View 1 Replies View RelatedI have one of these Macbooks that I want to pass on to the daughter of a friend for use in college. To try and extend its life and usefulness a little I was wondering if I could add more memory. I'm aware that the Apple tech specs state that 2GB of PC2-5300 DDR2 is the maximum supported, but since I have 2 x 2GB of that memory spare I was wondering if anyone here on the forums know different?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to upgrade HDD for my Macbook and was looking at WD Scorpio Blue 1 TB Internal hard drive. I know its about 2mm thicker than a standard laptop drive and read of people cramming it into MBpros with success.
Has anyone tried a pre-unibody Macbook?
I have this Late 2006 Macbook, that still runs great and everything, but the only problem iv been running into, is video. So when i watch a video in QuickTime Player, or QuickView, or even YouTube, the video just randomly starts to flip out. So, is it possible to upgrade the Graphics Card?

It seems that the xBench results for the new 21.5 iMac (base model) are about the same - and maybe a tad bit lower - than my late 2006 20" 2.16 Ghz iMac (score: 140.8) My Geekbench score is lower - c.2900 - it seems, but not by as much as I thought.
Can this be? Is my machine just as fast as the new base models? I've always found that my 2.16 was a bit pokey, sometimes take 15 secs to launch Entourage or Word and 5-10 secs to launch Safari. Opening documents takes a while as well. I was thinking of upgrading, but these speeds are not encouraging.
My 13-inch Macbook (Late 2008) currently uses the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB graphics card, but I want to upgrade it, so that I can play games at a higher quality. Is this possible? If so, what graphics cards are compatible with my Macbook (Late 2008)?

I am wondering how much memory I can upgrade with my MacBook Pro Late 2011. I went on Apple.com and they only offer up to 8GB of Ram for my model when I looked around and saw that on OWC ( MacSales.com) which is a very excellent reliable source for all your Apple Products. But, I was able to find a 16GB of Ram for my MacBook Pro Late 2011 and it said it can be used for my MacBook Pro.Basically Apple says its only up to 8GB of Ram while I see other people have 16GB of Ram for the same year as mine but the only difference is the the size of the computer. Anybody could give me a answer with this question as I dont want to buy the 16GB of Ram and it not working for my computer. url...

Recently purchased a MBP and find the memory of 4 GB fairly small. Â How would it affect the MBP if I were to change the memory to 8 GB...Ie. will it run faster ?

On my white iMac (Late 2006, 20" C2D 2.16ghz) I've almost filled the puny standard 250MB HD and am planning to have an authorized repair shop replace the drive. (They quoted me $30 plus the cost of the drive -- is that a good price?)Question: what drive should I put in there? I'm planning to go with a 1TB/7200 RPM drive, but can I or should I go bigger? Faster? Which brands to use, or to avoid?

View 10 Replies View Relatedi just bought the imac 21.5 inch with ati radeon 4670 and the base spec. after few hours of playing with this new toy. i realise that when you press the shutdown button, it will put the imac to sleep instead of showing the shutdown/restart option that i have on my macbook. Is there any way to make it work like a macbook power button. secondly, whenever my imac wake up after sleeping, the fan will run faster and automatically went to sleep again. this issue just keep repeating itself. i have no choice but to shutdown the imac and boot up again. Thirdly, i try the machine on WoW and i realise that the sound is rather choppy

I was planning to upgrade our family's computers to a new MBP 13 inch with a 320 HDD and a iMac 3.06 GHz base model.
I was going to do a the Apple financing of no interest for 18 months since the 13 inch MBP came out but after reading online that an iMac update may be out in the near future I am wondering if I should wait.
Would like advice on whether I should just buy the 2 computers now and not worry or should I wait for next iMac. We have five kids that are using the computers and iPhones/iPods and speed is what they want for web-based games. The iBook is fine for me doing Quicken, e-mail and normal stuff but is seizing up sometimes. Hard Drive space is biggest issue since iMac only has around 160 gig HDD.
Everything I have read I believe that these 2 computers will be fine. We hold computers for 5 years and so I am getting to end of life on the ones I have.
My wife has also been using a 2006 circa MacBook Pro 17 inch that I use for work and loves it. She thought the 13 inch MBP keyboard was smaller but I told her I believe they are the same.
how to obtain a bigger memory for my imac so that I can upgrade to OSX LIon and then to icloud? My imac currently has 1 Gb memory and I need 2 Gb apparently. Apple can no longer supply a 2 Gb memory. I will need to knowe hwre to buy a suitable memory and how to change it.

I've got a 27" imac i5, with 4 RAM slots. I do actually have 2x2Gb installed, but that's not enough to run windows 7 smoothly with Parallels.
I would like to upgrade the RAM. Can I buy 1x4Gb now, and add another 1x4Gb later? (short on money at the moment...)
The two original modules are installed in BANK 0/DIMM0 and BANK 1/DIMM0. Should I install the new module in any free slot available?
Another question: is this memory fine?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI turned my computer on in school, and it would not start up past the white screen. I turned it on when I got home, and it gets to the blue screen, and then hangs. I turn it off, and when i turn it back on, the screen flashes and it goes off. I take out the battery and run it off the adapter. It flashes and nothing happens. However, I can hear it churning, but I see nothing on the screen. The sounds are still being made, and they stop after I take out the power cord. I have backups and my new computer that i ordered left week, is on the way.

It's from late 2006, but the RAM (3GB) and HD (Western Digital 595GB) are not original. That said, I'm confident neither of these are the cause, as I've had 'em installed for 2 years and 4 months, respectively. The problem: I press the power button. Computer makes the starting sound. Fan whirs on. Grayish-blue screen with Apple logo. Spinning tick wheel underneath. You know the drill. But then, it just suddenly and inexplicably turns off. Fan off, black screen, no HD activity. Nothing. Aaand repeat...nothing seems to change.
This started 10 minutes ago. I'm on a friend's computer now, since I'm at college - this also means that I do not have my installation DVD or indeed any of my wide array of computer-fixing tech components save for my mini screwdriver set. Since I know it's gonna come up - The last thing I did on the computer was shut it down while it installed the latest update for Safari (which I don't use). Seemed everything was going okay - it turned off and I left for dinner, came back all set to write an essay and the darn thing won't make it to the login screen. So naturally, there are no error messages or anything like that. No weird beeps or noises from the HD or elsewhere........................
I've got a late 2006 MacBook Pro and installed the Wireless N enabler a while back. I've got Snow Leopard now, and the card still reads as N capable in both Network Utility and System Profiler. I've sometimes been able to connect at N speeds, but not always. For example, right now I'm on my office's wireless network. Another guy has a MacBook Pro (a year newer than mine so it shipped with N enabled), but I can only get 54 speeds, while he can get 130. Any ideas? Could it just be a router setting? I option+clicked on the AirPort menu item and took a screenshot. My coworker is also on Channel 6, at 2.4GHz
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 13" MacBook (White 2.0GHz/1 GB/80 GB) that will not boot. I've tried the troubleshooting tips on the Apple website to no avail. When I turn it on, the light on the front stays light, I can hear the HD spin up, etc. The screen flickers as if it is getting power, but no chimes or sounds whatsoever. I've also tried to reseat RAM, used different RAM, but no dice. I'm hoping that there are a few other things I can try before I'm left with getting a new logic board.
