OS X Yosemite :: Can't Get It To Connect With Windows 8

I used to be able to connect my old Mac Pro and the Windows 8 machine. It was quirky and not especially reliable, but I could make it work most of the time. They are plugged into the same router. I have set all the preferences in "Sharing" as prescribed and as they used to work — File Sharing is on, SMB and AFP are both selected for my user account. The other computer shows up in "Network" on both machines, but they just won't connect.

I have an iMac 10,1 and am unable to connect it to the internet using an ethernet cable.
I have a more recent Mac Book and I just plugged in the ethernet cable to it, clicked the setting in Network settings, and I was connected.
On the iMac it keeps saying, diagnostics can't fix it etc..?
On the left panel in Diagnostics, Ethernet has a green light, Network Settings an orange light, and ISP a green light (internet and Server are Red).
I'm using Comcast cable, and they just say the settings should appear automatically on a Mac (which they apparently did on my Mac Book!) ...

The problem is that my mac cannot connected to google related website(including "www.google.com","youtube.com",map and other websites), I list some detail points bellow.
1. I have tried both safari and Chrome. They both didn't work, so it should not because of the browser.
2. I have tried to use an iPhone, which was in the same wifi, to access these websites, and it worked well. Thus it should not because of the website connection.
3. I user "terminal" to ping "www.google.com", there is no data transmitted. By the way, it works well with other websites like Facebook except google related
4. Surprisingly, it can access google through "www.google.com.au" and some IP address.

Since I upgraded to Yosemite I can't connect to certain websites. I get the message 'the server isn't responding'. It doesn't matter if I use Safari, Chrome or Firefox. If I try to log in to the same websites on my iPad or iPhone everything works fine.

Since updating my iMac to Yosemite I can no longer connect wirelessly to my Canon Pixma 5250 printer. Support Code: 300 pops up on the screen asking me to make sure the printer is properly plugged in. The software for the printer was updated automatically 2 days ago.

Calibre enabled me to stop iTunes from opening every time I connected my iPad, but since Yosemite, it's now iPhoto that opens every time we're joined. I don't understand iPhoto, which never wants to do anything I want it to, so I almost never use it. Not only that, it takes an age to fully open while it tries to read photos from my iPad, the Cloud and probably from the Other Side.
I am guessing this might be connected with iCloud, but I want to stop it. I've looked at iPhoto's Preferernces, I've looked at a number of things in System Preferences, but so far I can't stop this automatic opening.

The iPhone is recognized but I can not get a connection. It says Bluetooth connection is not available. When I look at the network prefs, The "Bluetooth PAN" says not connected and will not connect. They are on the same router and my Bluetooth mouse works fine. I simply can not get them to pair. Advanced for Bluetooth PAN has to configure using DCHP for IPv4 and Automatically for IPv6. Nothing else is on that sheet. This is a late 2012 iMac. New iPhone 5 (warranty replacement). Phone shows it's on my network. Checked computer and it's on my network.

I've installed the drivers, and when I start up in Windows, neither the internet or the wireless pick up.
Using Windows Vista Home Premium. The little wireless icon in the tray just has the big X, so it's literally picking up nothing. I also can't connect via ethernet.

Since I have upgraded to Yosemite, I've been experiencing problems with the windows. Sometimes, they become transparent or even entirely invisible, I can see the borders when I pass over them with the mouse on mission control and I can perform actions as if they were fully functional, I just can't see them. How can I solve this? It happens with every window open at the moment, but it doesn't affect the ones that I open after.
The image shows how the window become sometimes, other times it's completely invisible.

I don't remember if this was a problem in previous versions of OS X but I have just begun using Yosemite and am sick an tired of seeing that sidebar in every window I open. I have searched the net looking for a way to default to "no sidebar" for every window I open to no avail.
Any terminal command or other solution to change this default behavior?

