interface.

Software :: X11 Window Forwarding - Remote Gnome Session?

Jan 30, 2009

My university currently allows me to connect to their Linux servers with SSH, and to use graphical applications with X11 window forwarding (using the -X option at SSH login).

I was wandering if anyone knew how to start a remote Gnome session (not just the terminal in SSH, but using the GUI). I have got it to almost work by connecting with SSH and executing:

'gnome &'

I get the splash screen, and the toolbar appears at the bottom of the screen, but then the desktop moves between my two displays in such a way as to make it unusable - the toolbar disappears of the bottom along with half of the desktop, and I can't move the window.

I have read that Apple have used some strange display options with X11, but don't know how to change them.

I am using OS X 10.5.6 on a MacBook Pro, with my desktop extended across two monitors (which I think may be why this doesn't work...).

Safari :: Get It To Not Open To Last Session

I recently updated to Lion. So far the only thing that really annoys me is that every time I open Safari it opens to the last page(s) I visited. I want it to open to a blank page. For the life of me - I cannot figure out how to get it to do this.

OS X :: Setting Up Mac As A Remote Server NOT A Local Home Server

Mar 19, 2009

I have a Mac pro that I use at home. I want to set it up as a server. Like a hosting server that I can log on to anywhere in the world, not just on my local network. I want to set it up similar to a hosting account through someone like godaddy. Where I can log in using FTP or something else. Do I need to install Mac OS X server? I've tried searching but I keep find local home servers. Anyone got any ideas? I'm guessing the first thing I need is a static IP, where do I get that?

Software :: Epson Scanner - Failed To Open Session On Device

I just purchased a used Epson 3170 Perfection Photo Scanner. When I try to use Image Capture, the software recognizes the scanner as a device. But I get the message "Failed to open a session on the device."

Note: From the Epson site, I downloaded an Epson ICA Driver v5.2.6 for Image Capture because "This driver corrects possible issues when using Apple's Image Capture utility with an Epson scanner."

IMac (Intel) :: When Returning To Open User Session From Login Screen / Windows Have Moved Or / Been Resized

Jun 6, 2014

I recently updated by 2013 27" iMac to OS X 10.9.3 and since then, I have a weird problem when I switch from one user to another: I often have several user sessions opened for several account, and when I switch from one to the other, or go to the login screen and open an already open session, I find the windows I had left open resized and/or moved. They're often moved to the upper left corner, and resized as if the screen was much smaller than it actually is. It worked without any problem in OS X 10.9.2…

Mac Mini :: Creating FTP Server With Remote Access?

Aug 15, 2010

My goal is to by a mac mini that will run 24/7 it will be connected to about 5TB's of storage that will have all my personal data on it. My goal is to create an FTP server that will host all these files that I can access remotely and let friends and family access it. I pretty much have it all sorted out I just wanted to check with some people on here. To run it I will be using a program called PureFTPd to manage the server and I can create accounts and manage them all through this application. Does anyone have a better way for me to do this or an alternate application that is better, And also I have connected to my mac book pro remotely using the built in FTP feature and PureFTP so yer, Does anyone else have a better idea for me running a server?

OS X Technologies :: Copy Folder From Server To Remote?

Mar 7, 2012

Im trying to run an rsync command which copies a backup of a server services folder using a remote computer. The backup folder of services resides on the main system disk.

AR-ADL-MBP1-John:~ john$ sudo rsync -va -e --delete ssh admin@10.105.141.66:/Volumes/Server HD_mail/Data Store Backups /Volumes/ARINA temp

errors out with building file list ... rsync: link_stat "/Users/john/ssh" failed: No such file or directory (2) rsync: link_stat "/Users/john/admin@mail.arina.biz/Volumes/Server HD_mail/Data Store Backups" failed: No such file or directory (2)

I've also tried to open the server in finder and run the rsync without ssh. This works for non system disks but get permissions errors on this system disk rsync: readdir("/Volumes/Server HD_mail/Data Store Backups/M-W-F/Data_Stores/mail/259F2CAC-D0EB-4348-B85F-1257F8242E87"): Permission denied (13)

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Connecting To A Remote Server

I am tryiing to connect to a remote desktop servere which , I think, is Windows based.  I know the IP address which, for example, is 123.45.67.891:2345

When I type this into the "connect remote server" (Finder>Go> Connect remote server) Apple adds a prefix   afp://  .   In the "missing manual" book by David Pogue he suggests the prefix ought be   smb://  for a windows server.  Either way, a dialogue box informs me that attempt has failed whem I try to connect

OS X :: VPN / SSH Server And Secure Remote Access For Snow Leopard

Feb 3, 2010

I would like to ask on how I can connect securely to my iMac at home from my MBP when I'm travelling. I have subscribed to MobileMe, unfortunately, it is not always possible to connect using MobileMe due to technical issues (Many would have agreed that MobileMe are not reliable at times).

What I would like to achieve is the following:

1) Install either a VPN and/or SSH server in my iMac at home

2) Enable access not only my iMac but also my home network and internet connection from my home.

2) Be able to browse using my iMac or AEBS in my home network from my MBP in a secure way (similar to proxy).

I understand that I can setup SSH server and do some port forwarding with it. I need more details or tutorial on this, if you have any link that would be appreicated. Basically, I understand the idea but this would be impractical as I need to setup a lot of forwarding (one forwarding for each service).

So VPN solution may be cleaner in a way. I checked that OpenVPN.net doesn't support newer OSX anymore. Any idea how to do this? I have identified an OpenVPN client that can be used but not the server portion.

Applications :: Remote Desktop Server Equiv For OSX Snow Leopard?

Dec 15, 2010

Just had my 3 yrs old Mac Mini decomission and set aside in the living hall as a media server recently. While I use the mini primary to watch movies, in which it does great with XBMC, I would like to have the ability to Remote Login (GUI) into the mini WHILE my wife is watching her fav movie CONCURRENTLY without any disturbance. I guess this a old topic i'm revisiting here. I've been googling around and searching this forum, but yet till now, the closest solution I've came to is having OSXvnc (Vine Server) running along with fast using switching, plus some VNC client etc. The worst part of this approach is, each remote user have to log into the physical machine for fast user switching. This is just soooo dodgy as compare to the windoze variant. I'm posting to see, if anyone have a better solution that:

1. each remote user dun have to physically login first
2. I can have concurrent session running (either remote, or local-wife watching movie)

Does the Mac OSX SL Server have something to offer to this problem? And also, I've discovered that The Apple Remote Desktop is more for a network administrator sort of app, totally not related to allowing multiple concurent remote GUI Sessions.

Hardware :: Manually Configure Airport Extreme For HP Mediasmart Server Remote Access?

Dec 28, 2009

I have an HP EX490 Mediasmart Server that I'm trying to get Remote Access to work with my Airport Extreme (N/Giga version). Unfortunately HP doesn't recommend the Airport Extreme for Remote Access use since it doesn't support UPnP. I followed one guy's steps to manually configure the port forwarding to get Remote Access to work, based upon comments it works for some and doesn't work for others. I've provided screenshots that match his instructions, and I was wondering if anyone has had luck and are there extra steps since I have the latest firmware on my Airport Extreme? I really don't feel like buying another wireless router if possible, but if I need to, any recommendations that has a USB port so I can print wireless with my current printer?
