OS X :: Screen Has A 1 Inch Stripe In The Middle From Top To Bottom?
Sep 22, 2009this morning i turned on my comp and everthing was fine, but then my son started to watch something on youtube and this blinking stripe appeared i thought it was the youtube image, when he closed it, it was my comp screen!! the sun hits directly on the back of the comp, and i've been told that it could damage the comp, could that be it? i have a mac os x 10.4.11.

Jun 11, 2008I have an inch wide white stripe that runs from the top to the bottom of my screen. This is on an Imac. The cursor disappears when going through it but pops out on the other side. It doesn't move but I can drag my window back and forth to view the part the stripe covers.
Any ideas or should I locate a local mac repair person?
PowerPC :: Yellow / Green Stripe Appeared On Screen Display
Sep 22, 2009Pulled my coveted 12" 1.5 ghz powerbook out of its bag and it's has an annoying little opaque stripe about 3/4" along the right side of the display. It changes color from yellow to green. When I pinch the lower side of my display together, it goes back to the blue background color, but still has a distortion to it.

MacBook Pro :: Spilled Tea - Now Screen Looks Weird?
May 4, 2010i didn't spill the tea exactly on my macbook pro. I spilled it in a bag, where the macbook was in its case.The case got all wet on one side and so did the mac. Non of the liquid got anywhere near the keyboard, mostly it was on the cover and a bit on the side where the CD-rom is. I opened the mac - it worked (and still works) fine. However, somehow the liquid got into the screen - under the glass. I now see stains over my screen. About half of them dried really quickly, but the rest a still there (about two hours have passed). I wait for it to go away? Do I blow-dry it? Or am I forever stuck with a stained screen?I checked the "i-spilled-stuff-on-mac" guide, but it doesn't mention any screen problems.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Goes Blank Randomly - A Bunch Of Weird Lines Appear?
Sep 7, 2010In the past month, my Macbook pro, which I have had since May 2009, has started to act very strange.
Sometimes when I watch videos online (collegehumor, youtube, etc.), or am just working on my laptop, the screen stops working. It goes mostly black, and a bunch of weird lines appear on the screen.
The system hasn't crashed or froze, since I can still see my mouse because one little line follows its movement, and the audio still works, and I can still Command + Q and exit out of programs.
I think the problem may have been that I slipped on the stairs one day holding my Macbook Pro and may have damaged the screen somehow, but I just want to know if this has happened to somebody else with their MBP, and what caused it?
MacBook Pro :: Weird Black Smudges And White Spots On Screen?
Jan 2, 2011I have a 15'' mbp previous generation with the silver keys. I had my trackpad repaired by apple back in March 2010. Since then, these little black smudges and white spots have been appearing behind the lcd screen. The black smudges actually look like dust that got between the screen. I took some pictures and circled them. You can see them better against a white screen. Sorry about the quality of the pics. The first one is the whole screen and the second two are close ups of a black smudge and a white spot.

