I recently got crossover games on my macbook. It works great for stand alone programs, but a few days ago i installed steam and downloaded half-life 2 on it. But now whenever I try to open steam it doesn't work. I would like to remove both steam and the all the half-life 2 files from my computer.

I got an Mac but have a couple of windows games i would like to play without having to install windows on my mac. I installed the game and got the disks and whatnot in and out without a hitch, but when i try to start the game it tells me i have to insert disk 1. So i was wondering if someone could explain how to get around this problem. given that i know very little about computers i would prefer a relatively simple explanation.

-Command and Conquer (All the way from Red Alert 2 to CNC 3)
-Counter-Strike (Condition Zero and Source if possible)
-Day of Defeat (Original from CS Mod)
will migration assistant move over Steam and all the steam games or will it only move the steam client app then you have to redownload the games?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running a new Macbook pro 15 in - 2.8 Duo with 9600 gt. Bootcamp with Windows 7 build 7100. My internal mic works in other applications, but for some reason, when I try to play Steam games, it doesn't pic up any audio coming through it. Tried +voice_forcemicrecord 0 in the Steam startup options. I have only installed drivers from the OSX DVD and one from Nvidia for the graphics card. Any ideas why this is happening? Other folks seem to be able to get their internal mics to work with Steam.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWell I'm running Windows XP SP2 with Boot Camp 2.1 and everything seems to be working fine, but when I'm running Empire: Total War, I have to have the quality on the lowest possible setting. Where as with Half Life (well when I ran it in Parallels this time) runs on highest quality.
Is there something I can do? I didn't think Empire: Total War was THAT graphic intensive, especially if Half Life 2 runs fine.
I have a macbook. (specs below) I tried putting trial version of the Crossover software on the mac for my son to play the game. But it doesn't work all that well (even though Crossover says it should) I am wondering if my macbook is not powerful enough...doesn't have some hardware it needs or what?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm debating on whether -- when they are upgraded -- to get the top of the line 15 inch macbook pro or the top of the line macbook air. I'm going to college in 2011 and I do hope to do a tad bit of gaming during part of my free time. I currently have a early 2008 Macbook Pro with a 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo processor and 2 gb of ram along with a 256 nvidia 8600m GT graphics card and a 5400 rpm 200 gb hdd. I can run call of duty 4 at almost maximum settings with little to no tearing, blurring, or lag during both single player and online play. Would the macbook air be faster than my current system? Could I run games like left for dead 2 or the steam ww2 game (i forgot what it's called) at medium to good quality? How about with the current macbook air? Would the macbook pro be a better choice? I absolutely love the size of the macbook air and the appeal of steam is that I don't need to use a disk to run the games (which would be good on a macbook air).

It's my plan to download some legacy games from Steam (like Doom II, and Half-Life); but does anyone here have any experience with using Steam? Steam appeals to me because it's gonna be easier than hunting-down some of these games on disc. Then there's all that faff with patches and stuff, which Steam deals with automatically.

However, when I go into finder the War Thunder launcher contents folder shows only the folders MacOS and Resources. Each contains one file. View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been meaning to sign up for ages but only now am I getting around to it.Anyway, here is my question.I have been running Linux for quite some time, and am fairly adept at using terminal, WINE, etc. As with most people, I still cannot completely avoid Windows (Borderlands is addictive ok?) and I still use MSN, seeing as 95% of the people I know use it, not Yahoo messenger, AIM or Skype. Which is a nuisance for me, because while I like Adium, it really does suck compared to the real MSN client. And as usual, Microsoft pretends to be nice to Apple "developing software for it" while making sure its products are crippled so people either need to run CrossOver / Wine or Parallels / VMware to use it inside OS X, or create a boot camp partition for Windows. This doesn't make me want to use Windows, it makes me even more glad I purchased a Macbook.Ranting aside, I find the Wine client for Mac kind of 2nd rate compared to the Linux version.Installing winetricks fails miserably, where on Linux it was simple. Also, the lack of a decent DMG file or package makes installing it that little bit more difficult, I've never had good luck at installing things via terminal, even on Linux.My question is, has anyone found a way to install Wine and Winetricks on Mac to install MSN messenger?-IMPORTANT NOTE-I have Adium installed, as well as Microsoft Messenger, aMSN and I've tried basically all the other clients out there. Do not suggest these as solutions. This is about how to install the OFFICIAL Windows Live Messenger on Mac OS X using Wine, CrossOver or another method.

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen I lost my entire collection of PC games, I've gone through the process of making a .iso file of all of the games I've purchased. I have a few games in .iso files sitting on my mac desktop. For some reason, I cannot install Windows Vista on bootcamp anymore, as whenever I try to start up, I get an error saying something like the file "Wmilib" is missing or something, and I can't repair it using the startup disk no matter what. Which leads me to crossovers. I spent my money on it, and am hoping I didn't waste it. Whenever I tell Crossover to load from my mounted .iso file, and hit the "proceed" button, it takes me to the top drop-down menu, where it asks me to select a program to install.
The only problem is that I want to install from my mounted .iso file, and not from the list of supported programs, which is stupid. I've also tried just directly opening the "Setup.exe" file right with Crossover, and that still does nothing, which is very frustrating. Is it even possible to install games on crossover using a .iso file? And if so, what am I doing wrong, that whenever I hit "proceed" button it takes me right to the list of supported software and WON'T LET ME INSTALL without choosing one?
Been trying to install XP (SP3 on my new Macbook via boot camp.
Install goes fine, ive been formatting the drive as FAT.
Once XP has booted i put the mac install disc in to update drivers and what not, every time i do this i get the error 2869.
I also got this error when trying to install steam.
Just bought a 2.53ghz 4g RAM MacBook Pro, just wondering what version of Windows 7 will give me the best performance (through boot camp). I might get the Ultimate edition but should I install the 32/64/86 edition? I'll be using it to run Windows program (obviously) and the occasional L4D2 or TF2 through Steam. I'd like to hear some of user experiences with various versions.

I was trying to install windows on my pro, and i had bootcamp chop the hard disk in half, but then my disk drive didnt read the cd so i had to download and install some file. and after i restarted i could no longer access the windows side, it just disappeared.....plus i cannot reset my hard disk, cant erase it, and i cant reinstall OS X because there is no memory left..
At the beginning of last year I bought a 3.2GHz 27" iMac. About a month ago I noticed that, within about 5 minutes of starting my computer back up from sleep the left half of the screen would flick and become darker than the lower half (about 4 clicks of the light button lower). Sometimes the screen will flick to become even darker than this (but usually it returns to the 4 clicks darker after a short while), and sometimes it returns to normal only to go darker again.

I have a MacBook Pro with the 9600gt in it. Since updating to 10.6.4 this morning 2 times while playing java games i've had the bottom half of my screen go black and most of the top half flicker. I've had to hold in the power button and reset both times. The second time I closed the screen and reopened it, the screen was black but no mouse and nothing moved.
Any advice? Would this be something to do with my graphics card or possibly some error in 10.6.4?Edit:: This is software related to 10.6.4 update and only happens when I open up a java game in a browser.
