I don't really know why this happened but recently my default Calculator starts very slowly. Heck Firefox starts faster. What is causing this? Must I reinstall that particular app?
View 3 RepliesOk the patient here is a new 2.0 Ghz Macbook. I just woke it up- or tried to. the sleep light was on solid, not pulsing with as it does when sleeping. It didn't respond to key presses of track pad presses. It did power back on after pressing and holding the power key. The desktop was greyed out and a metered progress bar came up and it slowly booted bakc up then resumed as normal. Is this that deep sleep mode, or is this something else?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am using an Intel based imac 2.8GHz, has 4GB memory, OS 10.5.6. It has 16GB Hard disk free.
After finder has been up for 20 seconds or so the response time between clicks gets really slow (1 or 2 minutes). The problem repeats every time Finder is restarted. When I look at the Activity monitor the Finder shows that it is taking up 840MB of RAM and most of the CPU.
My Mac Mini is running very slowly, everything I do is running slowly from google chrome to destop functions. My internet lags and I can hear the processor working chirping away all thwe time. I have tried to defrag and even turned off the wifi to see if it was internet related. Even textedit and preview drag and when they do open the window opens slowly. I am going to take it to the genius bar this week, I wonder do I really need more RAM? I am using Lion 10.7.4 Mac Mini i5 2.3 GHz. I am getting apple's router and replacing my belkin to be on a secure network.

i've been using switch to convert audio files forever, but it's slow and always makes my macbook fan spin out of control (and NOTHING else does that). anyone have a good, comprehensive, FREE alternative to switch to recommend?
View 5 Replies View RelatedCan someone please help me figure out why it is that iTunes is now requiring that I enter my iTunes password seemingly every day for any new purchases I make, even though I've checked the checkbox to "remember password". I can't be sure but this behavior either started happening when I upgraded to Snow Leopard, or when I upgraded iTunes to version 9. I know this must have been addressed on these forums somewhere, but I wasn't able to come up with any thing meaningful when I did some searching for the answer.

It also happens on YouTube when I scroll down to view the comments, it is slow when I scroll through where the video is and it speeds up when at the comments.
I have Snow Leopard's Mail App configured with my university's Exchange 2007 server. My iPhone gets mail pushed the second it is received, but it may take my Mail app on Snow Leopard several minutes to receive pushed mail unless I manually hit Get Mail. Any idea why this would be or how I can fix it?

For example I have to re-enter my username and pass for macrumors atleast once everyday. Also it seems that Safari occasionally hogs more memory and resources after extended use. Anyone else?

I tried everything that has been suggested for these cases: removed beta version of Safari, remove Growl and any other third parties, remove the preferences file (.plist) and the user/Library/Mail folder. Nothing works! I set up another account on my Mac and Mail works there! I tried to use the new files that Mail generated for this new account for the old account but I couldn't make Mail to run.

But the mail app still starts on boot.If I look at the item in the dock, there is a tick next to the option "open at login". I can not remove this tick!If I select the item and re open the context menu, it's still there. If I do this with any other app, the tick toggles. Mail however, refuses to be unticked and wants to be started with the system.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want an explanation to my quicktime streaming problem every 6 months I wait for the Apple Conference and I do not watch it live, but wait till the next day. I click on the stream on Apple's website and it starts but it hangs up and would play for a second then stop then load again the next second. The screen does not change, its the first thing that comes up with black background and white writing. My Macbook is a month old. My dsl is 4/mbs, I tried to change the connection speed to 384/kbs, shut down instant play and put it on long delay, nothing works. Every other stream works fine, the only thing I face a problem with is Apple Conferences. About two years ago the Apple conference wouldn't hang up and it would stream beautifully and my connection was 1/mbs on a 800 mhz IMac?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI use iCal on my Mac and sync it to my gmail calendar account, but use gmail as my email program. I often set reminders for meetings/birthdays etc to email me prior to the task occurring, to my email address.
These emails are arriving fine in my gmail account, however each time I open my computer a little pop up box comes up with an iCal alarm, which also forces the mac "mail" program to start the setup guide, asking me to setup my mail program.
Does anyone know why the Mail program setup always starts when an iCal alarm is triggered, but more importantly how I can stop it? Its really really annoying having to cancel it every single day.
Every time I open iPhoto 09 it starts doing a scan of all my pics for Faces and this is taking up to 300 minutes!! It has already completed this scan twice - why does it keep doing it?

I've got limited hard drive space. In gmail, I keep my inbox pared down to just a few emails I'm actively working on (ie 3-10 emails at a time). Everything else gets archived. However, when I try to set up Mac Mail for gmail (as described on 50 different websites), my computer starts downloading thousands of emails - my sent mail, anything I've tagged, etc. I don't want all this. I just want the few active emails (my inbox) at any one time.
I've tried mapping folders in Mail (ie Use this folder for....), but can't seem to pare it down to just the inbox.

I have noticed that this problems occurs EXACTLY the same on the iPhone latest OS as well.
I recently reinstalled OSX 10.5.8 on my penryn MBP so I could make a larger XP bootcamp partition. After reinstalling leopard and restoring my whole system through time machine my computer is acting weird. First, "the file "itunes library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes". It didn't upgrade itunes to 9 till after I had done all the TM restoring. should be older, no? Second, adobe applications crashed. I was in AI working on a 500 mb file and BOOM, beach ball>crash. All other CS3 unable to open. I have 4 gigs of ram and some of the applications that would not open were not even in use at the time of the AI crash, could this be something with the TM backup? CS3 was all installed together.
Third. While this epic crash is happening on my desktop disappears. Just a blank desktop image. but wait, If I click were things used to be, Bam they appear out of no where, but only if I click where it is supposed to be. It's there in the desktop folder but not showing up as icons on my desktop. I think this has happened to me before the reinstall too, though never all at once, usually when I use the "pinchy" to resize icons one or two will disappear. Fourth. Cisco clean access agent beach balls and requires hard reset. the login window was floating on screen all the way till the screen turned off. These all happened in the same day, now It is working some what like normal, though my itunes is broke. Any ideas on how to fix this itunes? If I only need one application and it's plug-ins (SU and Podium beta) restored through TM ( i have a disk for all the others) is there a way to just restore the one. Would this give me a more stable system over all? should I go ahead and reinstall and restore the one app and do the rest manually?
My Calculator in Spotlight doesn't work anymore... I think its batteries might be dead? When I type in things like "4+4" the search works fine, but it doesn't give any math results. I think it stopped around the time I installed 10.5.2 but it may have been broken before that, I can't remember exactly.
