Mac Pro :: RAM - Where To Unload It
Jul 22, 2008I had a MP 2006 version and earlier this spring got an '08 version. Obviously, the '06 version that came standard with 2x512MB FB-DIMMs was under-powered so I got 2x1GB Netlist FD-DIMMS from OWC. When I got my '08 version I didn't want to put the 667MHz DIMMS in there with 800MHz stuff. For some reason, I was under the impression that I could get the $55 trade-in RAM rebate from OWC but they've said it only applies to the RAM that comes from Apple, not from third-party sellers...even themselves. So, that leaves me with 2x1GB FB DIMMS. There's nothing wrong with them at all but I'd like to hear from some others what a reasonable asking price is and where the best place to sell them is.

Down to about 15% (17 of 104GB) free space on hard drive and looking to unload unnecessary stuff. /Library/Printers (3GB): I assume I can safely get rid of everything related to printers I do not use.... /Library/Audio/Apple Loops (3GB): of stuff for GarageBand and iLife, which I never use... /Library/Application Support: another 3GB of stuff for GarageBand and iLife... (in fact, can I simply Spotlight for GarageBand and iLife and remove almost everything associated?) Any reasons I should not delete the above? Anything else I should consider deleting? (The big hog is Parallels, but I use that daily). I have pared Documents to the essentials.

Dec 30, 2009I just put in a 320gb 7.2K HD to replace my MacBook's 120GB. I'm wondering how to check the load and unload cycles of the new hard drive?
Also, I've got all my stuff on my 120GB drive while the new 320 is in my MacBook with a fresh install of Snow Leopard. I've got a hard drive dock that connects via USB. Can I somehow get all my files off of the 120gb drive without switching the drives out?

It lets me sign in, and shows my messages from last January, but all of the contacts are red. When I go to preferences and try to log in to my iMessage account, it says, "Your Apple ID can't be used to set up iMessage at this time."

Dec 1, 2014I've had a number of problems after installing Yosemite. One is that when I click on a drop-down item in the main Finder navigation, the first click of my trackpad seems to "release." I have to click a second time to take action.
Other problems after installing Yosemite have included booting only to reach a gray screen with the cursor in the upper left corner ... that's as far as it got. I've also had my screen images become something like a pixel puzzle ... rips, tears, and disintegration. I've done clean installs and reloaded content from a Time Machine backup and that has mostly, but not completely, resolved the problems. These problems, including the need to click twice described above, have occurred on both my iMac and my MacBook Pro.

Dec 11, 2014I am using Yosemite 10.10.1 (14B25). I use dreamweaver a lot as a developer and it appears to crash many times a day.
While this could very well be an Adobe issue, once the app crashes and I force quit it, it will not open again.
After it completely shuts down, I try and reopen it and it will just bounce and eventually stop without opening.
Is there any command line I can run to clear whatever is happening on restart so I dont have to restart multiple times per day to just continue using the app?

Dec 5, 2014FIX MAC MAIL Mac Mail just plain fails for me on connections to my mail server. I spent 2 days trying to make it work, maybe longer. I finally had to move to a 3rd party mail provider.. both Postbox and Airmail connect and work beautifully. I liked some of the features in Mac Mail and would like to go back to it. But it needs to actually work. I am familiar with email setup and host my own email server. I'm trying to use IMAP with my desktop mail, but all attempts at connection fail from some reason, either smtp or imap fails, and sometimes it's random. On trying Postbox and Airmail, connection was automatic and correct and has not failed since setup. IMO, the connection model for Mac Mail is impaired.

I now cannot open dmg files. If I double click on them, nothing happens. If I say open with "diskimagemounter" nothing happens. If I say open with Disk Utility it says wrong version of Disk Utility. I eventually am able to send it using gmail but it only occasionally goes out using aol. It's not an aol issue because when I go online to aol I don't have this issue.
