Let's say I pick Song A manually, it finishes and moves on to Song B. 10 songs after Song B, if I manually select A, all those songs play in the exact same order. The only thing that changes the order is restarting iTunes.
View 9 RepliesWhen I set the shuffle mode on my iMac or iPod I get a different start track each time I restart but when I try on my MacBook it always reverts to the same start track. I've tried looking in Preferences but cannot find anything relevant.

I've tried everything to get it to shuffle even resorting to reinstalling it. I've tried everything and even came up empty handed after Googling it.
I've tried changing the settings from shuffling from songs to albums or groupings, but nothing works. It seems like such a small problem, when really it's very cumbersome to deal with.
Oh and I use iTunes 8.
i noticed that i was actually listening to the same songs every time i started the shuffle mode from a song.

But when I'm listening to music for my own personal enjoyment, I don't exactly want "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" to come up. Is there a way to keep certain checked songs from playing when in shuffle mode? I mean, besides creating a new playlist with everything BUT the 20 or so songs I have for my daughter.

When I turn on the shuffle feature and I have a column selected (number, rating, etc), all it does is rearrange the songs. it's not a real shuffle because I can still see which song is coming next (ie, songs 1, 2, and 3 might become 3, 1, and 2, but they'll still play in that order). When I turn on the shuffle feature without any column being selected, nothing happens. even though the shuffle button is blue, the songs in the playlists play in their exact order. the shuffle only seems to work properly when im playing music out of the entire music library, not one playlist.

For an unknown reason, iTunes button and menu controls for shuffle, repeat, back and next have stopped working. I have iTunes 10.6.3 on a MacBook Pro (early 2008) running Lion (10.7.4). I have made sure software is up to date and have restarted the computer and software more than once to no avail.

Quite bizarrely, in iTunes 10, shortcuts to skip next song (command - right arrow) or adjust volume (command - down arrow/up arrow) don't appear to work in shuffle (iTunes DJ). The shortcuts work fine in every other playlist other than iTunes DJ.

Both my MacBook Pro and iPhone were set up to shuffle all songs, but in the past they seem to have played an awful lot of repeats without playing different music all the time! Now I just updated the software and re-synced and can't even set up shuffle on the phone any more. Clicking on the crossed and uncrossed arrows on each side of the phone doesn't do anything. Shaking just shuffles inside the album playing.

I've recently noticed some strange behavior in my dock - occasionally, after doing something related to system startup (startup, wake from sleep, etc.) I'll notice the dock starts to shuffle/slide around like a new program is opening itself up - except nothing ever does. It seems like whatever is trying to open quits itself before the icon can appear on the right end of my permanent dock icons.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently moved from PC to iMac, and I can't sync all of my music from my shuffle to the Mac. There's one tune that I copied from a CD that is now kaput. Is there a way to move the good version from my shuffle to my iMac? When I try to play the track from iTunes, I get a message similar to this: "The song 'xx' could not be used because the orignial file could not be found. Would you like to locate it." I tried "manually manage music" but I couldn't make that work. Everything else threatens to sync with my iMac iTunes which will wipe out what I want to keep. Oddly, iTunes has done this to a large number of my tracks almost all from CD's I own, rather than from compilations people have given me. So, to redo my iTunes list I will need to reinsert lots of CD's.

