Feb 2, 2009
my brother connected my cable box to my computer yesterday to record the superbowl. Anyways, I need to disconnect it and put it where it belongs.
The only problem is that he says it will kernelpanick if I try.
So what do I do? It's just a comcast dvr cable box connected to my iMac with through firewire.

I recently received a late 2007 mac mini as a hand me down from my parents and I'm trying to hook it up to a Sony HDTV via HDMI to DVI cable. I bought the cables I needed and attempted to set it up, however when I turn on the system nothing appears on the display. I've been searching posts and various forums, but haven't really made any progress because most troubleshooting guides are focused upon display problems like pixels and refreshes.
Unfortunately I don't have a VGA monitor to use (which is what the mini was previously used on) to try and see if that works.

When it did show the screen saver the mouse arrow was on the tv and not on the computer and there were no icons to be found on the tv to click on. Right clicking would only bring up the screen for setting the background pictures.

I have satellite TV.. Sky. We are upgrading our package and having Multiroom now which means we will have a box downstairs for our regular satellite and box upstairs which will be able to change channels etc.
Now, I plan on buying an iMac for my bedroom. But I have a decision of buying a LCD TV or using the iMac as a TV as well as a computer. Now it would save me money (as I'm definitely getting an iMac) and I would certainly be happy if it was possible to use the iMac as a TV and hook up the satellite to the TV. Is this possible? If so, please could you direct me to anything I would need to do this?
I was looking into Apple TV, but it just seems to be a Wifi gadget that allows me to watch iTunes movies/music etc on a TV. What I want is clearly different.

I was wondering how I could file share, or make the whole Hard Drive (HDD) accessible to another computer. The two other computers I have are a Toshiba Laptop with Ethernet and USB, and a iMac Intel with Firewire, USB, and Ethernet. Putting these to use along with:Three Ethernet Cables Now how do I get the whole HDD visible to the others computers (either/both) and be able to write to it? Also, I do not want to use CDs and have no CDs that came with the computers. I want to put Xubuntu on the eMac and Debian on the iMacs and erase the rest of the Hard Drives. The computers getting this are the iMac G3s and the eMac G4 in my Signature.

I'm planning on having my imac just sitting on a table with visualizer running full screen and itunes in dj mode while the imac is hooked up to sound system, then I can moniter and control everything from my iphone anywhere in the building but I also want to have it so people can request songs and have them added to the list like remote and dj allows but I think it would be too complicated to have a actual itouch sitting there on the dj screen it'd be much better if I could have another computer sitting next to it in a request mode so people can browse the library and all and request songs like they could on the itouch but do it on a computer instead. I hope I made that understandable.

I currently use the apple bluetooth keyboard with my mac mini setup. It is not on a desk but I use they keyboard in my lap because the mini is hooked to the tv. All I can hear when using it is the battery's rattling around inside the holding tube. Is this normal? If not Im definetly going to the store and have it replaced.

I have a tough one regarding an iMac G5 ALS 17" 2Mhz I am fixing. First I want to point out that I am familiar with the innards of these ancient beasts as I have fixed a couple 1st gen iMac G5 as well as iSights and Duos.
When I plug in the cord in the PSU, the 1st diagnostic LED comes on but when trying to start the computer the second diagnostic LED comes briefly on and then goes off. Nothing else happens, no chimes, nothing. According to Apple KB this is the sign of a faulty PSU. Yet, I have tried replacing the PSU and I get the same result.
Now the weird part is that if I unhook the LCD cable the computer starts normally (it chimes) with the display off. What is most puzzling is that it will start with the inverter hooked up but the LCD display cable off but will not start with the inverter entirely taken off but with the LCD cable on. It seems that it is the LCD itself that prevent the computer from starting. I thought the inverter would draw current but not the LCD itself so it's probably something else.
Anybody had anything similar happen to them? Could it be that the inverter is faly but it only draws when the LCD is hooked? Could it be some kind of short in the LCD or something that make it draw even with the inverter unhooked?

I just hooked up my logitech speakers to my IMac and they don't sound as good as they did on my pc. On my pc there was some settings that were the Realtek that had a bunch of audio options that made it sound much better. Is there anything like that for a mac? I can't find anything like that in the apple menu settings.

I purchased a Q-Drive Q 1TB in Dec for my 24" iMac, purchased it at a Apple Store. I was connected with 800firewire cable, all seemed to be working ok, time machine etc. But in the past month the drive has become a nightmare, it will just disconnect at random. At that point i cannot get it to mount, unless I reboot my iMac. I have tried to connect with 400firewire and usb2, but the same problem persists. Needless to say I am somewhat annoyed, it was not cheap. Anyone have any advice on what I should do, I'm scared to go to G-Tech for support as what I could find appears to be a nightmare. Would I be able to return this to the Apple store that I bought it from?

I'm looking for the best solution to watch Cable TV on my iMac. I searched the forums many times looking for answers and the general consensus was to buy the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid. That's exactly what I did and was extremely disappointed with the quality. In the Elgato preferences, the highest live quality setting available is 720x480, which obviously looks awful when viewing fullscreen. To summarize, I'm looking for a piece of equipment that will allow me to: 1) need to be able to watch live Cable TV and 2) play my Wii on the new 27" iMac. The Hybrid does both but the quality is terrible

Does anyone know of a tried-and-true converter or cable to get a PS3 hooked up to a Mid-2010 27" iMac? I'd like 1080p video and don't need audio as I have a separate set of speakers I'm hooked up to. I know there is one solution out there but haven't heard any reviews as to it actually working or if it's 1080.

Just got my new iMac and I'd love to be able to connect it to my stereo system. I tried a simple 1/8" to RCA cable to connect it, but its a bit quiet and very staticy. I see that the line out jack is also a digital out jack, but I'm a bit confusde as to what kind of cable I actually require here. My stereo has a coaxial digital input I can utilize, but the iMac doesn't seem like it would have the same type of connector, even if is a digital output.

I have a early 2010 27" iMac with a mac mini port. Is there any way I can use it to watch cable tv, inputting it from a cable box. I have heard both yes and no.
I was told at the apple store that the Mac Mini port only exports and that the only way to watch TV on the iMac is through the Internet. Does anyone know for sure?

Will this cable allow me to get 2.0 speed from the keyboard ports or do I have to buy a new extension cable? Also, do other brands of keyboards and mice work with Macs without any issues?

Okay, so I'm using a late 2013 27-inch iMac, Intel Core i5, running OS X 10.10 Yosemite Beta 2. I've usually just used wifi, but decided to make the switch to a wired ethernet connection. Now the Network settings shows no option for ethernet, so I added a new ethernet connection in the settings. I was then met with a "Cable Unplugged" notice. And I have tried everything to fix it. First of all, I've tested 3 different ethernet cables, and none worked, but all three worked on my 2 Macbook Pros, both running 10.10, and there was no problem. I've cleared my PRAM, reset my power, checked that my ethernet pins weren't damaged, and every other suggestion I could find.