May 24, 2009First of all I'm new here so just wanted to say 'Hi', its been great to see all the discussions on these forums and they help a lot with buying tips and troubleshooting so thanks.
Problem #1 I purchased a refurb 24" 2.8GHz imac early May and have been using it since then and so far other than the "normal" gradient issue and a brownish tinge around the edges of the screen it has been good.
Lately I've been using Aperture a lot and first started to notice that in some pictures especially ones with quite a bit of highlights like clouds that there are small hatch like patches in all the pics. I know it isn't the pictures but the imac screen itself as you can see it on the desktop as well. It only seems to be centralized in the upper left hand section of the screen and they seem to be lite purple/blue in color. And like I said its only in patches in certain spots on the screen. Don't know if I'm being over anal about this or is this a problem?
Problem #2 I switched to a solid blue background to check the above problem and notice that there is screen burn in of the top and bottom header in the outline of my firefox window on the blue screen. Between switching windows often and applications very frequently and not leaving the computer at all... what the heck? Not normal for imac screens is it? Heat issue causing burn in? Hasn't been an issue with any other LCD I've ever used.
By the way the imac came in a new white box and was wrapped like new in perfect condition but I popped it open without ever starting it once to make a hard drive swap and the thing was definitely a bit dusty inside so in now way was it just used for a couple weeks before being given back to apple.
MacBook Pro :: When Restart Machine, Bootup Is Really Slow And Then Get A Weird Screen Glitch?
Apr 7, 2007I have a 1.83 MBP, with 1.5 gigs of RAM (stock 512 + additional crucial 1gb) 80 gig HD. Pretty standard.My issue is that once in a while when I restart my machine, bootup is really slow and then I get a weird screen glitch. Often I won't get a full re-boot but will get a half appearing dock and no desktop icons. Sometimes it will have lots of grainy lines across it. Sometimes I will get the beach ball for extended times and it will just freeze there. Basically I keep restarting it, and eventually it goes away and boots up normal.
The thing is I can't really replicate the problem. It just happens at random. Sometimes it happens after I have a system crash, and I need to restart, and sometimes it happens just after a system update restart.Like I said, it doesn't happen that often, but when it does it kind of freaks me out. I've had the logic board replaced in the past to eliminate the "whinning" (which, thankfully is now gone) and I wonder if this is another logic board problem. Other than that the computer has been great. And upon the complementary Applecare expiring pretty soon, I wonder if I should take it in for a repair or just not worry about it. It's kind of hard to take it in if I can't really show them the problem.
MacBook Pro :: System Freezes Playing Videos / Weird Color Bars On Video Screen
Apr 29, 2010Ok, I've noticed this week that my 2010 13" MBP hangs a lot when it plays any videos I've bought off of itunes (it's fine with other videos). I mean anytime a itunes video pops up on my itunes player, the whole computer hangs (beachball of death and can't do anything). And it hangs for quite a bit (haven't timed it but a minute maybe?)
At first I thought it was the graphics card as the first time I realized what was causing my computer to randomly freeze up (it's been starting to do that this week but at first wasn't sure what cause itunes was in the background) it gave the wierd color bars on the video screen for the video it was playing (I have itunes play the video in the small box on the left bottom corner). Like the whole video screen was random fubar color bars and not the video (it took a minute and then eventually played fine after me reclicking the video). It has not done that since.
I played around with it and noticed it seems fine when I play videos I have not bought off of itunes but it reliabley hangs the whole computer when I try to play a video bought off of itunes. It eventually plays but it is really annoying particularly cause it holds up my whole computer until it resolves whatever issue it is.
So, hardware or software and any suggestions if it is software on how to fix it?

Apr 28, 2010So, my late 2008 aluminum Macbook has been giving me some issues. At first, the display basically conked out on me so I had to get that replaced. Then about a week after it got replaced, it looked like some sort of liquid had oozed out of the display. It was basically between the LCD screen and the glass display. I pressed on it a couple times with my thumb and it went away. Then yesterday, the liquid came back. Then late last night, this vertical line of static came up and it wont go away.
Here is a picture of the liquid stuff. It's not great because I can only see it when the screen is off because the vertical stripe is on top of the liquid stuff. Its kinda hard to see, but it looks like oil on the inside of the screen.

Mar 4, 2009All the screens I have seen have at least a stripe of bleeding on top and some screens have more bleeding on the bottom in addition to that!I just opened my machine today with week5 production and it has a very thin (thinner than others) stripe of bleeding on top and kind of two blobs on the bottom corners.As for the lines (for the curious ones) they are there but this is the best screen I have ever seen since it is way harder to notice them compared to the rest. It is a model 9C90.
Would I return it you might ask, well, I am kind of sick of waiting more for a MBA since this is my second machine since the release of revB so I am kind of 50-50 now on keeping it.BTW, I bought this from Amazon so I was wondering if any of your returned a MBA due to the lines/bleeding issue and got a full refund from them.
Mac Pro :: Creating A RAID 0 Stripe Set?
Jun 8, 2012I have an existing drive with an existing partition. Can Disk Utility be used to convert this to a stripe set? I assume not but it would save sme time if it could. I have two iTB drives that I would like to treat as a single 2TB drive.

