OS X :: Finished Using Onyx On My Laptop And Asked It To Repair Preferences - ARDAgent
Jul 14, 2010
Just finished using Onyx on my laptop and asked it to repair preferences. All went well until I read the bottom line which said the settings for the SUID file "system/Library/coreservices/remotemanagement/ARDAgent.app/contents/MacOS/ARDAgent were changed and unrepairable. Why would they be changed and how do I get them back to "normal"?
My dad bought a macbook pro a few days ago and he deleted some things; iphoto and photobooth to name a few. I told him to go to system preferences and he gets an error message saying something about 'system preferences may be damaged' And it does not open. Is there a way to fix this? He has the snow leopard installation disks etc.
I dropped my MacBook Pro only about 12 inches and the corner of the shell where the Magsafe connector is located was bent slightly inward. When connected to the AC power there is enough power going through to run the laptop. However, the battery is not charging and now has no green lights when I push the button on the battery. I checked and the battery has been through 129 cycles so should still be good. I'm assuming that means something was damaged with the Magsafe connection when the corner was dented. Does anyone have any advice? How much it would cost to repair the Magsafe connector? My MacBook Pro was purchased in 2007 and I have no other issues with it. Would it be worth repairing or should I get a new one?
I am trying to get all my devices working together on the cloud and syncing when plugged to eachother. I schedule a meeting in iCal and it doesn't go over to the other devices. In addition, when I try to go to apple and set up the cloud, it tells me to go to the Apple Preferences and select the iCloud icon. I don't have one on my laptop.
I am getting this when repairing permissions : "Warning: SUID file System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired."
I have had my macbook for about 2.5 years. The past few weeks i have noticed some type of battery issue.
First I noticed that the led light on the charger was going back and forth between green and orange (charged and charging) (every 2-3 seconds).
I also noticed that on my top right part of my screen where battery life is shown it keeps going back in forth between (calculating....) and (Charged symbol: time).
Secondly, after about a week or so my battery started dying within 5-10 minutes after being unplugged.
Third, now my fan seems like it is always on high.
Unfortunately i was away from home for the last 3 months and i forgot to remove the battery from my macbook pro 2,2.
Now when i use the macbook pro it turns off suddendly when the battery is at 79% charge.... I tried to callibrate the battery and reset the SMC, but i see no change...
Is the battery dead? And even if it is shouldnt i get a warning or something before it goes dead?
Is there anything that i can do or should i start looking for a new battery? I must mentione that this happened also after upgrading to snow leopard.
I do not know if it has anything to do with it, but i remember when i upgraded to leopard i had my battery replaced under warranty cause the computer would turn off suddendly when the battery would each 30%...
I've got a late '06 Macbook Pro, running OS 10.4.11, 2GB RAM, 2.16GHz processor. The battery recently died, but that's not a problem as I run it via the power adapter when at home.
Problem is, since the battery packed up, the computer itself is running slower than when the battery was installed. Is this usual?
It's a dualcore processor, and was previously fast enough to watch HD movies, but now HD movies are jerky, and the whole overall operating system seems noticeably more sluggish.
I have a Mid 2009 MBP running with Lion. I've notice a message that says "Repair Battery" under system preferences/battery. I didnt noticed anything strange with my battery life, but I want to know if I have to do something.
Have got a macbook unibody, got this about 6 months ago. I put a blank dvd+r in today and used toast to burn some files to it. finished burning but the disk will not come out, have tried ejecting and it says its not there no more but has not came out, have also restarted and it see's the disk again and can be read but then if you eject it still does not come out, have tried cmd e, eject button, disk utility, any idea's or should i take it to apple to be fixed/swapped out, not sure which they do
Every time I try to turn on my computer it immediately goes to the grey screen with the different languages that says you have to hold down the power button until it restarts b/c there's some error. Here's the story behind it. I tried to install windows but Bootcamp wouldn't work. It said I had to back up my computer and reinstall the OS as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (even though it already was!). But I didn't have an external HD that was big enough. I borrowed a friend's external HD and reinstalled from scratch (without putting my old system on yet).
The Windows installation finished, then said there was an error and to restart. It kept saying that and wouldn't restart. Then I tried going back to my Mac OS, and it immediately went to the grey screen with the different languages that says you have to hold down the power button until it restarts b/c there's some error. I even tried reinstalling my old system and it still did this. The disk repair utility said everything on the Mac OS should be fine, though. Eventually I was able to reinstall it clean from the Snow Leopard DVD, but now I can't get my old computer back or windows on it!
How do I delete, once and for all, tv shows that I keep trying to delete from my iTunes library? They never finished downloading and I keep deleting them but, they keep coming back when I click "download all" or when I enter a password? I don't want to allow them all to download then delete as there are about 30 of them?
I let my new mbp(mid 2012) battery run down. It was on, I walked away for one minute and came back and the mbp was shut down. I plugged in charger and the mbp won't turn on at all. I got it on Tuesday so it is brand new.
I just downloaded oynx for tiger version 10.4.11 last night and ran it. seems everything is good on my g4 powerbook titanium 400mhz/512 but my question is how often should oynx be ran on this machine? im still kinda used to windows where you had to run programs like oynx or the microsoft built in crap at least every week to 2 weeks to keep the computer usable. should oynx be run that often or once a month?
Since I boot camped my mac (I think this is when the problem started, I've kinda ignored it for a few months) I am no longer asked for my password upon starting up my MacBook Pro, it simply automatically logs me into Lion.
The reason I'm asking this is simple: Since I installed OSX it started up so damn fast. Recently a month after (I guess monthly scripts were executed) my start up became slower. I enter my password, after a few seconds I see background, then top apple bar, a few seconds later dock and then all the apps start to load in the top right corner. Why is this happening?
But i would like to make sure i am at peak performance... i did a little digging and i discovered a program called OnyX which is a utility for system/OS cleanup and overall maintenance.
I'm posting this so that i can ask for advice on how to use it, i dont know which options are safe, what caches to delete etc...
I just want to make sure my mac is optimized and running well. No problems yet, but i thought it might be time, as it's been over a year since i did anything but use it.
I usually "repair the Authorisations" with Disc Utility about once a week. But digging into my Apps I find that I do have Onyx installed... as it came with the Mac I assume the version corrisponds to Panther...
I installed OnyX to improve my system's performance. When I tried to use it, a window showed up asking me to enter the password. The window is different from the one that I normally see during installation. Is it safe to enter the password? In general, can hackers use freeware to collect password from the users? If so, how can we tell whether or not to enter the password?
Besides the below mentionned iMac I also still have an iMac 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with OSX 10.5.8 installed.Since a few days my mail application on the 10.5 iMac doesn't receives any incoming mails from my Me.com account and I receive constantly the request to enter my password. This mail application worked entirely well until it started asking for its password.Strangely enough I can access the concerned mail account on the below mentioned iMac, on the concerned iMac via Safari on iCloud.com and also on my iPad I tried in my opinion nearly everything suggested on the forum and the support pages. I even tried restoring the mail application from a time machine back-up prior to the incident. As incoming mail server in the Mail preferences "mail.mac.com" is mentioned. I tried to change this to "imap.mail.me.com" but even after saving the change it still mentions "mail.mac.com". what i should do to have my mail application work again on the 10.5.8 iMac? Could or should I f.i. restore other files than the Mail application from my Time Machine Back-up?
On new MBP, i keep getting asked for password to delete files, but not to empty the trash. Checked permission and all looks okay. Permission on .Trash is mine not anyone else.
