View 1 RepliesI use Lightroom 2 to catalog my photos. I am in the habit of shooting in RAW+JPG mode which means when I download my photos there is both a .NEF and a .JPG file for each photo. Having done this for several years on a PC, I now want to use iPhoto to view the jpgs and keep with Lightroom for the nefs. I therefore want to move the .JPG files from /Photography/RAW/<Year>/<Month>/<Day> to /Photography/JPG/<Year>/<Month>/<Day>. So far the only way I've worked out is to copy the entire folder structure then use Spotlight to find the nefs within the new folder structure and delete them.

As this would hopefully just bump up my speed a tad. So that it focused it processing power on the application in use.
Also, while typing the above I just thought, when Snow Leopard comes, the OS itself will be a lot speedier, as well as applications like Safari, and the other Apple apps including in OS X, but will it significantly speed up normal other apps as well?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to separate the application folders of both myself and my girlfriend using the same Mac. She doesn't need to see my system tweaking tools and DVD conversion software, and likewise, I don't need to see her BlackBerry Desktop software and Facebook album tools. Currently, all apps reside in HD/Applications, as is default. My question is: is it safe to simply copy all applications into HD/User/USERNAME/Applications, or is this going to cause problems will existing file structures?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an older Mac Pro with 16 GBs of RAM and I'm trying to get Lightroom 3 to stop running ridicualously slow. I've checked the activity monitor and with just a browser & LR3 running I have just over 10 GBs of Free memory. LR3 is using 1.72 GBs. Back in the day you could allocate RAM to a program like photoshop so it wasn't such a dog. Is there anyway to do this in MAC OS X?

View 2 Replies View Relatedrecently bought a macbook pro and slowly getting the hang of it. spaces is really great but i often forget to make the best of it because i'm too quick to open the applications before switching to the right space. so, as the title says, is there a way to make sure programs always use a specified space when starting up? i know you can always move the programs afterwards but not unless you use the mouse and even after moving they still consider the startup space thier "main" space (for error messages and the like). also, i'd like to use my mouse as little as possible
View 2 Replies View Relatedwe are trying to hook up our TV as a secondary monitor (for hulu, netflix, etc) but it defaults as the primary monitor. We would like to keep the imac as the primary monitor, and have the TV as a secondary, but cannot figure out how to do it! The only way we can get the imac back to primary status is if we use mirror mode. Once we take it off mirror mode, the TV becomes the primary monitor again, and there appears to be no way of switching it in OSX display preferences.
I've done similar hookups with my laptop, and the TV defaults as the secondary monitor. Why isn't this happening with our iMac? Any ideas?

I have problems sending mail to people (not everybody) since Google obliged me to change my password on my Google account (attempt breaking-in apparently).
It took me a long time to re-configure everything, I choose the "double" protection from Google (with sms), and my Mac asked me this morning to give several times my Apple ID password, for iMessage, Face Time, etc...)
Now it's not possible to send a mail to my office. It is when I send it via website of Google, NOT when I use "Mail" on my Mac.
This is the message (partly in dutch) : Application-specific password required. Learn more at [URL] .....

im not 100% sure this is the right area to post this in but i have a 15 or so inch hp lcd monitor i wanted to use as a second screen for my imac via vga, so i was wondering if that kvm switch would alow me to have this setup
imac - (vga adapter) - Kvm switch - moniter and surround sound / xbox 360 - (vga adapter)
and the second part is... it says it is powered by bus does that mean it would be powered by the moniters or what?is that a bad idea? will it strain my imac or what.
I would like any application using full screen mode to do that on my secondary screen (a connected projector).
For example when I do a slideshow with Preview it does it on my laptop screen instead of on the projector. Same with iTunes.
I would like the visualizations to appear on the second screen. When watching a youtube-video, it'd be great to have the fullscreen appearing on the second screen while being able to keep on browsing on the first.
I would like to make a video with QuickTime X screen capture function. I use my MacBook 13,3" with an external monitor. The desktop is extended on the external monitor. If I try to capture the screen with QuickTime X, it records only the main screen (the LCD of my MacBook). Is it possible to capture the external monitor?

I have a late 2008 white MacBook, and will soon be expanding desktop space with a secondary monitor. However due to a small and cramped desk, the only place the monitor will sit is above the macbook on a shelf. When I've seen examples of external monitors for MacBook's, they have always been to the right or left of the notebook itself. Is it possible to configure so that the monitor will be recognised as above the MacBook?

