each 10-20 sec it shows me this damn "Volleyball" and loads for about 10-15 sec. i can't do a thing :-/This is happening for about 3-4 days now.sometimes it works very well for about 3-5 minutes, but then it slows down again :-/working with skype, itunes, internet browser...nothing works fluent :/itunes stops playing songs while loading.

My 2.2GHz MacBook (3,1) has had an issue for some time now. At first the backlight would flicker as you moved the display from closed to open. The backlight stayed lit through most of the travel. It's gotten progressively worse lately where it will only stay lit at certain angles, and is otherwise black (you can still see the display in sunlight though). Right now it'll only stay lit if I open it very slowly and stop once it lights up.
As I don't have a ton on money to spend, I don't want to just throw parts at it. What could be the issue? Since when it lights up it lights up full brightness and stays lit, I don't think it's an inverter issue. Could it be the inverter board cable?
My gf's late 2008 MacBook ist annoyingly slow. I have 8 tabs open in Safari and when going back and forth between those tabs it gives me the spinning beachball for like 30 seconds. Sometimes it even reloads the whole tab which takes even more time. The whole time I hear the hdd working hard, it's clicking all the time though there are no unsual sounds that would indicate harddrive failure.Â
I checked disk utility it says S.M.A.R.T. is verified. I even used another program (don't remember the name right now) to get a more detailed description of the hdd status, progam says everything's fine. I checked the memory both with the tools provided by Apple and memtest, both say everything is great.  So I asked some Apple Service person what the problem might be, he said if SMART's okay than it's probably the hdd-cable - repair would cost me (or my girlfriend in this case) 60 bucks. Before I shell out the cash I want to double check and see if I can repair the computer myself. My plan is to connect the hdd via usb to see if it's still that slow, but of course the speed of usb itself is limited, so I'm not sure if this is a good idea.Â

I've been following many threads on Mac Rumors for a while and thought I finally post something (hopefully) useful for others and in hopes that I can get a meaningful answer. So please don't flame me if this may be a newbie question... here I go:
So I have a MacBook Pro 2.2 Ghz Late 2007 computer, equipped with a 500GB WD Scorpio Blue HD and 4Gb of RAM. What I do with this computer primarily is graphic design and editing (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Final Cut Pro, etc...) and some amature music production (Reason, Garageband, Djay...)
I've followed the 6gb/8gb RAM upgrade forum for a long while for Mac products and finally bought myself a 6GB upgrade kit from Other World Computing. My package arrived today, and I hate to admit but I'm afraid to upgrade the RAM because of the slight hit/miss ratio I heard about using it. It's usually a good thing to upgrade to something higher I know, but I read that even if I did upgrade, I would only be using about 3GB worth of memory on it and not the full 6GB. Plus, I would lose the dual channel architecture doing this... if that did make a big difference to my heavy use of RAM.
Just today I learned about ExpressCard SSD's and how they can act like a separate HD in themselves. I'm highly interested in a very economical 64GB ExpressCard I researched. They're super fast and sound like a better alternative to RAM upgrading, especially if I can only use a max of approx. 3GB of RAM on my model computer.
So after all of my gibbering and jabber, here's the question:
From your experienced perspective, what's a better option for me to take...
1) Use the 6GB RAM upgrade?
2) Buy an ExpressCard SSD and use memory intensive programs on that?
3) Use the 6GB RAM and buy the ExpressCard SSD together?

I have a late 2008 13in. aluminum MacBook with Mac OS X 10.5.8. It used to run extremely well and software would open immediately but within the last 2 weeks software has been taking a long time to load and will sometimes freeze completely(no beachball) and other times the beachball appears. When it freezes without the beach ball it won't start moving again(I have waited for 20 minutes for it to start moving to see if it was just some incredible lag) so the only option is to push the power off button. Around the same time the internet began slowing down to an insane amount when using a browser(I have tried using both Firefox and Safari since this happened, usually I use Firefox.) to the point it takes 30-40 seconds to open a new web page. It isn't the internet as download speeds are the same as they were prior to the slowdown.
Not sure why this happened as I can't recall any big changes, unless it might be VMWare which I installed to run Windows around then(I don't believe the slow down happened immediately after VMWare install) however its rarely running so I'm not sure if that could be it since it isn't in use and doesn't show up on Activity monitor. Just in case it was VMWare, I put it on my external and deleted it from the computer but there has not been a noticeable difference since then.

