Software :: Using Dreamweaver To Build Websites?
May 18, 2008I would like to be able to build and maintain a website for my financially strapped public library as a service to them and then build a site for my genealogy. When I taught I developed our school's first website using Adobe PageMill about 12 years ago. I have forgotten most everything I knew.
I recently updated my Mac OSX version to 10.4.11. The rest of my profile is the same as shown.
I have been looking into the Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 and I have several questions. First, is this a good choice? Should I also purchase Fireworks CS3 and Contribute CS3 to make the job easier? (Or do I really need everything included in the Adobe CS3 Web Standard package?) Will my present computer system be able to handle this software? Do I need to upgrade my memory?
Also, should I consider downloading PageSpinner to work with in addition to Dreamweaver or will I be confusing myself more?
I have picked out some instruction books on developing websites and using Dreamweaver and I catch on to using software quickly, but I'm not sure about my hardware.

Jul 1, 2009I have an intel Mac Mini, Im trying to build an external HDD caddy for it.
Im lucky enough to have the following items
Mac Mini spare case
Apple Super Drive
2 X 250GB SATA 2.5" HDDs
the case has nothing inside it, its purely a box. My idea is that I want to use it as an external stoarge system (I would buy a prebuilt one, but seeing as I have all these parts, I want to save some cash!)
Im not really fussed if the DVD drive works as the one in my mac is fine.
Can anyone offer some help as to how I can put all the bits together? Im rather new to this.
Is there some form of hub that I can use as a back plate to the box to plug USB cables into or would I need a motherboard of some form?

Nov 28, 2010I want to make various items appear one at a time in Keynote, but I want it to be bulletpoint, image, bulletpoint, etc. However, it seems that I have to do all the bulletpoints at once and then other things, unless I make a whole bunch of different bulletpoint boxes, which is very annoying. to switch the build order to have items in between bullet points?

We have no room for an iMac.Currently we stream our personal music to our hifi in the lounge using an Airport Express. Apr 30, 2012I have previously had no trouble viewing pdf files from various websites, however am now unable to. It appears to be loading and then just comes up with a blank screen. I am able to view pdf files which have been emailed without problem. I have removed Acrobat Reader & reloaded but this has not helped. I am able to view pdfs on our laptop & ipad and the settings appear to be the same.

Jun 4, 2014I have the 10.9.3 software on my mac. I recently downloaded the adware removal tool from thesafemac because I had a bunch of pop ups and redirects in safari. Here are a few examples of whats popping up: mackeeperapp2.zeobit.com & unizz.exclusiverewards.dollfield.eu
It also started affecting both my wife’s and my iPhones 5s and ipad air in safari - lots of redirects and taking me to the App Store.

May 16, 2012I'm a new Mac-user having used PC:s for 25 years. On my Windows Desktop it was easy to place new icons with shortcuts to websites I often visit. I have tried to do this on my Mac, creating Bookmarks, exporting them to Desktop. Iicons appear. But when clicked they don't connect with the webaddresses I have given.
I have read Q&A from someone who tried to give similar shortcuts to customers, but I did not understand the answers. I'm Swedish and Mac Keyboard and Desktop menues etc are in Swedish so the exact terms in English may be difficult to translate. My problem is different since it's only on my Mac I need the shortcuts/icons/links.

Apr 16, 2010I don't think I've got anything blocked as far as a firewall goes. I've tried connecting to [URL] and [URL] and it won't connect. Other sites work fine. I tried my neighbor's W-LAN and I couldn't connect either but he connected to squarespace on his macbook pro, so I think it's something with my computer and not my apartment's W-LAN connection.

Jun 25, 2010In Safari 5, there is a search bar at the top right that allows you to search Bing, Google, and Yahoo!
I would like to know if it's possible to add additional websites to that list. So, for instance, would it be possible to add Wikipedia to that drop-down list? If so, how? Will I be able to do this when the Extension Gallery goes live, sometime later this summer?
Essentially, I want Safari 5 to behave like Firefox/MyCroft and allow me to customize/manage the search list myself. I would never search Yahoo! or Bing, so I'd like to replace those with something a little more useful.

Aug 7, 2010My Uncle just purchased a new Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard and he is having trouble accessing certain sites such as [URL] but has no problem accessing other sites like Apple or Google from Safari.
I tried to troubleshooting the issue by resetting Safari and by deleting the com.apple.safari.plist preference file in his home directory but he still has the problem.
I'm not sure if it is related, but I had to have him change the port from 5190 to 443 in iChat in order to connect to his AIM account so I could screen-share with him.
Also, he uses AOL mail and I was able to get it set up in Apple Mail but it is very sluggish to download.
He is using either Cisco or Linksys router and range extender and he said that his Windows computers have no problems connecting to any sites.

Sep 2, 2010I need a plug-in/add-on/application that will block certain websites I want at certain times. For example, block Youtube and Facebook from 4-6PM. Preferably these settings would be difficult or impossible to change once in place, haha. I want to be strict and not let myself procrastinate during the upcoming school year and I think this is the only way to actually do it.

Apr 27, 2004I have been using Safari faithfully since it was released, and in the last week it has developed a strange problem. I can't recall doing anything different that would have caused this problem, but now whenever I try to load a secure website (https), I get the error message "Safari could not load the page https:xxxx because it could not connect to the server." I have tried resetting Safari, but that didn't fix the problem. I have also thrown away the following files (Safari_1.2.pkg, Safari (folder), Safari (application), and com.apple.Safari.plist) and reinstalling a new version of Safari, also without success. I should add that Internet Explorer will always load the pages that choke Safari, but I hate using this program. Has anyone ever heard of this before, and does anyone know how to fix it? Nov 21, 2009The last 2 days my sites in safari haven't been displaying properly. Here's an example:
As you can see the page is displaying in half the window. Other users are having no problem in safari, just me. When I reset Safari the problem seems to go away, only to come back in a couple hours. This problem has only come about in the last couple days, anyone ever have this problem and know how to fix it?

Jun 5, 2010I have a MacBook but I go on safari or Mozilla fire both have same issue I go on google and search then click on a link and it redirects me to unrelated websites I think its a virus because I tried resetting safari and emptying cache on both browsers and still same. Other information: In address bar says stulus.com (extra stuff) then shows what looks like IP addresses and on the page it is a blank white screen except for a continue button in top left corner after a few seconds it sends me back to google.com.

The issue on Firefox seems to have gone away after my internet hosting company apparently "fixed" some DNS zones issues but the problem still exists when I view the pages in Safari. The website is [URL]. Notice how (in Safari) the "John O"Leary" at the top of the page seems to bounce but only if the page is not already in the browser's cache.
2. I've published a number of sites to folders. Is there any way to re-open these sites in iWeb to edit them or is the only way to do this to save the "Domain.sites" file under: User / Library / Application Support / iWeb?

Apr 4, 2009I go to some websites, (such as wikipedia amongst other glitchy thing like someones reply on gmails) and the fonts on the site comes out illegible! It comes out like fraction and words all on top of each other. I tried changing the Character Encodings under View but nothing is working. Its a drag not being able to read some sites. When I copy and paste it onto excel, the actual paragraph clearly appears but once back on the browser, its still messed up. I use Firefox 3.0.8 and Safari 3.1.2.

Oddly, the other 2 user accounts on her machine are fine with the same websites! She's cleared the cache, restarted Safari and her Mac (many times), changed the text encoding (and then back again), but nothing solves it.
