OS X Yosemite :: Mac Mail Broken

Dec 5, 2014

FIX MAC MAIL Mac Mail just plain fails for me on connections to my mail server.  I spent 2 days trying to make it work, maybe longer. I finally had to move to a 3rd party mail provider.. both Postbox and Airmail connect and work beautifully.  I liked some of the features in Mac Mail and would like to go back to it. But it needs to actually work. I am familiar with email setup and host my own email server. I'm trying to use IMAP with my desktop mail, but all attempts at connection fail from some reason, either smtp or imap fails, and sometimes it's random.  On trying Postbox and Airmail, connection was automatic and correct and has not failed since setup. IMO, the connection model for Mac Mail is impaired.

OS X Yosemite :: Accessing IMessage On Mac With Broken IPhone

Dec 6, 2014

Yesterday my iPhone abruptly shut off. I thought it was dead but when I plugged it in it said it had battery. Now it will only turn on when I have it plugged into the wall and if I unplug it it'll immediately shut down. Also when it turns on it won't connect to Wifi and cellular service just says "Searching..." so its essentially useless. I'm wondering if theres a way to get my messages on iMessage on my Mac if I don't have it connected to my number yet and I can't access my phone to connect them.

OS X Yosemite :: Mail Couldn't Discover Account Settings For Mail Server

Dec 1, 2014

I've added a Google Apps account to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 few weeks ago to use it in Mail, but I removed it last week. I tried adding it back during the weekend, but I've been getting this error: "Mail couldn't discover the account settings for the Mail server domain"

This comes after I click "Set Up" and tick Mail only. I don't have 2 step verification enabled for that account and I didn't change any account settings since adding it last time.

Also, I can still see the account (as well as other Google account that's currently not added to OS X) in Accounts.plist located in: ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData

IMac (Intel) :: Moving Mail From Broken MBP To New - Permissions Error Persists

Jun 28, 2014

My Macbook Pro from 2007 won't boot anymore, turns out to have NVIDIA GPU problem. It ran on Snow Leopard, but I can't enter it anymore to upgrade. I'm trying to move mail to my new Imac and have a TM backup on the desktop of it. I followed this [URL]..... Mail folder and plist are now copied in the same locations, new original Mail folder is parked on desktop because I didn't dare 'fuse' the two, let alone replace it with my old mail folder.

When opening the Mail app. I get the permissions message that I should set 'read and write' permissions on the Mail folder, but it says the info Mail wants to use is in the mail folder in the Backup folder, although I provided it with a copy in its own Library. The permissions via show info were ok, but I redid them and still the error keeps popping up.

Questions:

Why won't it use the folder from its own library?

Could this be because my previous version is too old?

I can't enter my mail or mail addresses, years of data there..

OS X Yosemite :: Why Outgoing Mail Can't Be Sent

Nov 30, 2014

My mail server is Aol and I get my mail ok through the mail application but when i try to send it it comes back and says it can't be sent.  I eventually am able to send it using gmail but it only occasionally goes out using aol.   It's not an aol issue because when I go online to aol I don't have this issue.  I suppose it's something in my settings but I can't figure it out.

Upgraded to Yosemite, Mac Mail now quits unexpectedly.

I have 2 email accounts, one POP, one IMAP.

If I disable the IMAP account, all is good.

When I enable the IMAP account, mail crashes.

I've tried reindexing, and now I'm getting the following error:

Is there a way to just RESET mail?  Or even re-install the OS?

OS X Yosemite :: Mail Labels Appear As Text

Dec 8, 2014

I'm using Classic Layout in Mail.app - in the message list the column "Flag" shows all flags/labels as text, i.e. instead of an orange flag icon it shows "Orange". This is rather strange and uses too much space in the list - is there a way to change to icon view? In Mavericks it shows a coloured flag icon.

I tried to find a menu command or Mail.app preference to change this, but couldn't find one. Not sure but I think in OS X 10.10.0 Mail.app showed flag icons; I have OS X 10.10.1 installed.

OS X Yosemite :: 10.10 / Mail Drop Not Working

Dec 5, 2014

So i wanted to send a 600MB file via mail drop, but when I dragged the file onto the mail window and hit send, instead of the window asking me if I wanted to send it via mail drop, it just started sending it. Now I have a slow connection and don't want to spend the next 90 minutes uploading something that cannot be downloaded, never mind clogging up my internet connection.

Incidentally, in trashing the uploading file in Mail's Outbox to stop it, I can see the upload still continues as my network stats show full upload speed. Had to restart.

OS X Yosemite :: Mail Account Settings Not Right

Dec 11, 2014

Have MacPro with dual-boot. Snow Leopard, which I'm using right now, and Yosemite, which I'm setting up and trying out. Mail is a particular issue.

I would like to have the Yosemite mail set to "mail.comcast.net" but there is no real way to do so.

When I put in my e-mail address and Comcast password, it automatically sets up an imap account, which I do not want.

I want the system to pull ALL messages off the server when I collect my mail, and store NOTHING on the Comcast mail servers.

Snow Leopard does this (of course, it's a POP account I set up) but the fine Apple developers seem to think I want to 'keep my devices synchronized' so Yosemite's Mail program chooses imap for me.

I had the test set to pull down all the messages and it did, on the imap account, so ostensibly when I rebooted into 10.6 there should have been nothing left on the server for the mail to collect - but there's all of today's messages and the junk mail waiting to be pulled down - so obviously the IMAP isn't emptying the server when I collect mail.

HOW do I get Yosemite Mail to let me setup my Comcast account on the POP settings? I checked on the Advanced settings for the Internet Accounts but it makes you set up the password *first* so goes out and checks, then automatically loads the wrong account type.

Do I take the computer offline so it cannot automatically set itself up, then enter the account info?

OS X Yosemite :: Mail Won't Open When Clicked?

Dec 1, 2014

I tap on the Mail Icon in the Dock, Mail doesnt Open, quite often there is what appears to be a Mail Window opening but it disappears as quick as it arrives.

The only way I can Open Mail is to lightly double tap my mouse pad, which pops up a menu from the Mail icon, there is often a list of previously opened Mail windows, I can often select one these, but only the one showing a Black 4 sided Diamond shape opens a Mail window, if it is blank or has a Tick, it doesnt open at all.

Failing that I have to select Open New Viewer window

[URL] ... See image above, this may explain easier my problem, normally MAIL should open by tapping the Mail Dock Icon, I just did that , it did nothing, zilch.

instead I have to often SELECT "New Viewer Window", other times I get by, by selecting one of the recently opened Windows with a Black shape next to it !!

OS X Yosemite :: Why Mail 8.1 Running At 400% CPU Usage

Dec 2, 2014

Why Mail is running at 400% cpu usage while trying to download an email?  I have an Apple email account and Exchange account set up with Mail.  I never ran into any problem with Mavericks but after upgrading to Yosemite, Mail now frequently runs up to 400% any time it is open.  The problem only occurs when Mail is trying to get a message from the server, although it does not hang on every email, only certain ones that I can see in the 'Activity' Window.  I've already tried to delete the accounts and restart from scratch.  Now my co-worker just upgraded to Yosemite is experiencing the exact same problem on his macbook.  The only way to temporarily fix the problem is to delete that specific email message Mail is trying to get from the server.  It will be fine until it hangs on another email later on.  The program is still usable but will drain the battery in less than an hour just for having Mail open.  Now I only open Mail when I want to check emails if I'm on battery only, then immediately close it.
