OS X :: How To Use TextEdit To Build Webpage Source Code?
Oct 8, 2010
I have been using a PC to design web sites for years, but I recently purchased a MacBook Pro to use instead. On my Windows computer, I would use NotePad to create and edit .html files, which I could then just save and open in a browser. I have been trying to use TextEdit in the same way, but it doesn't appear to be working ... I just write the code into the app and then save it as an HTML file, but when I try to open it, what displays in my browser window is just the text.

I don't get any error message, just a blank page showing nothing. I don't get no time-out message or anything. I have Mac OS 10.5.8 and Safari 5.0.2 and I have tried deleting the cookies and resetting the cache.
Besides I also noticed that while trying to load [URL] the page won't load but I can see the source code.

Wikipedia, on their page about Darwin (the operating system at the core of Mac OS X), says:Quote:p to Darwin 8.0, Apple released a binary installer (as an ISO image) after each major Mac OS X release that allowed one to install Darwin on PowerPC and Intel x86 computers as a standalone operating system. Minor updates were released as packages that were installed separately. Darwin is now only available as source code,[4] except for the ARM variant, which has not been released in any form separately from iPhone OS.

I just recently bought a new G5, so I started to use iWeb and at first I was impressed with it, but I am used to working on Macromedia Dream Weaver.
Anyways, I could not find a way to view my source code in iWeb to make changes that aren't possible normally. I wanted to put some PHP and counter code.
How do you view the source code of the HTML using iWeb ?

I've been having problems with Safari 4 since I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Any page that displays HTML source code in a standard page jumbled up. It is not rendering the page correctly, although if I copy the scrambled text to another program it displays correctly. This only effects Safari and other browsers are okay. Does anyone have a suggestion how I can reinstall safari / reset?? The screenshots above are from a Joomla Edit HTML page but this also happens on other pages such as where they show sample HTML code tutorials.

I'm basically after some suggestions or advice. There are two of us in this house both with two macs each and so all our machines are running OS X. I have downstairs my parents old desktop machine (Core2 Duo) running XP blah blah blah. But they have laptops now and aren't in the country atm. I want to put a new hard drive into this machine and create a server.
Our needs are fairly basic. This server needs to be a file server (for ~ 2TB HDD space), a print server but also a MySQL and PHP server. So far I've fired up iATKOS 10.5.5 onto the machine but I'm trying to keep this operation as legal as possible. My question is really about a linux server. A linux server is able to host a bunch of HFS+ partitions because I've tested that out before but I'm not sure it would work as a print server. How compatible would OS X be with a server (as described) running something like ubuntu or ubuntu server edition?

Is it technically possible for Snow Leopard to build into OS X the WINE project, and have seamless ability to install and use Windows applications on OS X (without X11 cluttering it up - and with the realization it wouldn't be 100% compatible?) Is that even possible? Would the WINE license prohibit it?

I have a Mac Pro 2008. I just got my second Crucial 256 gig SSD. Wanna make it a Raid 0 with my first one. Here are my thoughts.
Process 1:
1. Use disk utility to restore image of original Crucial 256 SSD to external USB drive
2. Boot up with SL DVD
3. Build Raid 0 using two drives. (do I need to 0 out?)
4. Restore image to Raid 0
5. Boot
Process 2:
1. Boot off DVD
2. Create Raid0
3. Use SL to restore backup from time Machine to Raid 0
4. Boot

I would like to be able to build and maintain a website for my financially strapped public library as a service to them and then build a site for my genealogy. When I taught I developed our school's first website using Adobe PageMill about 12 years ago. I have forgotten most everything I knew.
I recently updated my Mac OSX version to 10.4.11. The rest of my profile is the same as shown.
I have been looking into the Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 and I have several questions. First, is this a good choice? Should I also purchase Fireworks CS3 and Contribute CS3 to make the job easier? (Or do I really need everything included in the Adobe CS3 Web Standard package?) Will my present computer system be able to handle this software? Do I need to upgrade my memory?
Also, should I consider downloading PageSpinner to work with in addition to Dreamweaver or will I be confusing myself more?
I have picked out some instruction books on developing websites and using Dreamweaver and I catch on to using software quickly, but I'm not sure about my hardware.

Does anyone know, if there's a free application available (for MAC) with which to build up an archive of DVDs and CDs. I just need a tool, that can store some information about the data contained on the data carriers, something like a digital library. I could only find something like that for windows. But I'm sure there has to be something like that for MAC (for free!).

I want to make various items appear one at a time in Keynote, but I want it to be bulletpoint, image, bulletpoint, etc. However, it seems that I have to do all the bulletpoints at once and then other things, unless I make a whole bunch of different bulletpoint boxes, which is very annoying. to switch the build order to have items in between bullet points?

At the moment I have 2 MBAs at home and the displays are different. My first MBA had some build issues. So I called apple and they just sent me a second MBA. The second MBA's display lighting is much brighter especially at the edge of the screen. So the colours are worse and the black is not black any more. So I'm not sure what to do: I want the screen of my first MBA and the build quality of the second one

Saw someone else's response on a post which mentioned Bootcamp 3.0 and how they had got them from Mininova. The thing that intrigued me was that they said it had built in HSF+ support (about time, don't know why this wasn't already a feature of Bootcamp).
So did a search on Mininova and found the torrent. problem was the person who had uploaded it said it worked on Win 7 32 bit but it hadn't been tested on 64 bit, I had this and when I tried to run it encountered problems.

I just received my Macbook Pro today, pretty excited. I need to put windows 7 on this machine and I was wondering if someone could tell me the best RC version to put on. I actually have a copy of the x86 7100 build but I am under the impression that a 64 bit version would be better. Am I correct in thinking this?

I have an intel Mac Mini, Im trying to build an external HDD caddy for it.
Im lucky enough to have the following items
Mac Mini spare case
Apple Super Drive
2 X 250GB SATA 2.5" HDDs
the case has nothing inside it, its purely a box. My idea is that I want to use it as an external stoarge system (I would buy a prebuilt one, but seeing as I have all these parts, I want to save some cash!)
Im not really fussed if the DVD drive works as the one in my mac is fine.
Can anyone offer some help as to how I can put all the bits together? Im rather new to this.
Is there some form of hub that I can use as a back plate to the box to plug USB cables into or would I need a motherboard of some form?
