So I am interested in getting an airport express so I can capture the wireless from my netgear router and then connect my xbox 360 to the ethernet port to use the internet... I would also like to connect my desktop PC to the ethernet port to use the internet because I use my Macbook Pro for internet use. Since my desktop doesn't have a wireless card I won't have to buy an adapter for it if i use the airport express. I also want to use the airport express to connect to my AV receiver.
Basically in my room I have a desktop PC, xbox 360, AV receiver, and a tv. The reason I ask about the requirement to have an airport extreme base station was because it seemed like most of the posts on this topic said you need to enable "Allow this network to be extended" and i don't think my netgear router has this option, but i dont see why it would need it...
In my mind I would expect the airport express to be able to connect to my wireless network after i enter in the password, and then be able to connect my xbox or pc to the ethernet port...
I'm trying to use my AE (Airport Extreme) Base Station to give my xbox 360 wireless. Has anyone done this? My setup is as Follows: Netgear WGR614 v7 Router connected to my Cable Modem AE Base station connected wirelessly to the Netgears Network Xbox 360 connected via ethernet to AE. It's not working though. My AE gets an IP automatically from the Netgear fine, but the xbox won't connect. I have my AE on "Join Wireless Network" mode and it's LED is solid green but it still doesn't give the xbox any internet.

Would the apple airport express be good enough for streaming videos and movies? There will be three laptop users. At most, two at any given time I think.
Would the express be good enough or do I have to get the extreme to stream video and movies? (YouTube, age of empires gaming, apple tv, netflix)
I have an Airport Extreme Wireless N router (the previous rev that does not have guest network), and an Airport Express Wireless N. My cable modem is, unfortunately, not in the same place where I need my router, since I want to hook my desktop, ethernet printer, and other devices up to the airport extreme router. So, is it possible for me to hook my cable modem up to the Airport Extreme via ethernet, and then somehow connect my Airport Express router to that to get out to the net? I want my laptop to join the router, not the Airport Express, so I can gain access to my printer and files on my server hooked up to that router while still maintaining an internet connection.
View 13 Replies View RelatedWhenever I'm playing an online game on my Xbox 360 and my telephone rings, I am automatically disconnected from Xbox Live. My router and everything are downstairs, almost directly below my 360 which is using the wifi.
Would buying an Airport Express fix this? I'm thinking maybe it'll boost the wifi strength? I don't know, I'm not very skilled when it comes to internet stuff and I'm not quite sure why I'd be disconnected every time the phone rings. Anyone?
I have read before that people have had technical difficulties with the Airport Express and Xbox 360. I play on Live quite a lot, but get a poor connection from my old D-Link router, which often drops out. As soon as I get a new MBP, I will be getting the new APX Base recently released. Does anyone know if there could occur any problems connecting the Xbox and the AirPort base?
View 17 Replies View Relatedive had my xbox 360 connected to my apple extreme base station (gigabte) connected via wifi, ive maybe had 1 or 2 issues but that was the xbox wifi adapter (had to plug it in the front usb then in the back to get it working again). I decided to hard wire the xbox to the base station so the gaming was faster, this was fine for maybe 48hrs. But then pow, when the xbox is on i lose the wifi function of my apple base station and no compute can connect to it in the house, turn the xbox off and it the wifi is restored. If i try to connect the xbox via the wifi adapter it also shuts down the wifi of the base station. Ive restarted and updated everything sooooooo many times. The only thing that happened the morning this kinda started happening is we had a power cut, the only thing that would of been on was the apple base station, no fuse was blown or anything. Could the power cause the router to mess up? Ive called xbox and they just took me through resetting stuff which works for 1 minute then i cant connect to xbox live and it all goes wrong again.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have done everything. i have turned on upnp on my modem, as well as opening ports, so now i believe the reason why i have a strict nat would have to be my router. i have tried opening the ports, but to no avail. is there somthing i am not doing? i do not have a costum ip (forgot what its called) and i am new to this stuff. i dont want to have to pay geek squad 150 bucks, nor do i want to buy a new router.

I set up my airport express to give my apartment wifi, but the problem is, xbox doesn't have wireless built in (i refuse to purchase the wireless dongle). So my roommates and i purchased an ethernet network hub. We made one connection to my airport express, and one connection directly into the xbox. Now here's what we can't figure out. We can only configure one or the other to work at a time. We can't get them both to work at the same time. We configure the xbox, and the airport express won't work. We then reconfigure the airport, and we get kicked off of xbox live. Does anyone know a way to get both of these to work simultaneously?

My 360 is in another room.. and while I have a long enough ethernet cable to hardwire it to the router, that's pretty inconvenient and doesn't really look that good. So my question is... how would the connection quality be if I connect it to the airport express? Is it like hardwiring it?

What I don't want to do is have it connect to my computer and then xbox live, which I know is a workaround. I just want the xbox to work with the router directly.