Sep 5, 2009I have installed 2x Intel X-25M Gen2 (SSDSA2MH160G2C1) 160GB SSDs in RAID 0 (striped) in my 17" uMBP. Second SSD was installed using a MCE Optibay in place of CD-ROM. I used the OSX Disk Utility to create the stripe partion with no problems. I currently have 10.5.8 loaded and will be loading 10.6.0 tonight and doing some simple GeekBench benchmarks.

May 4, 2009Recently, the display of my MacBook Pro (unfortunately, out of warranty) often is black/greyish after wake-up/start-up with a thin white stripe in the middle of the screen, and the computer (obviously) cannot be used in this mode (you can hear it start up, but since the screen is completely dark, I can't actually do anything - restarting doesn't help either).
At first I thought it might be the graphic card (since there is a known problem with NVIDIA), but I've brought it in for repair where they have run multiple software-tests, and no error code was returned (when I brought it in it magically "fixed itself" and, once running, the problem can't be re-recreated), so nothing was fixed.
It seems to me that the MacBook for some reason cannot find or communicate with the display because I just discovered that if I hook up an external monitor, it manages to find that, and, after disconnecting the external monitor again, also "reconnects" to its own display. It then generally runs fine until I physically move it (ie. put it in my backpack and carry it somewhere) - after being moved, it tends to have the same problem again (not always, but more and more often).
Have you had any similar experience and/or what might cause this and how it could be fixed? I'd like to avoid replacing the display or something of the sort until I know for sure what's going on.
Intel Mac :: Thunder Bolt And External Monitor (Black Stripe)?
Feb 6, 2012I recently replaced my older MBP (2007) for a MBP, 2GHz, Core i7 with thunder bolt. I normally connect to my external monitor, a Samsung SyncMaster B2230HD. This worked perfectly for my needs. I connect my MBP via a Mini Display Port to VGA adapter.
Display resolution:
VGA (External Monitor) 1920x1080 60 Hz
MBP Display 1440 x 900
Problem: Now with the new MBP, I get a black stripe on the left on side. (See pic)
Troubleshooting Steps:
a) Replacement VGA Cable
b) Replacement Mini Display Port Adapter
c) Tried a HDMI cable (worked but with disminish resolution and a yellow tint)
d) Adjusted both MBP and Samsung display settings include Auto Adjust.
I determined that the monitor is okay because the screen is filled with a lower resolution and "mirror display".
MacBook Pro :: Weird Little Pop Sound?
Aug 5, 2009I don't know how to describe it. It's almost like the pop sound you get when you raise/lower the volume, but it happens when you're doing nothing. Like the MBP is hiccuping. A very slight quiet noise, but it's strange and disturbing nonetheless. It's not a mechanical clink, like the HD or something, but a little 'pop'.

MacBook Pro :: Moving Or Tapping Weird Sound
Oct 1, 2010When I pick it up, or when I move is suddenly (even just slightly), I get a horrible sound from the back right hand side. It sounds like a someone is putting a piece of plastic into a spinning fan. It also kinda sounds like the hard drive head hitting the disk (scratching sound). I know that these things are meant to have a movement sensor which actually takes the head OFF the disk, but this sounds like its doing the opposite (scratching the moving disk). If I do it while watching a movie, the film freezes for a second at the same time the sound can be heard - so it's definately something to do with the hard drive.
I have done some research but everyone talking about the sudden movement sensor has described the sound as a "click", not a scratch. Can someone confirm this is normal, or abnormal? It's happening quite a lot - e.g. if I just pick it up it occurs. I've had loads of laptops and this is the first that seems to make a sound whenever I move it...
MacBook Pro :: Weird Battery Behavior After Calibration?
Nov 11, 2010I've just calibrated my battery on my 2.4GHz MBP (let it run out until it slept, then woke it up, then used it till it shut down, then charged it) and it's stuck on "finishing charge". Additionally, the battery health has gone down to 23% from 37% since I have done this.
