MacBook Pro :: Late 2011 Sd Card Write Extremely Slow
May 26, 2012
I have a Macbook Pro late 2011 all Lion updates applied and want to use the integrated SD Card Reader (which, according to System Profiler is connected directly to the PCIe Bus). Â
My SD card is a brand new Sandisk Extreme Pro, which is rated for 95MB/sec and 90MB/sec write speed. Reading from the card is quite fast, I get over 88MB/sec. Writing, however, is abysmally slow. I could not get more than 12,6MB/sec write speed (tested via transferring a 4GB ISO Image from/to the internal SSD). The same card on an old USB 2.0 reader connected to an ancient PC gives around 20MB/sec. I did not test it on another device with a fast SD reader yet.Â

So i just got my macbook air today, and im loving it. The only problem is that the internet on this thing is SLOW. I have pretty decent internet at home, both my pc and macbook pro (2007) is fine. But on the MBA, a normal website takes minutes before being completely loaded. I just tested all my computers on speedtest.net, and my mbp was able to get 11.86download and 0.84upload, while my MBA get 0.45download and 0.15upload Is anyone else getting this problem?

I just dropped in a WD Scorpio 7200 320GB drive in my mid-2009 mbp. I successfully cloned my previous drive. It took forever to boot the first time and every subsequent time. It takes hours to install the os fresh after wiping it. Not at all how I expected the swap to go. What do you all think? Swap it out for another because this one is a bad egg?
I have done a guid partition and it is formatted in mac os x extended and journaled.
When i boot from my old drive, now in a usb enclosure, everything is fine. However when I access the new internal drive it hangs and just doesn't play well with it at all.

So when I use internet to connect to my WiFi connection, the speeds are at dial-up levels. My MacBook is almost right next to the router. After plugging ethernet in to it, it's going as fast as DSL should be.. 10-15x faster than it is over wireless. I understand that wired is always a little faster, but the difference shouldn't be this drastic. What should I do?

I have had my Macbook Air for a little more than 2 years. It has always worked pretty well. However, recently I went on vacation for 1 week without my laptop. When I returned home and went to turn on my computer, I noticed that it had become extremely slow. Firstly, turning on my computer has become an abnormally long process. It used to take about 2-3 minutes to turn on. Now, it takes a solid 10 minutes. Not only this, but once my computer has finally turned in, it usually takes another 10 minutes before I can open an internet browser. When I click on the browser (I used Google Chrome) no window will pop up, and after a few more clicks, my screen will freeze completely. Sometimes I will get the rainbow wheel and sometimes the screen just completely freezes without it. Sometimes I will try closing the lid of my computer and then reopening it, but when I do this, the screen stays black for a long period of time even after I have reopened it, almost as if the computer is off. After an excessive amount of key smashing and an abnormally large amount of time, the screen will finally stop being in sleep mode and show my desktop. Even then, my computer will still barely work. Once I finally get a window open and start using the internet, google chrome will end up crashing within at least 20 minutes. The entire screen will freeze, I won't be able to scroll down or exit out of the window, and I then usually have to repeat the painful process that I described above when I attempt to open my browser.
It has been over a week since I returned from vacation, and I deal with these issues every time. My computer has always been fine in the past, why is this suddenly happening? I have tried to remove some of my applications my going into Finder and highlighting the application and clicking Move to Trash, and then emptying the trash. This hasn't helped at all. Do you think that it would help to delete some of my files and data (pictures, documents, screenshots, downloads, ect) or is this irrelevant? Â

Up until about two weeks ago my MBP was idling around 35-40 c. NOW all of a sudden is is idling areound 65 c!!! I can boot my machine after being off for hours and in a matter of minutes the temperature will rise. I do not play games, and the most video card strain I put on it is an occasional you tube video. I had smcfan control installed but deleted it because seeing the temperatures up there on the monitor started freaking me out. It wouldn't matter if I ran the fan at 5000+ rpm, it would not cool it down. Should I schedule an appt with the Apple store? It is less than 5 months old.

I am wondering how much memory I can upgrade with my MacBook Pro Late 2011. I went on Apple.com and they only offer up to 8GB of Ram for my model when I looked around and saw that on OWC ( MacSales.com) which is a very excellent reliable source for all your Apple Products. But, I was able to find a 16GB of Ram for my MacBook Pro Late 2011 and it said it can be used for my MacBook Pro.Basically Apple says its only up to 8GB of Ram while I see other people have 16GB of Ram for the same year as mine but the only difference is the the size of the computer. Anybody could give me a answer with this question as I dont want to buy the 16GB of Ram and it not working for my computer. url...