I just got an xbox 360 with the latest wireless adapter ("N" type) and when I try to set up the xbox to work wirelessly, the setup "fails" - xbox either can't "see" my home wireless network or else can't attach to it. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an Airport Extreme, with two USB hard drives connected to it. The Airport Extreme shares these disks to my wireless network via Airport Disks.
Upstairs I have an Airport Express, that wirelessly connects to my Airport Extreme downstairs, and extends the wireless network so I get a good wireless reception upstairs.
My problem is, that it does not seem like me Airport Express does a good job of forwarding my 2 USB Airport Disks to the extended wireless network upstairs.
For example, when I use the AirVideo iPhone app to stream video from my USB Airport Disks I get a server connection error when I go upstairs and the iPad/iPhone switches to the Airport Express networks. I cannot reconnect as long as it is on the Airport Express network. If I turn the airport Express off, and thus switch to the poor wireless reception from the Airport Extreme, I can connect to the USB Airport disks again.
The Airport Express is connected to the Airport Extreme in bridged mode.
I have been searching around the forum for this answer and I haven't found anything specific. Here is my network setup.
Bedroom:
Modem --ethernet-- Airport Extreme --ethernet-- iMac
Living Room:
Airport Express (Wirelessly Connected to Airport Extreme) currently setup for AirTunes using a bridged connection.
What I want to know are the specifics of running an ethernet cable from my XBOX 360 to the Airport EXPRESS and using that as my internet hook up to get on Xbox Live.
I bought my MacBook Pro and a brand new Airport Extreme to go with it about 4 months ago. I have the MacBook and my wife's iMac hooked up wirelessly to the Airport Extreme with no problems. My son't Wii also hooks up with no problems wirelessly. My Xbox 360 hooks up sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. It's not wireless, it's hooked directly to the Airport Extreme via Ethernet cable. When I first got the Airport Extreme, the Xbox had no problem hooking up to it and the internet. But lately it sometimes hooks up, and sometimes it doesn't...with no explanation as to why other than maybe the position of the planets or something. Restarting the Airport Extreme helps sometimes, sometimes it doesn't. I'll just leave it be for a few days...change nothing...and then try the Xbox again and automagically it seems to work...for a few days. Then for no reason will just stop again. It can't connect through anything then, not even hook up to one of the Mac's using Connect360. It's as if the 360 is not even hooked to any network then. Also, the Xbox 360 had zero network problems when I was using a DLink router, which was the set-up to hook to the internet and the hub of the home network for the past year. The 360 could hook to the Macs and access the Internet. But the Dlink wasn't wireless, which is why I went with the Airport Extreme when I got my Macbook Pro.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues getting my new XBOX 360 Slim to connect to my dual-band Airport Extreme when using wireless n. I can get it to connect with n but my connection speed on the 360 drops to 1 or 2 mbps, even though the signal remains strong. I can see the speed drop of the 360 using Airport Utility on my laptop. All other devices on the network are fine. When I switch the 2.4 GHz band on the AE to b/g only, then the connection speed on the 360 shoots up to 54 mbps. That of course neuters the rest of my wireless n devices to g speed since most connect to the 2.4 GHz band due to the limited distance of the 5 GHz band.
Short of finding a solution, my next step is to try a different router brand. I'd rather stick with Apple, but have had more issues with 2 AE models than all of my other Apple hardware combined.
Just a question for those who have used the Airports. Can a USB hub be used to expand the number of devices the Airport can use? i.e., an external hd, a laserjet, and an inkjet.

I currently have the apple extreme as my wireless router. It works great. I absolutely love it. I have two macbook pro's (wife and I both have one) and use it for my PS3 and Xbox 360. I started a new job and was given a free HP desktop (not my choice, but hey, it's free, so what can I say). The desktop is not wireless and I am not able to put my computer near the airport extreme because my TV already owns that territory. Today I bought the Airport express to use as a bridge (and other things in the future). I have plugged it in. I opened the airport utility using my macbook. It finds my extreme and my express. I select that I want to set up the express. I select that I want to set it up using an existing wireless network. I select my airport extreme. It tells me that it has to restart the express. I wait approximately 3 minutes. It then tells me that the settings to the express have been changed but it's not able to find it.
My main goal is to use the express as a bridge. I have the express plugged in beside the desktop and want to run an ethernet cable from the express to the desktop to allow for wireless capability.
I recently had Fios installed and they provide a router/modem Actiontec M1424. I have it set up so I am still able to get wifi off my airport express since it provides faster wifi speeds. I am having a problem with xbox live.
I keep getting NAT moderate instead of open. I opened ports 3074 and 88 in airport utility but no luck. Is it because it is going through two routers?
Anyone have a similar setup and have an open nat? The reason I choose not to use the actiontec is because on live the connection is terrible but I have an open nat.
So here is my deal. I have an airport express base station which i use as my router. It works just fine when i have it as my wireless router for my macbook and my pc when i have it locked using a WPA password. When i have it locked though it will not work with my xbox 360 and linksys wireless gaming adapter [URL:..] which i have. When i unlock the WPA and leave the airport express unlocked it will work with my macbook and my xbox 360, but it then wont work with my pc. I do not personally care about the pc, but my wife does. I also would like to have it locked and WORK with all three devices. Anyone have any suggestions for this lost soul?

Neither I, on a mac, nor my roommate, on a PC, can get a consistent connection on it. Needless to say it's going back and I want to get an express or an extreme. I had actually bought an Airport Extreme first and it was lightening fast, but I was told that the Express was just as fast, so I went to exchange. The guy at BestBuy told me the Belkin was cheaper and just as fast, so I bought it. I would really like this to be my last trip to the store for a router. Do I need to shell out for the Extreme or is the Express just as fast if all you need is an n router?
