Hardware :: Configuring Both Airport Express And Xbox 360?
Sep 11, 2009
Just moved back to school and got our internet set up. Our internet service came with a simple cable modem and no router. I set up my airport express to give my apartment wifi, but the problem is, xbox doesn't have wireless built in (i refuse to purchase the wireless dongle). So my roommates and i purchased an ethernet network hub. We made one connection to my airport express, and one connection directly into the xbox. Now here's what we can't figure out. We can only configure one or the other to work at a time. We can't get them both to work at the same time. We configure the xbox, and the airport express won't work. We then reconfigure the airport, and we get kicked off of xbox live. Does anyone know a way to get both of these to work simultaneously?
I have an 17" i7 MBP which has connection issues with my Airport Express. Sometimes, it connects on the first try, other times I have to turn the airport, on the MBP, on and off several times before it will connect. Sometimes that won't even work, so I put the mbp to sleep, wake it back up, then it will connect. Once connected, it works fine and never have any of the disconnect problems I have read about.
The other weird thing is that at the office, where we use non-apple wireless access points, I never see an issue.
I am attempting to set up a wireless network with an AirPort Express in order to access the Internet from my iPod touch. My computer is a 2002 PowerBook G4/667 running OS X 10.4.11 (the latest OS it can run), and according to an Apple Store Genus, either the AirPort card or the AirPort antenna is shot, rendering the PowerBook useless as a wireless device. Adding to the pain, my cable modem has only one Ethernet port. Hence, I have purchased a Belkin F5D5050 USB/Ethernet adapter (and installed USBPegasusEthernet 1.0.9 as a kernel extension to make it work).
Which I plan to use to connect the AirPort Express to the computer (via the Ethernet port on the Express and the USB port on the PowerBook). The modem would be connected via Ethernet directly to the PowerBook's sole Ethernet port. Everything I read on the Internet says that I should be able to configure the AirPort Express over Ethernet via AirPort Admin Utility, but the utility doesn't seem to see the Express, even if I directly connect them to each other (one Ethernet port to the other). How I could make my network operational?
Whenever I'm playing an online game on my Xbox 360 and my telephone rings, I am automatically disconnected from Xbox Live. My router and everything are downstairs, almost directly below my 360 which is using the wifi.
Would buying an Airport Express fix this? I'm thinking maybe it'll boost the wifi strength? I don't know, I'm not very skilled when it comes to internet stuff and I'm not quite sure why I'd be disconnected every time the phone rings. Anyone?
ok so heres the deal.I have my airport extreme upstairs which is providing wireless through my house with a speedstream router plugged into it. downstairs is my tv with my xbox 360. I just bought a aiport express so i can plug my ethernet cable from my xbox into and that will supposedly connect wirelessly to my extreme.
I have an Airport Extreme connected to cable modem. I also have an Airport Express for some reason. My 360 is in another room.. and while I have a long enough ethernet cable to hardwire it to the router, that's pretty inconvenient and doesn't really look that good. So my question is... how would the connection quality be if I connect it to the airport express? Is it like hardwiring it?
setting up my xbox 360 with a xbox-live connection. I am planning on relaying my base station's internet connection to my express. Then connecting my express to my xbox via ethernet. if someone could inform me on the settings, for the xbox, extreme base station, and express.
I have been searching around the forum for this answer and I haven't found anything specific. Here is my network setup.
Bedroom: Modem --ethernet-- Airport Extreme --ethernet-- iMac Living Room: Airport Express (Wirelessly Connected to Airport Extreme) currently setup for AirTunes using a bridged connection.
What I want to know are the specifics of running an ethernet cable from my XBOX 360 to the Airport EXPRESS and using that as my internet hook up to get on Xbox Live.
I searched the forums but i couldn't find a specific answer to this question... I'm a kinda/non-tech savy girl who loves tech stuff but needs help sometimes
So I am interested in getting an airport express so I can capture the wireless from my netgear router and then connect my xbox 360 to the ethernet port to use the internet... I would also like to connect my desktop PC to the ethernet port to use the internet because I use my Macbook Pro for internet use. Since my desktop doesn't have a wireless card I won't have to buy an adapter for it if i use the airport express. I also want to use the airport express to connect to my AV receiver.