I know the iPad just got an App where it allows you to use it as a wireless secondary monitor. So I'm wondering, such technology should be available for the macbook too right? I know it's a bit sluggish, but here at work I only have 1 monitor and I do a lot of coding/multitasking work and if I could use my laptop as a secondary monitor (wirelessly/wired), that would be great. My work PC has Windows on it though, so that's something to note.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Mid-2007 Mac Mini and I've noticed every couple days, when I log out of the secondary account, it takes a relatively long time to return to the login screen. The blue screen sits there for maybe 30 - 40 seconds, but then when it returns to the main screen the whole machine freezes. The only thing I can move is the mouse, I can't click any of the buttons such as restart, sleep or get back into my account. I always have to do a hard shutdown.

It detects the display and the monitor comes out of standby, but only shows a black screen. Tried it with another monitor to see if that was the issue but it's not. Seems as if the iMac is sending bad video signal out... Couldn't find anything similar on a quick google search so I thought I'd try here to see if anyone had any similar problems.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm new to mac I just moved to my mac mini 2 months ago. I move for the sole reason of using the Adobe CS4. However, I have now filled up my 80gb hard drive (mac mini) and want to move some files around. I have a large 1TB drive foe my mac (not a time machine a storage drive) and I was wondering if I could move the adobe applications from the application folder to a folder on the drive. I know on windows this would not be possible unless you uninstall and reinstall on the other drive. I have heard rumor that a application on a mac is the single e file in the application folder. Is moving the programs possible? Dose it depend on the programs I'm trying to move (cs4 master collection in my case)? If so is there any special "thing" I need to do?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I enter spaces and move a window or dialogue of an application to a new space, it does not automatically move ALL windows of that app. This is frustrating and I end up having to move five or six windows to get the whole app into the new space. This is not the case with all apps, but it seems like spaces has problems with professional apps like Flash, Pro Toots, Photoshop -- it never moves all the little related dialogues and panels. Anyway to fix this other than to close the app and open it fresh in the new space?

Now I want to move my downloaded apps back into the original application folder, but they just copies instead. I'm sure this should be simple but I can't figure it out.
I have my iMac connected to my TV and am using Plex to watch stuff on the TV.
What I'd like to do is turn my imac screen off without turning off the second monitor output (i.e. tv) as the imac screen is a bit bright/distracting (even on lowest brightness) when watching in the dark.
i saw on a video of some guys dock. and instead of the stock blue light under the applications that are open, he had an actual blue glowing circle under it....looked really cool. anyone know where or how i can customize this feature on the dock?

2) When I restore a window into the current space, it automatically goes to the space the window originated from. How do I disable this? When I bring a window up from the dock, I want it to open in the space I am currently in.
3) When I open a new application window, it goes to the space where the last application window was located. This is annoying. How do I disable this? I want it to open in the current space, even if I was in another space the last time I had an application open in another space.
I just got my macbook and I am completely new to it. When I "drag" to application folder to install something does it completely move that file to that folder or does it make a copy of it. Because I don't want wasted space having the same file on my HDD. Can I delete the original spot of the filer without messing things up?

I have an annoying problem with application switching since I have upgraded to Mac OS Lion from Snow Leopard. Now switching between applications doesn't work as good as it was in Snow Leopard.
Right now I have Finder and Xcode opened. Xcode is assigned to only one specific Desktop and Finder is assigned to None. And when I am in Xcode for example and use Cmd-Tab to switch to Finder, it deactivates my current window, but doesn't move to the space with Finder or makes Finder active. Then, I press Cmd-Tab again, and it makes Finder active (My top panel controls show Finder now) but I still stay in the space with Xcode. And further switching doesn't do anything. So I then need to manually to click on the Finder icon in the Dock. And the same is vice versa when switching from Finder to Xcode.
If I switch by clicking the Finder Dock icon it then works in two steps: first time it deactivates current window, and after second click it moves to Finder Desktop and makes Finder active.
Another issue is with Safari when I am in Fullscreen mode and have also Activity window opened. If I am in Finder and switch with Cmd-Tab to Safari, it just shows me the Activity window in the same Desktop no matter how many times I Cmd-Tab. To switch to Main Safari window I need to click on the Dock icon.If I switch only by clicking the Dock icon, then I again need to click it twice.
Option for moving to space with selected application in Preference Pane is switched on and Automatically rearrangement of last used applications as well.
