Safari :: Why Do Searches Go Through Bing
Apr 10, 2012Some time back...maybe a couple months or a few...all my searches began running through a Bing interface. I'm hot happy with the change. Bing tends to prioritize search results for me, with lots of junk, paid ads coming up first and very few results on the first page. What has happened and how can I undo it and move on with Safari searches?

OS X :: Apps Not Shown In Some Spotlight Searches?
Nov 5, 2009I haven't found any info on this problem. When I search the Applications folder in the finder window for things over a certain file size, no apps show up as a result. I look for things over 10KB, yet still nothing appears. Apps otherwise show up fine in Spotlight.
I have reindexed many times. Perhaps my app permissions are wrong? My apps are read/write by staff and read only for everyone. Should there be read/write access specified for System or Wheel?

Apr 8, 2010I run a clean (no add-ons or apps messing with it) iTunes 9.1, and since my 9.0.3 to 9.1 upgrade, I've had a lot of crashes when searching for song names in the column browser.
Is there anything I could do?

Jun 5, 2012I can hear the drives start spinning when I start to do a search, but they don't do it well enough, because generally the finder hangs and often I have to crash out and restart. The problem doesn't occur with the drive I use for time machine, so I can leave that hooked up, but often I have other drives attached so I can access material on them. Trouble is, they seem to spin down when I'm not using them and then they cause trouble whenever I do a search. L. P.S. I'm on a 2009 imac running 10.7.4. I have 4 gigs of RAM.

Dec 3, 2014I can search fine with Spotlight but when I click the result the spotlight freezes - right in the middle of the screen..If I click a text file it does not open the text file after unfreezing..So basically spotlight is completely useless.

Jun 17, 2014Upgraded to ITunes 11.2.2, the latest, using 10.6.8 OS on an Imac and first I noticed no images in my Wishlist. Just a blank screen, with the ability to sort by name ,etc tab.  Now when I do a search for an artist or an album on the store, I get a blank screen also for results, i see the text for showing the options of Aps, Music, Movies, but no images of search results.

ITunes :: "Get Album Artwork" Searches Entire Library Every Time
Mar 28, 2012I run a college internet-only radio station. The system we use works from the iTunes library. Each week, I download music from several music distributors, an average of 20 albums per week. Some of these downloads do not come with album artwork attached. Of those, some have artwork available through the iTunes store.Â
The catch is that each time I tell iTunes to get album artwork, it starts at the top of its list and works through the (as of today) 1,817 albums. It meticulously checks albums for which it already has artwork as well as albums for which it has already failed to find artwork on previous occassions. This process takes about 45 minutes. I've searched the options, but haven't found a "Check for album artwork only on recent additions" option. Â

Sep 14, 2009 this is going to sound silly and I hope I can explain it correctly, but when you click on the Macintosh HD icon and the window opens up, there is a list on the left side of the window. Down towards the bottom of this list, there is a folder titled: "Search For". Is there any way of clearing the Today, Yesterday, Past Week, All Images, All Movies and All Documents folders without actually deleting the files from my Mac?
I recently upgraded to OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and now Onyx does not work for me.

Aug 25, 2009I have had such instability issues with Firefox lately that I have temporarily switched to Safari. I started noticing this on 1.5, but has only gotten worse on 3.5, including 3.5.2. Here is a list of observations:
1. On my Mac, if Firefox is idle for a good time, say a number of hours, it tends to become very sluggish, sometimes even locking up.
2. I used to sleep my system overnight, and 90% of the mornings, Firefox would be locked up.
3. About 50% of the time after sleeping the system overnight, my whole system would be locked up. If not locked up, then the whole system would be very sluggish until I force quit Firefox.
4. I temporarily solved all of these "sleep-overnight" issues by making sure Firefox was shut down before sleeping the system. After doing this, the system just wakes up immediately and works well, like it did some time ago, before the Firefox issues.
5. My son using Vista is reporting the same set of things, in that Firefox locks up itself, and it locks up his whole system, requiring a system reboot. So similar, but worse (yeah, Windows, I know).
OS X :: Open Recent Blank In All Apps
Oct 5, 2009I thought an update to Snow Leopard would sort this, but no luck. My "Open Recent" lists in every single app are always blank, even though I have opened docs using them. I have fiddled about in Preferences > Appearance > Number of Recent Items, changing it from 10 to 15 to 0 back to 15, but no luck. It's ALWAYS blank. I've not found anyone with a similar problem who's managed to sort it.

Dec 11, 2009After updating earlier this week with the EFL Processor update and the Superdrive update, each time I bring my MBP out of hibernate or log on the CD drive starts to run like it trying to load a disc.
But there is no disc inside to cause the drive to think its loaded. It will do this 3 or 4 times before giving up. The noise is annoying especially when at the library studying for finals.

Now, when I open my email and many web pages - notably google, it seems as if the default viewing font has changed.. even the text on the "submit" buttons and things like that has changed...
and whats worse is the new font is barely legible. I don't have any idea what has happened or how to fix it... can someone please help, this is really annoying!

Aug 2, 2010My Win XP box blew last week and we're looking for a computer replacement. Was thinking of iMac higher end i3 21.5" model (due to physical space limitations). This desktop will be used for typical home computer tasks (re: email, internet, minor photos, minor video, minor music, minor web caming, etc. etc.). NO Games - kids have gamining machines for that. If wondering, we have a Windows HP Laptop as well. We use it for portability. Thus, Windows Only applications (like Tax Program) will be used on it. 95% of the time, this desktop is used by my kids - age 9 - 17. Wife does email on it.
For the folks who recently switched from Windows to Apple (re: iMac or MBP), would you do it again?
Note: I've had my fill of Window/Apple comparisons (re Chev vs BMW comparisons). I'm also an MCSE - so I know the Windows platforms better then many. Just want to know if the you'd pick the iMac/MBP platform again?
ITunes :: Its Crashing After Recent Update
Mar 26, 2012I installed iTunes 10.6 a few days ago. Ever since then, iTunes will run until I try to sync any of my devices. I have tried sync'ing iPad, different generations/typs of iPod and iPhone. They all cause the app to quit "unexpectedly". I can play music from iTunes on my computer - it just fails when connecting to a device via the USB port or wi-fi. I reinstalled iTunes today.

May 9, 2012In an effort to free up space on my HD I noticed that within the Itunes there are, what seems to be, every version of every app I have for IOS. I manually deleted them (close to 9GB). Is there some way to tell iTunes not to keep old versions of apps when updated versions come out?Â
