I ran the terminal command to show hidden files and folder. I then restarted finder to expose those files. When I was done, I entered the terminal command to hide hidden files and folders. Typed in "killall Finder," but then nothing happened. My hard disk disappeared from my desktop and the light below the finder turned off.

OS X :: Can't Shut Down Becuase Finder Won't Quit

Mar 4, 2009

I recently made a program go off the dock so that it doesn't bother me, and I also played with some SSH settings in /etc/sshd_config and /etc/services (specifically, the ones mentioned in Rule #4 of Mac Geekery's Basic Mac OS X Security article) and now my computer won't shut down, saying that Finder won't quit.
However, the little white arrow is not below the Finder icon in the Dock. Also my desktop items and top menu disappear. Once the "Logout timed out because Finder failed to quit" window pops up, I reopen finder from the Dock and everything comes back. I have tried manually quitting the hidden server application before shutdown, so I don't think it is that. By the way it is a Mac Book running OS X 10.5.4 which i bought new last august.

OS X :: Finder/Mail And Safari Unexpectedly Quit?

Jan 14, 2010

I am having intermittent problems with MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz with 6GB RAM (yes, six GB) and a Seagate 500MB/7200RPM Snow Leopard OS 10.6.2

Mail will quit when I try to add an attachment

If I go to the Finder from another application, the Finder quits and windows disappear. If I select "new finder window" finder repeatedly quits. After 10 or fifteen times (usually I just restart) I can get the finder window to stay open.

Using Safari and selecting a file to upload causes Safari to quit. Firefox works fine.

I have done a clean install. Problems persist intermittently.

Any advice on how I can fix this?

I accidentally quit finder instead of Safari this morning and now Finder will not open. I still have it in the dock but nothing will work. I also do not have the toolbar at the top either. I can still open the other icons on the dock and use them so I can get on Safari, Ical, etc. I thought I did this once before but I can't remember what I did to rectify the situation.

OS X Yosemite :: Force Quit Window Will Say - Finder Is Not Responding

Dec 2, 2014

I've assigned the tags I want to a file, I'll get the beach ball. If I go into the Force Quit window it will say that Finder is not responding. But if I wait about 20-30 seconds it stops and I can go about my business w/o re-starting the Finder. I only noticed this after installing Yosemite. I use tags A LOT.

OS X Server :: Finder Stopped Working When Forced Updater To Quit

Jun 19, 2007

Q. I stopped an update installer of some Apple software and the Finder, now crashes without showing the desktop. Only the Apple logo and a spinning Beachball which never disappears. I can start up in the Unix mode and also in the Windows mode. I have an Imac with Osx 10.4. I could reinstall the system but probably I will loose a lot of unique files and poto's. In the Unix mode I have removed the Installer file from the desktop but it didn't change the startup. I have little experience with Unix.

MacBook Pro :: Managed To Crack Screen On 15" MBP

Nov 2, 2009

At the airport I managed to drop my computer bag and the screen on my unibody 15" MBP is cracked (2.4 GHz Core 2). It seems it is only the glass lens that is cracked, the screen works fine.

My questions are:

1. How much would Apple charge to repair (UK)? The MBP is less than one year old and I have Applecare but I know accidental damage is not covered

2. If I go with a third party repair, would that void my warranty?

3. Is this something I could do myself if I bought a glass screen on eBay? I am fairly good with this stuff but again would I void my warranty?

OS X :: Not Managed To Register Domains - Website Keeps Timing Out

Nov 11, 2009

I am a web designer, I got my first mac a few months ago and its a lot easier to get my work done now! I register my domain names via Godaddy.com and things have been fine until a few weeks ago, I started work on 2 new websites at 10am this morning, it is now 16:04 and I still have not managed to register the domains! The godaddy website keeps timing out, it works fine on my partners windows laptop, but it times out nearly every time on my Mac Mini, this is both on Firefox and safari.

Normally if I restart my mac and it will let me register the domains after a few refreshing of the pages. Or sometimes when it keeps timing out in firefox I try in safari and it works for a bit. But today neither of them are working, I got right to the payment page and it wont let me go any further, it just keeps timing out on me. I have cleared my cache a few times and that hasn't made a difference.

MacBook Pro :: University Managed Gmail Account Won't Add To Mail 7.3

Jun 4, 2014

I am having a problem adding one of my university managed Gmail accounts to Mail 7.3 on my Macbook Pro. I have two that I use regularly, @oakland.edu and @albion.edu, and I was able to sync @oakland.edu with no issues. However, Mail will not recognize the @albion.edu gmail account and gives this message:

I have tried to override and trust the certificate and that didn't work. I also tried adding the incoming/outgoing IMAP servers manually and that didn't work. IMAP is enabled in the @albion.edu acount. It added to Mail on my iPhone 4S with no problems, so I don't know what else to do.

One possible way I can think of is to open up the iPhoto package, copy all the files to a new location (e.g. external hard drive). Uncheck Copy Items to iPhoto, create a new iPhoto library, and import the images from the new location.