Basically in my room I have a desktop PC, xbox 360, AV receiver, and a tv. The reason I ask about the requirement to have an airport extreme base station was because it seemed like most of the posts on this topic said you need to enable "Allow this network to be extended" and i don't think my netgear router has this option, but i dont see why it would need it...
In my mind I would expect the airport express to be able to connect to my wireless network after i enter in the password, and then be able to connect my xbox or pc to the ethernet port...
I recently had Fios installed and they provide a router/modem Actiontec M1424. I have it set up so I am still able to get wifi off my airport express since it provides faster wifi speeds. I am having a problem with xbox live.
I keep getting NAT moderate instead of open. I opened ports 3074 and 88 in airport utility but no luck. Is it because it is going through two routers?
Anyone have a similar setup and have an open nat? The reason I choose not to use the actiontec is because on live the connection is terrible but I have an open nat.
So here is my deal. I have an airport express base station which i use as my router. It works just fine when i have it as my wireless router for my macbook and my pc when i have it locked using a WPA password. When i have it locked though it will not work with my xbox 360 and linksys wireless gaming adapter [URL:..] which i have. When i unlock the WPA and leave the airport express unlocked it will work with my macbook and my xbox 360, but it then wont work with my pc. I do not personally care about the pc, but my wife does. I also would like to have it locked and WORK with all three devices. Anyone have any suggestions for this lost soul?
I was trying to access my father's wireless network while I was home for a week. I found a utility to configure for a mac (my dad only has Windows), but after running it, and it failed to find the router, my airport will not turn on. The option to "turn AirPort on" is grayed out and cannot be clicked. I have attached two pictures to illustrate. I have restarted twice to no avail.
I have a guest account set up on my Airport Extreme. I'm trying to hook up a wireless gaming adapter (xbox) to a Slingbox. It's worked in the past with linksys routers that had no security. When I set up the airport, I set security by default, but I want to remove it from the guest account. I just can't find the way to configure the guest account. I'm sure its pretty easy and just a button I can't find.
I have an Airport Extreme, with two USB hard drives connected to it. The Airport Extreme shares these disks to my wireless network via Airport Disks.
Upstairs I have an Airport Express, that wirelessly connects to my Airport Extreme downstairs, and extends the wireless network so I get a good wireless reception upstairs.
My problem is, that it does not seem like me Airport Express does a good job of forwarding my 2 USB Airport Disks to the extended wireless network upstairs.
For example, when I use the AirVideo iPhone app to stream video from my USB Airport Disks I get a server connection error when I go upstairs and the iPad/iPhone switches to the Airport Express networks. I cannot reconnect as long as it is on the Airport Express network. If I turn the airport Express off, and thus switch to the poor wireless reception from the Airport Extreme, I can connect to the USB Airport disks again.
The Airport Express is connected to the Airport Extreme in bridged mode.
I am a NYU college student and have my macbook pro (running snow leopard os) connected to the internet via ethernet connection. My mac is sharing internet through it's ethernet connection and my ipod, blackberry, and friend's computers can connect via it's connection. However, the same does not go for my xbox 360. I keep getting a message saying "unable to connect to xbox live because my router can't assign an ip address" I have tried unplugging my internet for 30 seconds but it still doesn't work...neither does a direct ethernet connection.
I am trying to connect my xbox360 to the internet by sharing from my ethernet connection. I have the latest model xbox with built in wireless. Also my internet connection is pppoe because i am in Okinawa, Japan. It is NTT/OCN.
Just a question for those who have used the Airports. Can a USB hub be used to expand the number of devices the Airport can use? i.e., an external hd, a laserjet, and an inkjet.
Can it? If it can, would Airtunes still work like normal.
In other words, can I be connected to my Airport EXTREME and Airtunes would still work since the Airport EXTREME and EXPRESS are using the same network wifi-name (the Express is just extending the Extreme's range).
I have an old Airport Express (A1088).I am running OSX 10.9.4 - I have downloaded Airport Utility 5.6 and yet cannot install - I am getting "This version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported".Unfortunately no PC or old Mac available. I used to be able set up on IOS but cannot do that anymore either.Any clues how to re-setup this old airport that works ok.
