Is there any app that will allow me to remap keys from my pad to keyboard keys ? For an example if i'll press a button on my pad - the text editor will type in a letter ?

I'd like to remap my F9-F12 keys (I like them in a certain order).
Seems simple enough: Preferences/Keyboard and Mouse/Keyboard shortcuts.
But double clicking, then press a new key doesn't do a thing. What am I doing wrong?
I'm using the thin aluminum USB external keyboard and suddenly my 8ik, diagonal of keys stopped working (now I'm using my laptop keyboard). Anyone know if this is typically a sign of a broken keyboard, or a user issue?

How would i go about remapping the volume function keys on my old white apple keyboard to match the sequence order of the macbook's volume keys?
what i mean is how can i remap the volume keys above the numpad so they are used in this order: mute, volume down, volume up like on the macbooks for F17, F18, F19 respectively instead of volume down, volume up, mute like on the old white apple keyboards for F17, F18, F19 respectively. if it is possible i would then just switch the volume keycaps around to match the mapping.
i found this article about modifying the com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist to change the expos� and dashboard keys link. it says near the bottom that it may be possible to remap the volume keys but the author did not know the values... damn so close! does anyone know the values for the volume keys or know of any other way to change them?
I have spent some time modifying the apple aluminum keyboard firmware in order to make it function as I wanted in Windows.
What I have achieved until now:
a) I am using the eject button as a sleep button (this also works in windows)
b) Swap alt and cmd buttons
There are no extra drivers/utilities involved. Everything is stored in the apple keyboard firmware and works even without bootcamp software.
If there are others interested, please post and I will make a tutorial.

I'm a developer and I dual boot OSX with Ubuntu, basically for my work, although I'd like to progressively make the switch completely to OSX (mainly because of battery life).
One thing, though, that's keeping me away from making that change is the possibility to re-map "Home" and "End" keys, which I'd like to have as fn + <- and fn + ->.
Yes, I've searched and although I found a few topics about similar things, I never got to really soving my problem.
So, fellow experts, how can I accomplish this?
I run a lot of PC programs on my Macbook pro and Air using Parallels. Almost all PC software assume you have a home and end keys which you can combine with ctrl to reach the beginning and end of your document. e.g. Openoffice and MS office both, word and excel, and text editors (I program in both C and python). I have big spreadsheets that I cannot navigate to the beginning or end of sheet or even use extra functionality like arrow + shift + end to highlight a column. The lack of these combinations on the Mac make working in excel and / or OpenOffice a pain.Â
A read previous messages about using fn + left and fn+ right arrows, but these move me to the top of page /end of page I am currently in. Tried various combinations of cmd and alt with fn and arrows, non work.Â
I dowloaded keyremap4macbook, tried their various options but non work, even when running OpenOffice spreadsheet on the Mac, I cannot seem to be able to navigate straight to the upper left cell.Â
Previous answsers assumed the user is only using MS word and that is only an oddity of that software. I can assure you that almost all PC software has the assumption that you can go home/end and combine ctr home/ctrl end to navigate to top and end of document. Â

I've been using itunes for a while and it just messed my entire music library up! I've found something that is more Winamp style for me named "Cog". Now my problem is that I want to control it with the F7, F8, F9 keys which are the rewind, play and forward keys, but when pressing any of them it works both on itunes and cog player. How can I disable the Itunes link to it? I want it to control only Cog player.

My spacebar on the left side is greasier/oilier and used than the right side b/c i type incorrectly but faster for me in which I use my left thumb to hit the space bar.I know on my old HP laptop, the keys got all oily and greasy looking after a while. Is there anything I can do about this? I don't think I can clean it probably just have to deal with it