I have tried Disk Utility (Verified & Repaired both permissions and normal), and a program called Onyx which I saw a lot of suggestions to use on the Apple site at times like this and nothing shows up as wrong. CPU usage according to Activity Monitor is normal and with a widget that monitors it, it never really goes above 40% and usually hangs out around 18% so I don't believe its that. I would say it was just age except that it just happened suddenly(it was literally from one day to the next).
There are no odd sounds coming from the machine and temperature is the same as it has always been.
I have a Macbook Pro late 2011 all Lion updates applied and want to use the integrated SD Card Reader (which, according to System Profiler is connected directly to the PCIe Bus). Â
My SD card is a brand new Sandisk Extreme Pro, which is rated for 95MB/sec and 90MB/sec write speed. Reading from the card is quite fast, I get over 88MB/sec. Writing, however, is abysmally slow. I could not get more than 12,6MB/sec write speed (tested via transferring a 4GB ISO Image from/to the internal SSD). The same card on an old USB 2.0 reader connected to an ancient PC gives around 20MB/sec. I did not test it on another device with a fast SD reader yet.Â

I had problems with Finder, it just crashed on me when I opened folders that had a bit more files. I have an 24" iMac with v10.5, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I bought it a year ago, add a month or so... So after I got all the glitches with Finder, I transported Applications, Documents, Music, Pictures and some other folders on my desktop to an external Hard Disk, when I finished with ERASE & INSTALL, Finder doesn't crash, but it's VERY VERY slow, for example, in my iTunes Music folder, I have about 560 folders, and when I click SELECT ALL(on the keyboard) it stops for maybe a minute or so, and then I try to copy them to a folder, when i try to drag them, it stops for 2 minutes or so... I haven't even copied much from the external Hard Disk. Except going back to Tiger, is there any other way, because my iMac is...not new, but not old enough to have those glitches... PLEASE HELP ME, this isn't the first time, this is actually my 3rd time doing a reinstall, 2 ARCHIVE AND INSTALL's and 1 ERASE AND INSTALL... what could it be?

DiskWarrior and Tech Tool Pro has failed to resolve the issue. Disc utility repair using the original installation disc hasn't helped either.
Using Preferential Treatment, it appears that ./com.apple.SystemLogin.Items.plist is corrupt (Cannot parse a NULL or zero-length data).
If this is relevant, how can I delete/repair it?
So my mom's G5 (single 1.8) graphics card just pooped out on us.
Lot's of multi-colored lines show up on the screen at the same time and it never boots into OS X. Ran the CD Apple hardware test and the only error i got back was the video memory. So we're thinking about getting a new video card.
It has the factory card still in it and I can't really decide what kind of card needs to be purchased. I've been hunting around the internet and have found numerous conclusions that all seem to differ.
It's basically an AGP 8x slot. We don't need anything fancy just a replacement. There's an auction on ebay right now for the current card (nVidia GeForce FX 5200) but the auction has two in it and we only need one.
but anyway, if anyone could lead me in the right direction i'd really love to get my mom's mac up and running again.

I really love the magsafe connection. It's very easy and handy.The fact that it works with magnetism is nice. Especially when you accidentally trip over the wire. It will release itself from the computer.But now with the macbook air 11.6" the weight is so low that you will pull the computer with it when you trip over the wire.

I had to take this macbook back because the command key broke, the store replaced the computer. When I got home from the store I set-up my new Macbook and upgraded it from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6, same issue with the sleep. When I close the lid, and open it the screen remains black. I can hear the hard drive running, I then have to reboot by pressing the power button.Now here is my question: Do you think the RAM is the issue? The store used that same RAM that was in the previous computer that had sleep issues. Do you think it is the RAM or something else.