this might sound like a daft question, but it's just started to annoy me.
i've just got into using smart playlists, and love em. I've got one just containing the band name 'minus the bear', and it puts all the albums i have in album order and will shuffle through different tracks.
but now for some reason when i click shuffle it re arranges all the tracks in the playlist. i know its abit ocd, but i liked have all my tracks in order. then if i want a specific track on i can find it easily, and then just let it shuffle after that.
i don't know how i had it like that before, but does anyone know how to get it back how i want it?
What is the easiest and most simple way to start a slideshow of some pictures, in a random order?Is there a free app or app for it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI got a brand new 4th Generation Ipod Shuffle. When I connect it (USB) to my Mac mini (2008), the wired aluminum Mac USB keyboard no longer responds. Disconnecting the shuffle returns the keyboard to normal function. I have Snow Leopard (10.6.8), iTunes 10.6.1(7). Is this a limitation of the Mac mini? Do some of the USB ports "share" power, and will isolating the Shuffle to an unshared port resolve this? (I don't know which might be shared...)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using a 15" MacBook Pro Santa Rosa (mid 2007), 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 6 GB memory, with a 240GB OWC Mercury Extreme Pro SSD (15 months old). Lion 10.7.3. Computer doesn't boot into Safe Mode AND also if it "goes to sleep by itself" (I don't touch it for a while, then it falls asleep) after some time when I try to wake it up I get the Spinning Ball of Death or a black screen and the only thing I can do is press the power button for some seconds to power off. It wakes up OK if I, either close the lid or Apple icon-> Sleep.
WHEN TRY TO BOOT INTO SAFE MODE: Immediately after the startup chime I press the Shift key, after 2-3 seconds get the login window, key in my password. Instead of logging in, it goes to a screen with the Apple icon, underneath it, the Apple spinning gear and underneath that a loading bar. After quite some time the loading bar disappears, the gear goes on spinning for a LONG time, then black screen, startup chime again and login window. Then, when I key in my password, it just logs in as usual, no safe mode.
I tried to write in Terminal “sudo nvram boot-args="-x"”, BIG mistake! It got my computer into a loop of those screens. I don’t exactly remember what eventually got me out of this loop (I think I booted from a clone, then started with the Lion CD and wrote back “sudo nvram boot-args=""” in Terminal. Also set up an additional administrator account but all was the same. Tried verify/repair disk, everything OK. Eventually I erased completely the HD (not Recovery HD) reinstalled Tiger, Snow Leopard and Lion again, downloaded all applications/software/programs I had, from scratch and only copied the data from a backup, being sure that after that all problems will be over, but... everything like it was, no "normal sleeping" and no SM booting.

Powebook G4 won't boot up. Safe mode doesn't work. Reset pram. Went onto single user mode. At first there was a modification and then I ran it a second time until it said HD was ok.

my mbp i7's double tap doesn't save when i set it to a certain "double-click speed" so when i put my mbp to sleep or restart it, i'm forced to go back to the settings and set my double-click speed again. The point of me doing this is because for some reason, my double-click doesnt register or hi-light the text in the URL or text in essays etc. when its set up to the fourth notch on the slide bar. so i have to put it down to 0 on the bar in order for my double tap to register. Its really annoying to have to redo this every time i come back to my mbp.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst thing to say is that the G4 starts fine (remarkably quickly in comparison with the new iMac) and appears to run okay. However, on running the disk utility I’ve found that there is a problem with the hard drive and it won’t verify either the hard drive or repair the permissions. Like many of its kind the optical drive has failed and therefore I can’t use the installation CD to reinstall or anything else. My daughter has been using the G4 for some years but has upgraded to MBP and wants me to take her files and put them on another hard drive and then wipe the G4 clean. At the moment the disk utility will not work at all. So I’ve been attempting to start it up in TDM via FireWire. The G4 starts up okay in TDM (the FireWire symbol appears on the screen) but there is no sign of it on the new iMac. In the light of what I’ve said so far does it seem probable that I will ever be able to get the start-up disk to work? I have connected the two computers via a Wi-Fi network and have been able to see the disc but when I have run the disk utility it has always reverted back to the G4’s own program.

After using my MacBook Pro I close the laptop and it goes to sleep. Later when I return to it and open it, sometimes it can't find the network. The computer is able to see that I have an Apple Network available, but it won't connect.Sometimes when I try to connect, it gives me a timeout. How I fix it is to walk over to the router and unplug it and plug it back in. After I get the green light again, I go to the Apple Network and it works.

So a week ago I opened Photoshop and my macbook froze and gave me this screen:
I had to force it to shut down, and when I turned it back on, I'd get the chime, I'd see the logo and the spinning cog, then it would go to a white screen and either stall or shut itself off... I tried resetting the PRAM and SMC. I went into Disk Utility and verified the disk and the permissions. I also reset Photoshop's preferences, and completely reinstalled it. Booting in safe mode worked, but of course it's a little slow and I can't use some programs. I was able to start up normally by booting in single user mode and running the /sbin/fsck -fy command a couple times.
I ended up taking it to a Genius Bar, they ran a couple diagnostic tests and confirmed it wasn't a hardware issue and it was probably the OS. They reinstalled Snow Leopard, I restored my stuff with my Time Machine backup, and everything worked fine for a couple days.
But today when I turned it on, it shut itself down again! And running single user mode doesn't work anymore. It'll say "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK." and when I reboot, it shuts down at the white screen. Now the only way it will boot up is in safe mode, and if I close the lid to put it in sleep mode, it'll turn itself off after a few minutes.
I'm not incredibly tech savvy, but I'm wondering if it could be a third party program. I'm not sure how to find out which one is causing the issue, though... I've uninstalled SMCfanControl and StartupSound.prefpane. Those are the only two I can think of that could potentially mess with the startup...