Why I can no longer drag windows into Hot Corners?! This is extremely frustrating and aggravating and time consuming to my work flow. If for some reason I need to attach a single Google Chrome tab to a window containing multiple tabs I would simply drag that one tab into the top left corner into my Mission Control Hot Corner which then prompts all windows to arrange themselves in such a way that makes every window visible. I would then locate the desired window and drop the tab into it, now i have to manually move every window out of the way place the tab and then adjust all windows back to their places by hand...one at a time...

I want to create a Windows partition to load Windows 7. But the Bootcamp assistant returns a dialog box saying I must update my boot ROM firmware before using the setup assistant. This happened AFTER I installed Yosemite 10.10.1. I previously had Windows successfully installed when I was running Mavericks.
In clicking the SMC firmware icon in Launchpad I get another message saying "An unexpected error occurred (28). Your firmware cannot be updated."

I recently became unable to view files on the PC at work. I used to be able to see the computer in the Finder as long as I was connected to the wifi. I can still my coworker's mac, which has not been upgraded to Yosemite. Additionally, his mac can see the PC in his Finder. Also, when I load windows on my mac, I can access the PC. I think this is related to other issues posted here, but nothing seems to to these specifics.

I installed Windows 8 with Boot Camp Assistant however I couldn't boot into OS X anymore. I get a prohibited sign on boot. If I press Command+V on boot it says "Error loading kernel cache (0xe)". Windows 8 can still boot without problem.

I just upgraded from 10.8 to 10.10.1. I have two monitors attached to my system. I have 4 desktops (2 monitors each) created in Mission Control.
I can no longer drag an application or folder window from one desktop to another. Had no problems in 10.8

where no matter if I close a window or document, windows/docs which had previously been open relaunch if I relaunch the app. For instance, I launch Safari and go to the following three sites: URL... I subsequently close blue.com and the later close safari completely. Upon re-launching Safari, I would expect red and white to reopen (the two sites that were open when I closed the program), however red. white AND blue reopen.
this was just an example, in reality when this again just happened a few minutes minutes ago, Safari relaunched 27 websites in 4 different windows, even though I had specifically closed all sites/windows and quit out of Safari before re-launching.
Similarly, upon restarts, the OS not only re-launches apps and windows I had open at the time I requested the restart but many documents, windows and applications that were CLOSED at the time I restarted the computer. When I close something, that seems like a clear indication that I am done with it and don't need it open. OS seems to feel differently.

I'm trying to share my MBPr over my LAN with my windows 8 desktop. When i go to the file sharing options, under "Windows File Sharing" section, the user account i want to share (my main account) is greyed out, so I can not select it. The other user account is selectable though.
Any reason why I can't select my main account??

I have just installed Windows 7 Home Basic with Paralles. Windows is working fine along with OSX. I am facing a problem.

I'm trying to connect my windows pc to my mac through vnc viewer on windows. 2.8ghz Al iMac running Leopard 10.5.2 I can see my windows PC under "shared", but I cannot connect to it. After entering the username and password used on the PC, I get "connection failed". If I try to connect using the "command-K" method, I get an message saying "you do not have permission to access this server" after entering my username and password. I also cannot connect as a guest even though I have enabled the guest account on the PC. The PC and iMac are in the same workgroup. I have file sharing turned on the iMac and can access the iMac from my PC with no problems at all. In Tiger, I was able to access to the PC using "command-K". Any ideas? I'm stumped. I feel like I've tried everything.

I'm a mac noob. Actually I'm pretty technologically challenged full stop. But I got a mac about a month ago. There's not problem connecting to the internet, it picked it up straight away. However I live in a house full of windows computers which are all wirelessly networked. Sometimes I can connect to them (for no rhyme or reason) and sometimes I can't. I don't particularly care that I can't reach them but I need to be able to connect to my printer. I just plugged my printer straight in the USB and it worked so they're compatible.But my network and computers aren't in the side bar of the finder at the moment. I try clicking "go" and then "connect to server" but I have no idea what my server address is. Is it my IP address or what? as I said I'm technologically challenged.
