I had always been able to click on my remote server under devices and search for folders and files but now I don't get anything, not even the spinning status. However the Finder works for all other devices but just not my remote server anymore. What happened, how can I get it back on track?
I've recently discovered that while searching in Finder I am not getting any results of files that have underscores in their file names. For example, a photographer sent over hundreds of files that are named "IMG_1234.jpg." When I search in that folder for any files named "34", I get no results, even though I can see the file is right there. Files with names like "AC-1234.jpg" are fine and come up in the results right away. Â
What gives with the underscore? Is this a Mavericks thing? I've never had this issue before with Finder. Is there a setting I can change to include these file names in my search results?
We have a Windows 2003 server on which we have a large archive of photos. The few of us that need to access this archive are on Macs, all running version 10.5.6. I know that on a Mac, when we search files located on our machines, it searches the metadata or keywords in the jpeg files. However, when I search the windows server, it doesn't look at that info. Is there any way to change that? Anything that can be done to either the macs or the windows server? I also noticed that when I have a file selected that is located my mac and hit "Get Info" I am able to see all that metadata under the "More Info" section. However when that same file is sitting on the windows server, "Get Info" doesn't show me anything.
I have a Mac pro that I use at home. I want to set it up as a server. Like a hosting server that I can log on to anywhere in the world, not just on my local network. I want to set it up similar to a hosting account through someone like godaddy. Where I can log in using FTP or something else. Do I need to install Mac OS X server? I've tried searching but I keep find local home servers. Anyone got any ideas? I'm guessing the first thing I need is a static IP, where do I get that?
My goal is to by a mac mini that will run 24/7 it will be connected to about 5TB's of storage that will have all my personal data on it. My goal is to create an FTP server that will host all these files that I can access remotely and let friends and family access it. I pretty much have it all sorted out I just wanted to check with some people on here. To run it I will be using a program called PureFTPd to manage the server and I can create accounts and manage them all through this application. Does anyone have a better way for me to do this or an alternate application that is better, And also I have connected to my mac book pro remotely using the built in FTP feature and PureFTP so yer, Does anyone else have a better idea for me running a server?
Im trying to run an rsync command which copies a backup of a server services folder using a remote computer. The backup folder of services resides on the main system disk. Â
errors out with building file list ... rsync: link_stat "/Users/john/ssh" failed: No such file or directory (2) rsync: link_stat "/Users/john/admin@mail.arina.biz/Volumes/Server HD_mail/Data Store Backups" failed: No such file or directory (2)  Â
I've also tried to open the server in finder and run the rsync without ssh. This works for non system disks but get permissions errors on this system disk rsync: readdir("/Volumes/Server HD_mail/Data Store Backups/M-W-F/Data_Stores/mail/259F2CAC-D0EB-4348-B85F-1257F8242E87"): Permission denied (13)  Â
I have a ne wissued company mac notebook, also new to mac. I am at a hotel and cannot send out mail via the mac mail program. I do receive all my emails. The message I receive is the outgoing mail sever is offline. during my trip, I had a layover at an airport and received/sent emails without a problem. Something at my hotel put the outgoing mail server offline.
Info: Mac OS X (10.7.3), remote access to email server
I am tryiing to connect to a remote desktop servere which , I think, is Windows based. I know the IP address which, for example, is 123.45.67.891:2345
When I type this into the "connect remote server" (Finder>Go> Connect remote server) Apple adds a prefix  afp:// .  In the "missing manual" book by David Pogue he suggests the prefix ought be  smb:// for a windows server. Either way, a dialogue box informs me that attempt has failed whem I try to connect
I have a MacBook Air. I inserted memory stick , but it did not appear in the Finders list for Devices / Remote Discs. When I removed it, a box opened telling me I did so incorrectly. I know how to eject remote devices, but if it was not listed, I could not do it properly. Why did it not appear under Remote Discs?
I would like to ask on how I can connect securely to my iMac at home from my MBP when I'm travelling. I have subscribed to MobileMe, unfortunately, it is not always possible to connect using MobileMe due to technical issues (Many would have agreed that MobileMe are not reliable at times).
What I would like to achieve is the following:
1) Install either a VPN and/or SSH server in my iMac at home
2) Enable access not only my iMac but also my home network and internet connection from my home.
2) Be able to browse using my iMac or AEBS in my home network from my MBP in a secure way (similar to proxy).
I understand that I can setup SSH server and do some port forwarding with it. I need more details or tutorial on this, if you have any link that would be appreicated. Basically, I understand the idea but this would be impractical as I need to setup a lot of forwarding (one forwarding for each service).
