View 10 RepliesYesterday I completed a 4 hour backup of my 64 Gb iPad on my 11" MBA. I started with 75 GB available before I synced and backed up my iPad and then checked it again after the sync completed and ended up with 67 GB available. I can't figure why I dropped so much storage after everything backed up. I checked my mobile sync folder and can only attribute 2.25 GB as my backup size for my ipad which means I lost an additional 5.75 GB and is being tied up somewhere on my flash drive. Could anyone please give me a suggestion or idea in how I can determine where the extra storage went?

* from side to side
* from top to bottom
* the exact size of the Esc, F1-F12 and eject keys (one would be enough)
If you would like to go further you can measure others as well, but if those 3 match than the rest probably do as well considering that it has already been confirmed that the keys from an old non-unibody macbook can be swapped to the air or mb unibody.

I have a folder where I place an ever growing collection of my favorite songs. Before I switched to Mac, on Windows, when I wanted to revisit songs I most recently added to the folder, I would sort the songs by the Date Modified and it would order the files I placed in the folder by date.
In OSX, however, there must be a slightly different meaning to "Date Modified," as it does not quite sort my songs by the order they were added. It gets some of it right, but there's plenty of files that are out of order--tune "x", which I know was placed in the folder a week ago is actually listed further down the list with songs placed in the folder months ago.
Is there a way to have OSX sort files in order of the date it was placed in a folder? Neither "Date Modified" nor "Date Created" works 100% as I thought it would. Or is the OSX definition of Date Modified/Created slightly different than Windows?

I've noticed recently that when in Finder, all folders/files have a Modified Date of somewhere in January 2009 or January 2008, regardless of when it was actually modified/created. My clock at the top left-hand corner says Oct 20 though. Any thoughts?

At the moment I have 2 MBAs at home and the displays are different. My first MBA had some build issues. So I called apple and they just sent me a second MBA. The second MBA's display lighting is much brighter especially at the edge of the screen. So the colours are worse and the black is not black any more. So I'm not sure what to do: I want the screen of my first MBA and the build quality of the second one
View 14 Replies View RelatedI just received my Macbook Pro today, pretty excited. I need to put windows 7 on this machine and I was wondering if someone could tell me the best RC version to put on. I actually have a copy of the x86 7100 build but I am under the impression that a 64 bit version would be better. Am I correct in thinking this?
View 12 Replies View RelatedIt seems that simply omitting the optical drive would allow them to make it thinner and lighter. I'm getting a little tired of all the threads whining that the MBA isn't up to specs with the MBP, or that the MBP is too heavy. Why can't Apple simply satisfy both kinds of customers?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am on Tiger 10.4.11 on Mac Book Pro Intel duo. All updates except for Parallels installed. Have run permissions repairs and preferential treatment. Tried to delete preferences for system ... Every time I try to uncheck the box marked or open the Date and Time preferences, it freezes and have to force quit.
I recently purchased two 2GB memory modules from OWC to upgrade my MacBook 2.4 Core 2 Duo. The memory arrived and I verified the packing slip matched what I had ordered. The install went smoothly. Upon turning on my Mac, instead of booting up I got a gray screen and 3 repeatable beeps. These sounded like "warning alerts", so I immediately shut down and tried to power up again - with the same result. I reopened my Mac and confirmed everything was done correctly by popping out the sticks and re-inserting to make sure the modules we're properly seated. Turned on the machine and got the same thing. Nervously, I re-installed the factory modules and (thankfully) my Mac booted up just fine. So does this mean that the memory I received is DOA? Is there anything else those 3 warning beeps might have been indicating? I'm 99 percent sure the memory I received is matched for my machine, so all I can assume is that it's faulty? Can anyone verify my assumption before I contact OWC to help me rectify the situation?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a store bought copy of iWork '08 and I have since bought office for mac. I no longer use iWork and i want to sell it on eBay, but when i was looking over the documents that came with it I noticed it had a product key included. Now I didn't think I ever put a product key in when I initially installed it so I tried installing it on my newer macbook (not the same macbook as it was originally installed on) and it never prompted me for a product key. I want to sell this copy and i'm pretty sure the key has never been used, but how do I find out if it has? Is it fine to sell to someone? If it doesn't prompt me for a key, does it mean it wont prompt them?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to determine what my home IP address is when I'm not at home? Here is the reason for the question: I'm using my iPad as a mobile platform when I don't need all the horsepower of my MBP. However, to allow myself access to my files, I have my home router set up to route the appropriate ports to allow me to VNC into my MBP from my iPad. It works like a charm... until my ISP changes my home IP address. That is precisely what happened, and because I needed to get access to certain files, I had to call a neighbor and ask to have them check [URL] from my network.

I like when Mac products "just work" -- except when they don't. In this case, I have a 2009 MacBook Pro and a mid-2007 iMac. I also have a 500 GB Time Capsule updated to the latest firmware. Not that it should matter, but I also have MobileMe. I've turned on the "wake on network" feature on the iMac. If I tell the iMac to stay awake, I can reach it fine (same as in Leopard). If it goes to sleep, it's unreachable. The way it's supposed to work, from what I'm reading, is that it's supposed to be accessible by advertising to the Time Capsule that there are services available (e.g. file sharing, screen sharing, etc). how can I be sure it's properly advertising this info to the Time Capsule?

I've been using OSX since it first came out but one thing I still don't understand is how you determine where a new finder window will appear.
I recall someone once saying open a window, press CTRL then close the window and the next window will appear in the same spot as the now closed window. That doesnt work, nor does pressing command or any other combination I have tried.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm basically after some suggestions or advice. There are two of us in this house both with two macs each and so all our machines are running OS X. I have downstairs my parents old desktop machine (Core2 Duo) running XP blah blah blah. But they have laptops now and aren't in the country atm. I want to put a new hard drive into this machine and create a server.
Our needs are fairly basic. This server needs to be a file server (for ~ 2TB HDD space), a print server but also a MySQL and PHP server. So far I've fired up iATKOS 10.5.5 onto the machine but I'm trying to keep this operation as legal as possible.My question is really about a linux server. A linux server is able to host a bunch of HFS+ partitions because I've tested that out before but I'm not sure it would work as a print server. How compatible would OS X be with a server (as described) running something like ubuntu or ubuntu server edition?
