I was trying to transfer some files to a friend's Mac with my flash drive and it said I needed to format it for some reason so I did, and now the flash drive isn't even recognized on my PC! ( Windows 7 )
I was recently gifted an 8gig Transcend Flash Drive by a friend. When I inserted the drive into my unibody MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, it pops up a window that says:
The disk you inserted was not readable by thing computer
Initialize / Ignore / Eject
Clicking on Initialize takes me to Disk utility and if I try to format the drive. it gives me an error that says:
I then take the drive to a Mac that's running Leopard, but the same thing happens there as well, except the error when formatting tells me it's an 'Input / Output error'
On both the Macs, I've tried formatting with a GUID and MBR, but neither works. I've tried to format it as Free Space/MS-DOS format or even the native Mac OS Extended, but nothing works.

Now, before you come to the conclusion that it may be a faulty thumb drive, I need to tell you that the drive works perfectly fine on a PC. I've tried it on 3 different PCs, running XP, 7 and Ubuntu respectively. All the tree are capable of detecting, mounting the drive and read/write it just fine. I could even format the drive just fine on all three computers.
What's more, I installed Mac Drive on a XP machine and it could format the drive as HFS+ too.
This thing is driving me nuts for the past 12 hours and I'm out of solutions what to do.
I have a sandisk cruzer and i finally decided to uninstall the u3 software, so i copied all my files to a folder on my desktop and then used the removal tool. now i can't get some of the files back on. all of the loose files that i had on the flash drives went back, but i cannot get any of the folders that i had on my flashdrive back on. i used to get a -36 error, but after i reformatted my flash drive, now i get "The operation cant be completed because you dont have permission to access some of the items."
I just transfered all my files from Iomega Zip drivers to Mac compatible HP Flash drive. Now I can't open any of those files on HP Flash drive. Some of the files have even disappeared. Is there something I'm suppose to do with Flash drive to open files. If I can't open any of my files on HP Flash drive, is there any program I can purchase to retrieve files on Zip Drive?
I have a flash drive that I use a good bit, but recently it's started doing this thing where it won't eject. Even force ejects hang and I literally have to restart the computer to get the message to go away.
It also has issues deleting files. Perfect example, I just plugged it in, dragged one file to the trash, didn't do anything else, and when I try to empty the trash it says that file is in use when it definitely is not. Then, giving up on that I try to eject the drive and it won't.
I'd say it won't eject about 3/4 of the time. Other drives are fine, so it's not something I'm doing, and it does it on every computer I try, so it's not just my computer in particular.Any ideas what might be causing this?
I own a Sony Cyber-shot camera, and a 24 inch IMAC computer. I took a short video clip and downloaded it to Iphoto (no problem doing that). I then downloaded the clip to a 4 gpb flash drive, as an mp4 video. My problem is that my friends Microsoft based PC can't play it.
When I travel I would generally take a small travel drive that is clone of my white MacBook as a rescue drive. Now that I have the MBA I am wondering if I could just clone my 11.6 MBA to a 64 GB flash drive and then if the worst happened I could reverse clone from the flash drive to the MBA.
I can plug in an external USB keyboard and mouse however I can not mount and USB flash drives or USB external disks. I get the following error message:
kernel Flash Disk : family specific matching fails
I am running OSX 10.5.8 on a 15" Macbook Pro 2.53 Ghz. Apple Care has not be very helpful so far. I've verified/repaired disk permissions with lo luck.
Isn't Snow Leopard supposed to bring hardware acceleration better to the OS? I know adobe flash has never been good in OSX but it is worse in Snow Leopard! I use SMC Fan Control to keep my temps down but the temps rise so rapidly I have to go on 6000rpm to keep it below 70 degrees ? In Leopard it was fine on 3000rpm! This is standard definition we are talking about never mind HD!
So I installed the latest update to Flash hoping it would help with my periodic spinning beach balls when using Safari (plus, Firefox told me I needed to update my Flash). So, I don't see anything in my Applications folder. Where is it and how would I uninstall it if I wanted to?
Safari recently started crashing when I tried to go onto Facebook and Yahoo.
I uninstalled the flash player and the problem has stopped but now I can't get the flash applications (Videos).
I have reinstalled flash player 10 and 9 and the page crashed every time after the reinstall. I have also tried with Safari, Firefox and Opera with the same outcome.
I would love some help to fix the problem and allow me to surf the web with all the flash applications.
I wonder if this sounds familiar to you : I'm trying to install adobe flash player 11 on my iMac ( 10.7.3 ) but without success. Downloading is ok but installing is a problem, after starting the installing process it results not in the application but in the installing manager.
I am trying to install Adobe Flash on Mac desktop. Error message "close Safari" appears and won't go away when 97% complete? won't install any further than that
Every time I go to update my Adobe Flash it tells me I cannot continue unless I close the safari, but I do not have it open, and I am unsure of what to do to get it to successfully download.
I have the New MacBook Pro 13inch with Snow Leopard.
I have the latest Safari, Firefox, and Flash.
Recently I have been noticing that while running flash programs on Safari my browser will freeze and then I have to force quit the application.
Thinking this might just be a Safari problem, I downloaded Firefox but I am experiencing the same problems. I tried running Safari using 32-bit and Rosetta but still experiencing crashing.
I am frequently unable to play videos using Flash in Safari as of late. I get audio and no picture or get a picture & audio with a request box for permission to store info locally from various sites. Have reinstalled Safari, Flash and Java, what should I do?
Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3), Flash plays in other users on iMac.
a friend showed me this game a couple days ago called curveball. since first playing i have become extremely addicted. on my windows laptop, I used to save flash games and movies that ireally liked to my computer by accessing them in my temporary files folder and by copying them to another location. i have tried to do a similar thing using safari and IE, but i can't figure out how to do it...
My MacBook Pro 8.1 (Mac OS X 10.7). It started when i download Mackeeper, i was late when i read all messages thru apple communities that mainly cause of running slow is due to mackeeper. Now am having problems to uninstall it, cannot be remove anymore.
Here's a strange one. Got a new flash drive. My first step, always, is to use disk utility to erase and reformat the flash drive into FAT32, single partition.
But when I plug in my latest flash drive into my Macs, I see the U3 Install Disc icon on my desktop.
What gives? How can U3 still be on it after a reformat? More importantly, how do I get rid of it?
im in need of a good fast usb flash drive for use in both a pc and mac. large files will be uploaded and downloaded off of the drive so i need something that can do this quickly.