Info: MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
I have read before that people have had technical difficulties with the Airport Express and Xbox 360. I play on Live quite a lot, but get a poor connection from my old D-Link router, which often drops out. As soon as I get a new MBP, I will be getting the new APX Base recently released. Does anyone know if there could occur any problems connecting the Xbox and the AirPort base?
ive had my xbox 360 connected to my apple extreme base station (gigabte) connected via wifi, ive maybe had 1 or 2 issues but that was the xbox wifi adapter (had to plug it in the front usb then in the back to get it working again). I decided to hard wire the xbox to the base station so the gaming was faster, this was fine for maybe 48hrs. But then pow, when the xbox is on i lose the wifi function of my apple base station and no compute can connect to it in the house, turn the xbox off and it the wifi is restored. If i try to connect the xbox via the wifi adapter it also shuts down the wifi of the base station. Ive restarted and updated everything sooooooo many times. The only thing that happened the morning this kinda started happening is we had a power cut, the only thing that would of been on was the apple base station, no fuse was blown or anything. Could the power cause the router to mess up? Ive called xbox and they just took me through resetting stuff which works for 1 minute then i cant connect to xbox live and it all goes wrong again.
i have done everything. i have turned on upnp on my modem, as well as opening ports, so now i believe the reason why i have a strict nat would have to be my router. i have tried opening the ports, but to no avail. is there somthing i am not doing? i do not have a costum ip (forgot what its called) and i am new to this stuff. i dont want to have to pay geek squad 150 bucks, nor do i want to buy a new router.
After configuring wireless security on my Airport Extreme base station, the Airport Express I use to stream iTunes music to my whole-house stereo system has disappeared. Airport Utility can't see it. Yes, I checked connections. All I get is a blinking yellow light on the Express. The base station works as its supposed to.
I have a 17" Powerbook G4 with a 1.33 GHz Power PC processor. I'm running MacOS 10.5.8
MBP 2.2; OSX 10.4.11; Airport Express 802.11n (version 7.3.2); WD MyBook 320GB (format Mac OS Extended) I'm trying to get the WD HDD setup as a wireless hard drive, but it's not showing up at all in Airport Utility (I don't even have a 'disk' tab in the 'manual setup' menu). Airport Disk Utility just says "no airport disks found." Of course the HDD works fine when plugged in directly to the MBP. I've searched apple support and these forums, but haven't found anything that works yet. All help I have found says use the 'disk tab' in AE manual setup window. What do I do without a 'disk' tab? (or how do I get one?) is this a firmware/software issue with the AE?
I currently have the apple extreme as my wireless router. It works great. I absolutely love it. I have two macbook pro's (wife and I both have one) and use it for my PS3 and Xbox 360. I started a new job and was given a free HP desktop (not my choice, but hey, it's free, so what can I say). The desktop is not wireless and I am not able to put my computer near the airport extreme because my TV already owns that territory. Today I bought the Airport express to use as a bridge (and other things in the future). I have plugged it in. I opened the airport utility using my macbook. It finds my extreme and my express. I select that I want to set up the express. I select that I want to set it up using an existing wireless network. I select my airport extreme. It tells me that it has to restart the express. I wait approximately 3 minutes. It then tells me that the settings to the express have been changed but it's not able to find it.
My main goal is to use the express as a bridge. I have the express plugged in beside the desktop and want to run an ethernet cable from the express to the desktop to allow for wireless capability.
AirPort Express doesn't show up in AirPort Utility 6.0. I haven't updated the AirPort utility on my laptop, and can find it there. 6.0 doesn't even has a scan button... I've done a hard reset of the AirPort Express, still isn't showing up.
I've been looking around the internet for a solution to this problem. I'm currently in an apartment with a single wired connection running to my Macbook Pro, i haven't got time to buy a switch or router right now and i've been trying to connect my 360 to the internet using Airport. All of the how-to's i've found so far concern connecting the 360 and Macbook via Ethernet rather than Airport, and while i've tried to follow the steps as best as i can i haven't been able to connect to xbox live.
