IMac :: Displaying Resolution On External Monitor With Dual Link DVI Cable?

May 4, 2010

I'm in the process of replacing my MBP with an early 2k9 iMac as my DAW machine. I'm shopping around for external monitors, and I'm leaning a 27" monitor that natively displays 2048 x 1152. My question is, if I get a dual link dvi cable- will my iMac be able to display this resolution on an external monitor?

IMac :: IMac Freezes When Connecting External Monitor?

Apr 8, 2008

I have a newer iMac 24" bought in 11/2007. I have the mini-dvi to vga converter and when I connect it to a external tv capable of 1024x768, the iMac freezes and does nothing. I disconnect and the screen turns blue and the flickers back on and everything works. I have made the connection then booted up, and I have tried every resolution all the way down to 640x480, same thing it just locks up the screen, but again as soon as I unplug the mini-dvi to vga cable from the iMac it flicks to a blue screen and everything comes back. I have reviewed dmesg nothing, and revieiw /var/log/messages. Is there any troubleshooting I can do. I am old school unix/linux guy just converted my family to Apple and would like to use the display on my tv to watch my iTunes movies.

MacBook Air :: MBA External Monitor/dvi Cable?

Mar 28, 2009

I hook up a Samsung LCD to my MBA via the Mini DVI cable and everything works great. However, when I unhook the cable (regardless of whether the Mac is on/off), the Mac doesn't pick up that it is now only on a single display, when opening apps (say Firefox), and opens them as if they were on the secondary monitor (so I can only see the very left hand edge). I can't imagine that I would need to minimize or drag the window to the MBA display prior to unplugging the cable, every single time...?

The only work around I have been able to find is drop the display resolution to 8x6 and grab the edge of the window and drag it over. I've tried "Detect Displays", restarting and other "tinkering" to no avail.

MacBook Pro :: Connecting To External Display - Apple Mini Displayport To DVI And DVI To DVI Cable

Oct 7, 2009

I have a presentation tomorrow and need to hook up my MBP to the projector in class. I bought an Apple Mini Displayport to DVI cable, and a DVI to DVI cable. I thought this would be the case, but come to find out the system does not support DVI. So I had to run to Best buy to get a DVI to VGA cable. I tried out the MDP > DVI > VGA rig on my external monitor and got nothing. The screen on my MBP responded by turning blue for a second and then back to normal...but the monitor said "No Signal". Is this some jargon with DVI-D and DVI-I? I need to know by tomorrow morning if I have to run back to the Apple Store and get a Mini Displayport to VGA cable.

MacBook Air :: Connecting MBA With External Monitor?

May 30, 2009

I just got a Samsung 2333sw monitor. When I plug into my 128GB SSD Rev B, it automatically uses the samsung as 2nd monitor. The screen is fully covered.

But when I select mirror (using the samsung as primary screen and turned the brightness of my MBA to the lowest), the samsung LCD picture is not clear and the screen is like 4:3.

Does this means that MBA can't support ext LCD as primary screen at 1080 resolution?

How about for those who has the new Apple 24" Cinema display? Can you use that as primary screen?

Hardware :: Connecting MBP To An External Monitor Possible?

Sep 1, 2009

I've recently bought my first MBP and since I also have a Dell 27' monitor, I'd like to hook the MBP up to the big screen for movies and photo processings.

So given that mini displayport is the only video-out option on MBP and my Dell monitor only has a soundbar speaker (powered by the monitor but not built in), even if I got a mini displayport to HDMI cable (with audio capability) I would still need to connect that soundbar speaker to my MBP via the audio cable to get the sound right?

MacBook Pro :: Error When Connecting The MBP 2010 To An External Monitor

Jun 3, 2010

It was working perfectly the first day I tried. However, when I connected the external monitor to the MBP yesterday, I found that the LCD screen of the external monitor was blinking. It lasted for about 5 minutes and then the problem was gone by itself. I have just reconnected my MBP to the monitor again. The problem reappears. Anybody knows what is going on and how to fix it?

