Software :: Finder Icon Missing From Dock / Replaced The .icns Files
Aug 18, 2010I recently changed my Finder icon by replacing the .icns files in my CoreServices folder. The icon appears as it should in dialog boxes, but doesn't show up at all in the Dock. Instead there's just a blank space where it's supposed to be. It's still perfectly functional, but annoying. :-S
I've tried logging out/restarting, reseting the dock, deleting the dock plist, and creating a new user account (it's still missing on the new account). I'm running out of things to try, does anyone have a suggestion?

Jun 25, 2009I bet it's dead simple. So I'm going to before I even read the replies. I have changed icons before by pressing Apple + i on an App and the same on another icon then copying the icon's preview onto the other App.
But never used .icns

don't tell me the "copy & paste" thing because, the iconfile doesn't have itself as icon

OS X :: Getting Default ICNS Image When Trying To Change Folder Icon?
Jun 7, 2009Tried a search but not be lucky so hoping someone out there has solved this one before.....
Been trying to change some of the default icons Apple provide with third party .icns files by opening the folder info window in finder by using the 'get info' command, then clicking the icon in the top left hand corner (so it is has the tiny blue halo) and then edit-paste in the new icon. Sometimes it works (have changed some successfully) but now when I try, instead of the pasted icon displaying the icon image, I get the generic or default icon image for an icns icon displayed, see the screen grab attachment for what I mean
Can anyone advise me as to whats not working correctly?

Oct 20, 2009I have downloaded an icon i want to apply to a file and i have it in png, icns and ico format. When i click on the image in the get info window and paste in the file, it just shows the default .png/.icons/.ico image. How can i make it work properly, showing the actual image itself.

I will post a bug report to Apple if anyone here can confirm this.
I have personally confirmed this with several MacBooks and on 2 Airport Expresses + a 3rd Party WiFi Access point. It used to work between all of them in 10.6.4.

May 29, 2007So I got a BW 350 new back in 1999 and immediately OCed. I tried OCing it to 450 and it didn't work. I tried 400mHz and everything worked fine, its been that way ever since.
The BW has served me very well and I have since maxed the RAM and put a Radeon 7000 GPU into it and was using it as a TV media computer. It was working ok/good and so I thought I'd try to OC it again to 450 to see if I could get it working and squeeze a bit more juice out of it. God what a stupid idea.
It wouldn't work at 450 so I set it back to 400, it wouldn't work!!! Even back at 350 it won't work. God I can't believe I did this. I don't have the original block of jumpers that came with the computer (I know what box its in, but just can't find it).
Would replacing all the jumpers give it a chance at life again?
OS X :: Widgets Broken / Get Them To Work?
Nov 24, 2008Just setting up my new MBP and have an odd problem with the widgets in that none of them 'work'. I can drag them onto the dashboard OK but they don't actually function and if I try to close them dashboard crashes and I get dumped back to my desktop .. screenshot attached.

Sep 11, 2009I have a Mac Pro 1.1 and I've been successfully running a flashed XFX ATi 4870 card for a month or so.
Yesterday evening I left my computer in sleep mode, when I came back it appeared to be awake with only one of the two screens working and everything frozen. Both screens were connected to an Apple ATi 2600 XT and nothing was connected to the 4870.
I held down the power button and restarted, the fans on the graphics cards ramp up and then down as usual and the computer makes the startup dong noise. I can hear the hard drives and optical drives working as usual then the drives appear to shutdown and I'm left with the computer apparently doing nothing.
- Fans are running
- Screens are in standby (LED's on)
- Both screens are connected to the ATi 2600
- 2 x 20in Apple Cinema Displays
- Nothing is connected to the ATi 4870
- No LEDs are lit up inside the case
Once I remove the ATi 4870 the computer starts up normally, putting the 4870 back in give the same startup problem.
Is there anything I can do to get the 4870 working again?

