I want to disable t-mobile's connection application from popping up everytime i plug in the 3g modem device. i'm connecting through mac os'x native interface so i don't need the heavy connection application from t-mobile.
the 3g modem device presents itself also as a storage device so, a dmg present in the usb file system is fired as the usb device is plugged.
is there a easy way to switch off flash in safari? ideally i want to switch off safari on a case by case basis. meaning it's off most of the time. but when i think i need it for a special site i want to easily switch it on without any installation.
i want this mainly because i don't like flash and it slows everything down.
The safari memory leak problem has been so bad that i decided to use chrome instead(im a first time mac buyer and gt my mbp 15 a week ago)
Just a few questions. Does chrome has any problems running in osx? it was pretty good in windows compared to FF and IE.
Is there any plugins that allows u to disable flash and allow u to remotely enable it? Just like ClickToFlash in safari.
I just installed Adobe CS4 which includes Flash Player 10. Since then, my QucikTime does not pop up and open stream audio file automatically. Instead, the Flash Player opens the file within the safari 4. Is there any way that I can make QuickTime Player become the default player for this type of file?

im trying to Create a DVD with autorun... since i read mac os x droped this furure sine leopard or ... so it dosent have it.... not possible with flash or any ootehr third part app.... but when i insert the iwork CD in my mac i can see that it brings up a page with appels logo + a pic+ app installations ..
how they have done this... shoyld the CD be an iso.

I have successfully created an autorun (DVD/USB-STICK) image of my bands EPK (Electronic Press Kit) for Windows. However I also need it to autorun on OSX too.
On my autorun image is a portable version of Google Chrome, a portable version of Safari and a stripped down version of our website [URL] with all the supporting video, audio and images. When the DVD or USB-STICK is inserted into a PC, the site is loaded into Chrome portable. This works great!
I am not a OSX guy (though I hope to be one day soon). So I need some help/advice regarding how to make the same DVD/USB-STICK work on a Mac.

I have also found a Mac version of Portable Safari in a .dmg format here:[URL]
And I found info on dual OS AutoStart/AutoRun here: [URL]
Now to just combine them. That's where the confusion for me comes in for me. The main question I have is how to autostart either portable versions of Safari or Chrome from the DVD/USB-STICK? Is the .dmg image executable?
One last note: I need Chrome or Safari because I am using the HTML 5 <video> tag.

It probably got on my mac through a USB device when uploading things to desktop.The file itself hasn't been touched since 2006...pretty darn old usb/trojan. I have both Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Sophos (installed after Kaspersky was unable to disenfect) which apparently quarantined the file but can not be deleted.The file autorun.exe is hidden in a folder RECYCLER in the desktop. I've used the Terminal to show the file. I've checked its info and it's already unlocked and privilege is Read & Write. Whenever I throw the whole folder into the trash and attempt to empty, I receive error message "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items." If I drag the file seperate from folder into the trash, I receive the prompt to enter my security question (was never prompted this for any other file). After entering password, it makes the sound that something went it. The Trash however is empty, and the file remains in the RECYCLER folder in the desktop.

When I travel I would generally take a small travel drive that is clone of my white MacBook as a rescue drive.Now that I have the MBA I am wondering if I could just clone my 11.6 MBA to a 64 GB flash drive and then if the worst happened I could reverse clone from the flash drive to the MBA.

Took it to apple store who confirmed was broken, but the cost to repair was high, and was advised to purchase a cheap external drive. My problem is that the mac keeps trying to read the CD every so often, and the noise as it "whirrs" is really annoying.

i turn on my powerbook, after about 10 minutes a loud vibration along with noise comes from what i am sure is the dvd drive, and crashes my finder (computer). there is no disk in the drive and I have tried using it with a disk in the drive, but the same thing happens.my warranty is well over, i just need it to work and don't need the dvd drive.so, my question:is it possible to disable or remove the drive from the computer and it still function?

I use this drive only to perform a bootable disk image of my hard drive at regular intervals using the CCC scheduler. The backups are performed only once a week. I would like that this backup drive not be mounted when I or anyone else logs in to the computer. It annoys me to hear the drive turning and vibrating until it spins down and seeing it's icon on the desktop. Is there any way to prevent automount of this particular drive? I know I can dismount it manually using Diskutil, but I want everything to be automated. Any clue as to whether CCC will mount it when needed if it is unmounted?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a mechanical fault with my combo drive (cdrw/dvd) in my Powerbook 12" 1.5 GHz running Leopard which makes it noisy even when there is no disk in there. Is it possible to disable the device by removing it from the device tree in Open Firmware before OS X boots? It sounds like the drive is checking for a disk. I am sure there is not a disk in there as it still accepts and ejects other disks. If it were to be removed from the device tree would this likely solve the problem, or would the power cable to the drive have to be physically disconnected?

I formated my usb drive on my Mac to Journaled.
Now that I sold my Mac, I cant open that FlashDrive on my PC.
It doesnt even read.
Here's a strange one. Got a new flash drive. My first step, always, is to use disk utility to erase and reformat the flash drive into FAT32, single partition.
But when I plug in my latest flash drive into my Macs, I see the U3 Install Disc icon on my desktop.
What gives? How can U3 still be on it after a reformat? More importantly, how do I get rid of it?
im in need of a good fast usb flash drive for use in both a pc and mac. large files will be uploaded and downloaded off of the drive so i need something that can do this quickly.

If I copy my Tiger DVD installation disks to an external HDD or a Flash Drive or an internal HDD (a secondary HDD), would I be able to re-install from one of those drives?
I have a 32MB flash drive and I though of experimenting with my TimeMachine on my MacBook Pro . I never used time machine before. I deleted everything from my flash drive and opened up time machine. I then selected my flash drive to be used as a back up drive, I was asked to erase flash drive and reformat ... O.o I wasnt to sure about it but I did it anyway [stupid I know, dont bash me] so TimeMachine began to back up onto my flash drive, then I got a notice that said that I cant back up on my flash drive as it only has 31.2 MB where 91MB was needed. So I took it out. Less than a minute later I inserted my flash back into my mac and it was not being detected. I cant find it in my finder or my desktop.. I even looked for it using spotlight and nothing was found. Its brand new and I really hope I could use it again. Somebody please help.
p.s I also tried using another flash drive and it was detected as soon as it was inserted.
I am trying to format a 4gb USb flash drive and I just can't seem to figure out how. I saw some people say you have to empty the trash while the drive is plugged in, but that doesn't seem to work either.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo my exact problem is that I usually use my Flash between my Mac and other PCs. And I just installed OSX Snow Leopard from my 8GB Kingston Flash. Now I know to use Disk Utility to reformat to MS-DOS (FAT) to be able to to use it between the to OSs again.
So I do that but PCs won't read it and ask me to reformat it again. I'd happily do that cuz I know as long as it's in FAT or FAT32 the two OSs will be able to read and write from each other. But the PC only recognizes 200 mb and when I do reformat it on the PC there are now 2 different Partitions. One being the PC's 200 mb in FAT and the other Mac's almost 8GB MS-DOS.
I've tried a few different things too. I've tried Partitioning the whole thing over again int MS-DOS after having erased everything. Which I see only causes the Flash drive to shrink from 8.01 GB to 7.80GB and still isn't readable by a PC.
Then I tried Erasing it to free space but PCs still don't recognize it and still ask me to reformat the 200mb is sees on the Flash.
