I want to use a different sound when messages are rec'd. Can I add a sound file to wherever the app stores its sounds and then select it through preferences?

I can't seem to locate the sound file though, does anyone know where they are stored?
Where (I'd assume /System/Library/Sounds somewhere) the "Message Sent" sound is? In OS X Mavericks, in the Messages app, they removed the ability to set a custom "Message Sent" sound, so it appears I'll have to do it the hard way, by replacing the existing sound file. I just need to know where that file is.

About This Mac / Storage -> 65GB worth of backups. How do I find these backups and delete them. I am in need for space to download a program.
Also, I just deleted a program which is 60GB but only 30GB was deleted form my computer. I search the program name and files and nothing came up, is there a place these files are hiding which I can then delete.

Had a storm with a power flux and mac went down. Started it back the next day. Ran a first aid on the hard drive system first (all icons on desk top worked fine, showed all software installed, all documents, etc.) Everything checked out.
I have an Iomega external hard drive attached to use as back up. When I ran the first aid on that the system froze. I turned the computer off, waited and then rebooted. Everything came on again, but this time, my screen saver was the original one, not the one I use, all the added icons from the desk top bar were missing, back to the original ones loaded at time of purchase, all my documents are missing, as in everything except for my pictures on the hard drive, all the info stored on my desk top, everything GONE. NO sign of where anything went. The system seems to work fine as far as that goes, but there is none of the materials from the past 5 years of use. Can't even find my emails from Apple, nothing. That's all gone as well. Called up Apple support but because the warranty is no longer in effect, will have to pay for service. Am ready to do that if this fails.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Mavericks 10.9.3 on my iMac and recently had to have the Genius Bar completely reset my system due to issues with performance since the upgrade. I was primarily using Backblaze to back up my entire operating system. I am now trying to restore "Mailboxes on My Mac"in Mail. I was able to get the actual names of mailboxes back via going to my library in the back up and moving all folders to my current library, however it only restored the mailboxes themselves. There are no emails that were but should have been included.

The system is recognizing it under time machine and is doing full backups to it, but only the backup portion is accessible through Finder. How do I get back to where I can pull up the contents of the Time Capsule on an individual basis?

Isn't really possible to have all deleted from one device to all, similar to mail and any other similar? If this is the case, this functionality becomes bit use(un)friendly, inefficient and not a full step forward, hardly half step. If this is the case, ... switching it off.

The message app only works in the sidebar. I could write new messages and reply only in the sidebar. No overall view, no conversations are available... The message app didnt work really. I recently right clicked a picture to set it as my desktop picture but didn't have the foresight to save the picture in case I wanted to change it later. I still have the picture up but I cannot find where the picture is stored so I can save it for later. I checked HD/Library/desktop pictures but no luck. I just added a gmail account and when I compose a new message I can't see the "from" field. Using the "View" dropdown I can see that it is checked, but it does not appear in the message itself.

my txt messages sent from my mac is going to another country. the two numbers in my messaging app (left or bottom)are the same person with same number,(which is why i showed it in contacts app) but somehow i get my message through a different tab (without+86) when i receive and if i reply to that nameless tab, my message goes to US (it automatically adds 00s behind the number).

Whenever I try to open a file associated with Preview by double-clicking the file I get the following error message...
If I open Preview first and then open the same file from within Preview it works fine. I've tried going into Info for various filetypes and changing the "Open with:" value to change it to something else then change it back to Preview but that doesn't change the behavior. As you can see in the error message it says "Acorn created this file on August 27, 2014"... what that means. I tried deleting the Acorn app but get the same error message..

I have iMessage/SMS forwarding turned on on my MacBook pro. When I type a new message, it allows me to search by contact name, however when I select a contact, the name disappears and Messages only shows the contact number. When I get a notification, the contact name shows, but the Messages window still only shows the contact number. iCloud is turned on and contacts are syncing.
I've seen several replies that say to go to "details" in the Message account tab, but once I enter my password there, it doesn't show me anything new. I don't use Messages on my Mac very often, but I'd like to try to solve this issue.

Popup error comes up on my screen five times at a time and immediately reappears when I click ok. I'm using Yosemite 10.10.1 now and still had the problem before I updated. In the past I saw that this issue was resolved by uninstalling pharos but I don't have pharos installed on my computer.

In my calendar I get an error message "Server Responded with an Error - Access to account "Gmail" is not permitted". This is an old account which I don;t use. I have deleted the account in the system preferences, but the error message keeps appearing in calendar and I cannot clear it. At the moment i can't use calendar or access calendar preferences to see that the account has been deleted. Yet another error which has cropped up since Yosemite.