So VPN solution may be cleaner in a way. I checked that OpenVPN.net doesn't support newer OSX anymore. Any idea how to do this? I have identified an OpenVPN client that can be used but not the server portion.
VPN (PPTP) in 'NETWORK' pops up: "A connection could not be established to the PPP server." PC's using the same IP address password and internet connection get in just fine. What should I check? Connecting the same way getting on the internet here at work were the PC I am trying to connect with works just fine. VPN(PPTP) connects and Remote Desktop takes me to the PC's desktop just fine. I have tried from home with both my mac laptop and imac desktop, neither will connect but PC users have no problem connecting remotely.
Just had my 3 yrs old Mac Mini decomission and set aside in the living hall as a media server recently. While I use the mini primary to watch movies, in which it does great with XBMC, I would like to have the ability to Remote Login (GUI) into the mini WHILE my wife is watching her fav movie CONCURRENTLY without any disturbance. I guess this a old topic i'm revisiting here. I've been googling around and searching this forum, but yet till now, the closest solution I've came to is having OSXvnc (Vine Server) running along with fast using switching, plus some VNC client etc. The worst part of this approach is, each remote user have to log into the physical machine for fast user switching. This is just soooo dodgy as compare to the windoze variant. I'm posting to see, if anyone have a better solution that:
1. each remote user dun have to physically login first 2. I can have concurrent session running (either remote, or local-wife watching movie)
Does the Mac OSX SL Server have something to offer to this problem? And also, I've discovered that The Apple Remote Desktop is more for a network administrator sort of app, totally not related to allowing multiple concurent remote GUI Sessions.
If our users can simply remove the Remote Management Profile and have access to everything anyway, what is the point of remote management? I need to be able to lock this profile down so that it cannot be removed without a password, but I see no way to do this. Is this a giant bug in the software or am I missing something?
how to connect a Windows 7 machine to my remote OS X Lion File Server? On my macs, it is simple, I go to finder, choose Go -->Connect to Server, and enter my IP address. I can't seem to figure out how to do this on a windows system.
I am a new Apple convert and my Company has a Windows Network which I need to log into remotely. When using Windows would log in through Terminal Services. Can anyone suggest what I can use with my Mac Air. The Server runs on Windows Server 2008. On my iPhone I use Wyse Pocket Cloud which is fantastic but don't seem to have an app for Mac Air.
I have an HP EX490 Mediasmart Server that I'm trying to get Remote Access to work with my Airport Extreme (N/Giga version). Unfortunately HP doesn't recommend the Airport Extreme for Remote Access use since it doesn't support UPnP. I followed one guy's steps to manually configure the port forwarding to get Remote Access to work, based upon comments it works for some and doesn't work for others. I've provided screenshots that match his instructions, and I was wondering if anyone has had luck and are there extra steps since I have the latest firmware on my Airport Extreme? I really don't feel like buying another wireless router if possible, but if I need to, any recommendations that has a USB port so I can print wireless with my current printer?
Well, I've never seen this before. I did not (intentionally) connect to this server listed under Shared in the sidebar... so where did it come from and how can I ditch it? Get Info only tells me it's a PC server
My file sharing is turned off, etc. Little Snitch is not flagging any unexpected network activity. I'm very puzzled.
17 inch iMAC with OSX version 10.6.8. How do I delete that an unwanted computername? Spent hours and hours on finding an answer / solution. However, without succes. Under SHARED I see two lines featured as mac servers. One is <iMac van bouko witteveen> the other one is <Time Capsule MAIN>
Q. I stopped an update installer of some Apple software and the Finder, now crashes without showing the desktop. Only the Apple logo and a spinning Beachball which never disappears. I can start up in the Unix mode and also in the Windows mode. I have an Imac with Osx 10.4. I could reinstall the system but probably I will loose a lot of unique files and poto's. In the Unix mode I have removed the Installer file from the desktop but it didn't change the startup. I have little experience with Unix.
I have recently installed Mac os X Lion on my work iMacs, and ever since I haven't been able to search on my windows server. I was running both leopard and snow leopard before, and back then it worked perfectly.
I'm looking for a system that can track about 50 MBP's providing both remote wipe as part of an overall security protocol, and also remote screen/desktop for admin purposes. I looked at preyproject.com but it looks like they only do remote wiping/tracking. that I don't want something locked to a single user, it should be centrally managed.Â
I've been having trouble downloading files from an ftp server (URL) on Finder and while it does fully download eventually, it takes a while and if I click the x to stop it, the download won't stop. Is this a known problem with Finder, is it a glitch, or is it my internet connection.