IMac :: What Cable Need To Connect To Dell 30" Monitor

Aug 8, 2010

I did just a bit of searching and found some cable answers but none that I thought fully answers my question, which is two-fold:

1. I am ordering a new 27" iMac but want to connect my Dell 30" monitor as a second monitor. I assume the iMac does not come with the necessary cable, but I'm not sure which one to buy. The Dell monitor is digital with a 2560x1600 resolution.

2. Would that same cable be able to connect a 2010 model Macbook Pro to the new iMac and/or the Dell?

The one area I feel Apple needs help is the multiple monitor situation. For years I have run laptops with 2-3 external monitors... I find myself having to go back to 2 monitors with either setup unless I buy some 3rd party hardware or shell out for a Mac Pro.

MacBook Air :: Air Optimised For Clamshell Mode When Connecting To External Monitor?

Jan 3, 2011

I have used my ultimate 11" on usual mirrored display on battery power and in clamshell mode.

A few hours ago, I was running many apps in mirrored mood and my air just began to lag so badly after an hour. Expose is slow as well as surfing and clicking. I wondered what happened. Then I plug back power supply and close the lid of Air, hence running in clamshell mode. It then returned to full speed.

Please help explain to me if title is true. It is disturbing to learn that plugging into to ext monitor could lag.

MacBook Air :: (10.9.3) Grey Flickering Screen After Connecting To External Monitor

Jun 2, 2014

Recently I connected my macbook air (bought it in 2011, now on Version 10.9.3) with a Panasonic TV (TX-32LM70F) via Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter. After I disconnected the external device, the macbook air's screen still worked normal, but when i restarted it, it was only flickering grey.

I found out that it actually boots normally and i can use it with an external monitor (in fact I am using it right now), but that the built-in macbook screen simply doesn't work anymore.

I tried to restart while connected and while disconnected to an external screen, I have reset the SMC Controller, I have reset the PRAM Controller, but it hasn't changed.

This is actually the second time something like this happenend (it was another external device i connected it to), and last time, about a few weeks ago, it just worked again after a few days for no reason, all i did was wait until all energy was gone from the battery and the reload it. So might it be a battery problem? Or is it some controller i don't know? It was the same phenomenon two times: connect to external monitor - disconnect - built-in screen still works - restart - built in screen only flickers grey - macbook still boots and works fine with the very external monitor that might have caused the problem.

IMac :: Media Setup - Connecting HD Monitor And Xbox 360

Jun 22, 2010

Here's my idea on a setup when I move into my garage. Xbox 360 connected to iMac 27" with a Kanex XD HDMI to Mini DisplayPort adaptor. A FreeView box also connected via HDMI though the Kanex XD adaptor using a HDMI switch. Or instead of the FreeView box I might get an EyeTV TV Tuner so I can use the new app to watch live tv on my iPhone.

Here's my other idea...
Mac Mini connected to my 42" Samsung HD monitor via HDMI
Xbox 360 also connected to the monitor with HDMI
A FreeView box also connected via HDMI to the monitor with a HDMI switch to change between the three.
I suppose it depends on screen size at the end of the day.

MacBook Pro :: When Connecting To An External Monitor, Will There Be A Quality Difference Between Using A DVI Adaptor Or A HDMI Adaptor

Jun 18, 2012

I am looking to connect my macbook pro to an Acer G24 monitor, but am not sure what best way to do it.The resolution of the monitor is 1920x1200, and it is a 24" screen, with VGA, DVI, and HDMI ports. My macbook pro is the late 2011 entry model.

Will there be a difference in the quality of the picture on my external monitor, depending on whether I connect using a HDMI cable or a DVI cable? I will have to buy an adapter for each of these, to plug into the mini DVI port on my mac, will this alter the quality of the picture at all? If I were to buy an Apple Tv, would I be able to plug it straight into my monitor using a HDMI cable? If so, how would I manage the audio, as my monitor does not have speakers. Would using a thunderbolt cable (with HDMI adaptor) increase the quality of the picture of my monitor?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4), Apple TV, Thunderbolt, Monitor