In january 2012 i received MacBook Pro as gift from my brother. MacBook works fine, untill yesterday, when turned off automatically. When i tried to turn it on again, nothing happened. I tried with resetting SMC, PRAM, NVRAM, but that doesn't help at all. Â
I thought it was battery, so i opened it, disconnected battery, and when i plugged in MagSafe, MBP automatically switched on. When i shutdown MBP via shutdown button inside OSX, everything went fine, but when i pushed Power On button on MBP, it won't turn on again. So, i tried to replug again MagSafe, and MBP powered on again automatically. When i plugged back battery again, it won't power on, even with MagSafe "trick". Â
I live in Serbia, and in my country, there is no AppleStore :/ To make it worse, since my brother moved to another city, he lost warranty, so we don't have it What should i do? MBP is old only 6 months

I just bought a late 2011 17" MBP with 4GB RAM (standard).Having upgraded to Adobe CS6 I am finding the machine impossibly slow, so I figure I need more RAM. Apple says max = 8GB (2x4), but Crucial Memory recommend 16GB "guaranteed compatible". I'm now quite unsure: can I really put 16GB in? Are Apple wrong? If Crucial have sold loads of 16GB kits that can't be used, surely they'd have taken it off their website? Can anyone confirm whether I can put 16GB (i.e. you've actually done it successfully).I'm running Lion 10.7.4

I'm an amateur photographer, and numerous blogs suggest it's necessary to calibrate computer monitors. My old macbook probably needs it - 2007 - but an art director friend of mine says recent macbooks no longer need it. Any thoughts on this board which is the case?

This ended up being pretty long but I tried to include as many details as possible. If any more information is needed please just let me know in this thread. I have been trying to figure this out all day and it has been driving me nuts. First of all I have a Macbook with a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4 GB of RAM and am running Mac OS X Version 10.5.6. Also this is the last generation of the "white" macbook that came out in February I believe of last year.
My external HD is a 1TB Rock Mobile Disk. For some reason when I try to transfer files to or from the external HD to my Mac I am getting nowhere near the expected 480MB/s. I do use a Swiss Gear 4-port USB splitter. When I use the splitter I am getting a transfer rate of about 120MB/s and without it I am only getting about 300MB/s. This is of course if I am only trying to transfer one 800MB movie. If I attempt to transfer multiple seasons of television shows it will drop to as low as 40-50MB/s. Also, if I were to be transferring a single season of a TV show. The transfer speed is much faster to click and drag every episode from my HD to my Mac than it is to transfer the entire folder at once. The whole folder might take 25 minutes but one at a time it will only take about 5.

My Macbook pro has recently (a few weeks now) been giving me trouble. When I connect my charger a few things happen.
1. The chargers "brick" is extremely hot. (Note: this can usually be solved by placing the brick on a hard surface rather than a soft one).
2. My computer becomes extremely hot (Note: placing on hard surface sometimes allows computer to cool down, but not for long).
3. The part of my charger that connects to the port on my macbook is ridiculously hot.
4. A light hissing sound comes from my my computer where the charger is connected 5. My computer is very slow to charge and sometimes doesn't charge at all Â
All of this seemed like an easy fix: get a new charger. However, I've used other chargers (from people who have absolutely no issues of their own with them) and I still have the same problems

Friday afternoon my Mac froze and after powering down and restarting, it has been extremely slow. Before now it was running perfectly. Now, it takes about 20 minutes to start up and then about another 20 minutes to load the dock and another 20 minutes to open an app, etc. It's impossible to use. I get the loading wheel between every word I type. Â
After running in safe mode/repairing hard drive/etc. nothing had changed. So I just decided to backup all of my stuff and try to restore it to factory settings. I erased the hardrive and set up my computer again. It's still running the same way though. Extremely slow, impossible to use. I'm running on Mavericks 10.9.3. Is there anything I could do or could this be something like a failing hard drive? Â
I bought my mac about 8 months ago. I already made an appointment at the genius bar for tomorrow night but I would really really rather not have to go.

I am trying to boot into the Apple Hardware Test by holding down the "D" key right before the gray startup screen appears. My mac will stay on the gray screen but will never boot into the hardware tests. If I let go of the "D" key the mac will boot as normal.Â
These instructions are per Apple's support article. My mac did not ship with any discs or recovery mediaÂ

I know - or think I recall - that there was a user's tips article on maximizing battery life. When I'm outdoors with my MBP, I always have Photoshop CS6, InDesign CS6, Illustrator CS6, Acrobat Pro X, Parallels Desktop, MS Word and maybe a few 'little' apps running. I need these to get my projects done. I can usually get about 3 1/2 hours out of my battery but if I could get 5, I'd be happy.Â
Can anyone point me in the right direction for the most current (at least 2011) user tip on the topic?