View 10 Replies View RelatedI tend to use alot of my F-keys in Windows through bootcamp, but certain F-keys with secondary functions on the mac keyboard such as changing the brightness or volume up and down (as an example), keep functioning when I press them.
I did shut off the secondary F-key functions in the Mac system preferences, hoping it would stay inactive when I'm in Windows. Unfortunately they still turn my brightness up and down when, let's say, I hit the F1 or F2 keys in Windows.
Does anybody know any way to shut this off in Windows? Does it have to do with any drivers installed?
Someone spilled something on my delete key and it was pretty sticky so I decided to take it out and clean it. After a few minutes of picking the key to get it out, it relinquished itself and I wiped it off. I then put it back on and now it simply doesn't work when I press it. Am I going to have to go to the professionals to fix it? I later did the same to my Volume Up key to see how I may have screwed up the delete key and it inevitably messed up as well. For a short time my trackpad wouldn't tap when I tapped it so I had to go into the system preferences and turn off the function of the trackpad ignoring accidental taps on the keyboard or something for it to work, so my delete key must currently be pushed down but not functioning correctly (I don't know). Then I somehow crewed up my keyboard shortcuts and now some functions work while others do nothing. On word I can use the shortcuts to save and underline, but can't use them to bold and undo. I use the latter more than the former and I don't have a clue as to why this has happened.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a keyboard with two usb plugs in the back. I use one for my mouse, then run the keyboard's connection into my computer. The mouse works fine but the keys don't work at all [I'm using keyboard viewer to type now]. I plugged my 60gb external hard drive into it a few times this week, could that have something to do with it. I just plugged my keyboard in and it 'pushed buttons' on it's own. it held down the command keys, arrow keys, f12, etc.
View 9 Replies View Relatedall the normal keys on my mac keyboard worked fine on friday when at work and i come in today and they are all messed up. how do i get them back to there defaults? Example, f12 now goes to the desktop instead of actually increasing the volume and f11 is the dashboard instead of decreasing the volume, etc. I am not sure if an update or something got installed or what. I have tried going into keyboard under system preferences and restoring defaults but that didn't work. I also tried powering the keyboard off and on and still a no go. I am using the bluetooth keyboard and running snow leapord.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have one of the new Macbook Pros. The F4 key has a little picture of the dashboard on it, hit that key and the dashboard pops up. I don't use dashboard enough to have it warrant its own key. So I don't want that, I want what I had on my iBook - I hit one of the function keys and Expose shows me the open windows for the application I'm in. I think fine, I'll just repurpose the F4 key. So into keyboard>keyboard shortcuts in system preferences, double click the Expose shortcut for Application Windows and make it F4.
The Dashboard still pops up for F4. Go into the keyboard tab and check the box that reads: "use all F1 F2 etc keys as standard function keys" and tada, the F4 key now does what I want. But obviously the volume keys etc now don't. So I thought I'd just go into keyboard shortcuts and set all the shortcuts to match the pictures on the keys. But I can't find most of them. I've got to be missing a trick - I know if I uncheck that function keys box again I can make expose pop up by holding fn and F4 but I don't want that, I just want F4 to bring up expose instead of the dashboard while the rest of the function keys do what Apple designed them to.
So a few days ago I spilt tea on my MBP. When I opened it back up everything seemed to be in working condition, however a few of my keys were sticky. So, yesterday I took them off and started cleaning. That's when things went down hill.
Now, my keyboard will type two letters at the same time. For example, when I press "r" it will type "ry". It does this for the whole row. The Dashboard key brightens the screen and brings up the dashboard. 4 types 46. f types fh. v types vn. And space doesn't space.
All of a sudden my keyboard isn't working right. The caps lock doesn't work/the tab key isn't working and the escape key isn't working. Now this happened before and I fixed it and have no clue what i did. There is quite a few keys and tricks I don't know.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy cat slept on my MacBook last night and now the keyboard isn't working properly ... Some keys don't do anything at all and some keys do things they shouldn't... Any clues on how to fix this? I called the apple support line and we don't think it was anything to do with the settings in 'universal settings'. I'm not sure what else to do and this is one time I do wish I had a man in the house?! Or at least someone else who has half a clue! I rely haven't had many problems with my MacBook 'till now. I'm operating on Mac os x 10.6.8Â Also, 2 cats free to good home. Or anyhome, it doesn't even need to be 'good'! Â

I just recently got a white Macbook 2007 and after I installed snow leopard on it I realised that the I,K and LEFT,RIGHT,UP,DOWN keys were not working and so I installed leopard on it and still had the same problem I booted into safe mode on both but still no luck and this morning the Z key stop working I turned of mouses keys and that still did not work.

As the title says... Keys Q to O are not working. I have removed the letter casing from a couple to check for dirt etc but no evidence and the buttons are also working fine.

One of the keys on my keyboard are not working. The letter "b" isn't working for me.(I had to copy+paste the letter.) Is there any solution? I restarted my computer and even followed to apple instructions in hopes that it would work. However, the key still doesn't work.