Dec 21, 2009so I was doing the ironing and watching a movie on my macbook and when I was done and clearing stuff up the ironing board thing kinda folded in half and my laptop dropped to the floor with a loud thud (onto a wooden floorboard)Basically the screen looks like when you break a glass window but it hasn't fallen apart, you just see loads of cracks at the point of impact...I have an apple care thing, but will this be covered under the guarantee or something? The laptop is over 1 year old and otherwise any idea how much it will cost, etc?Furthermore, will I be able to recover all my documents and stuff on it?

May 10, 2009I've got a PDF document (actually, several PDF documents, but for a single purpose) that contains information on various points in music with links to examples that should play when clicked.The problem is, when I click on the links, nothing happens.They are in a folder just beneath the folder that contains the PDFs and I can easily Spotlight for them and run them, but would prefer clicking on the link and getting them to run by themselves.Is there anything I can do to make the links load themselves?BTW - I'm opening the PDF in Preview. Links to pages seem to work fine, it's just the links to the music examples that don't seem to work. Should I be using Acrobat Reader instead?

May 30, 2012After Updating to 10.7.4 my mbp 2011 is experiencing many problems with the pre installed applications. Itunes, and App store, safari and even Software update all crash within seconds of been launched. .There is more, but decided not to post it unless its neccesary. Things I have tried already:
- Installed the combo update 10.7.4
- Verified disks: They are all good
- Installed a fresh update of itunes
- Checked for Flashback virus, and even installed java 2012 - 003.

Dec 5, 2014FIX MAC MAIL Mac Mail just plain fails for me on connections to my mail server. I spent 2 days trying to make it work, maybe longer. I finally had to move to a 3rd party mail provider.. both Postbox and Airmail connect and work beautifully. I liked some of the features in Mac Mail and would like to go back to it. But it needs to actually work. I am familiar with email setup and host my own email server. I'm trying to use IMAP with my desktop mail, but all attempts at connection fail from some reason, either smtp or imap fails, and sometimes it's random. On trying Postbox and Airmail, connection was automatic and correct and has not failed since setup. IMO, the connection model for Mac Mail is impaired.

MacBook Pro :: Logic Board Is Broken?
Sep 1, 2010Some of you probably will remember my post a week ago, saying that my MBP DVD drive killed my OSX Installation DVD. here is the conclusion of it, I took it authorised service center here in North Thailand. Waited for a week they sad they will change DVD drive and today it finally arrived. Around 11am they called me and said dude, we changed the drive the problem is still there cant install system. Your "Logic Board' is screwed, you have to wait at least 1 week for a new one.
Now what is logic board? Is that main board? Is it possible for computer to still work with a broken mainboard? I mean I didnt damage it, I had kernell panic and tried to re-install OSX so how could that killed my MPB? I still could boot into disk utility and format the drive was just unable to copy files.To be honest my MBP is 3 months old, i took a good care of it. And I'm very very very dissapointed in apple computers now, expensive and damn un-reliable.

Unfortunately, when I stick a coin into the battery release latch on the underside of the computer, it just keeps turning around without ever releasing the battery. Therefore I'm guessing it's broken, and the battery is stuck in there. What do I do now? Can I take it to a Genius bar?

When we open the PC excel file on our Macs, none of the hyperlinks work ... then if we save something to the file, when the PC guys open the file, none of the hyperlinks work for them anymore either. We really want to be able to use Excel and not have to use VMware in order to update our file on the Mac. Any thoughts??

Oct 10, 2006Its been going for a while now and finally the right channel of audio has fully cut out from the headphone jack. This is a huge bummer. I mean the laptops 3 years old so its not to bad. I mean its taken a beating over the years. Its just that I use it to listen to music and audio out for watching dvds, so its no good for that anymore. I have an external audio card but thats no good for when I am mobile and I use the laptop all over the place. Is there a way to fix this or would it need a whole logic board replacement? Can I use a audio card that fits into those card slots on the left hand side of the Powerbook. What are those cards called again?
