Mac Pro :: Assign Unused RAM To Specific Application?

May 16, 2012

I have an older Mac Pro with 16 GBs of RAM and I'm trying to get Lightroom 3 to stop running ridicualously slow. I've checked the activity monitor and with just a browser & LR3 running I have just over 10 GBs of Free memory. LR3 is using 1.72 GBs. Back in the day you could allocate RAM to a program like photoshop so it wasn't such a dog. Is there anyway to do this in MAC OS X?

OS X :: Speed Up Specific Application In Use

Jul 18, 2009

I was wondering I have been playing World of Warcraft for a long time now, and I was just beginning to play around with the graphics settings, and Im on that border line where if I have my graphics set to full my FPS isn't quite there and so I was wondering if there was something I could do, or something that sped up the foreground application or chosen application or something, know what I mean? As this would hopefully just bump up my speed a tad. So that it focused it processing power on the application in use.

Also, while typing the above I just thought, when Snow Leopard comes, the OS itself will be a lot speedier, as well as applications like Safari, and the other Apple apps including in OS X, but will it significantly speed up normal other apps as well?

OS X :: User - Specific Application Folders

Oct 31, 2010

I want to separate the application folders of both myself and my girlfriend using the same Mac. She doesn't need to see my system tweaking tools and DVD conversion software, and likewise, I don't need to see her BlackBerry Desktop software and Facebook album tools. Currently, all apps reside in HD/Applications, as is default. My question is: is it safe to simply copy all applications into HD/User/USERNAME/Applications, or is this going to cause problems will existing file structures?

OS X :: Force Application To Open In Specific Space?

Sep 2, 2009

recently bought a macbook pro and slowly getting the hang of it. spaces is really great but i often forget to make the best of it because i'm too quick to open the applications before switching to the right space. so, as the title says, is there a way to make sure programs always use a specified space when starting up? i know you can always move the programs afterwards but not unless you use the mouse and even after moving they still consider the startup space thier "main" space (for error messages and the like). also, i'd like to use my mouse as little as possible

MacBook Pro :: Sending Mail With Google Account - Application Specific Password Required

Aug 24, 2014

I have problems sending mail to people (not everybody) since Google obliged me to change my password on my Google account (attempt breaking-in apparently).

It took me a long time to re-configure everything, I choose the "double" protection from Google (with sms), and my Mac asked me this morning to give several times my Apple ID password, for iMessage, Face Time, etc...)

Now it's not possible to send a mail to my office. It is when I send it via website of Google, NOT when I use "Mail" on my Mac.

This is the message (partly in dutch) :  Application-specific password required. Learn more at [URL] .....

MacBook Air :: Unused Rev B For 500?

Jul 15, 2010

I could get a Macbook Air Rev B with 1,86Ghz, GeForce9400 and 120 HDD (4200rpm) for about 500€. It has some external scratches and discoloration, but other than that it works fine and is unused.. it is an original apple product with some product external faults, that's why it's so cheap. The scratches don't bother me at all, I don't need my laptop to look brand new, it has to get the job done.. Actually I'm fine the machine in my sig, although I'd love to have a lighter laptop and backlit keyboard + a nicer screen, but I just got this offer and began to wonder if it would fit my needs... Although I'm studying computer science, I'm not doing intense processing nor multimedia work. The programs I use on a regular basis:

- Xcode
- Eclipse
- Adobe Acrobat 9
- Omni Graffle
- Omni Focus
- RemoteDesktop
- TexWorks
- Skype
- Adium
- Safari, Mail, iTunes, iCal etc.
- iWork apps

some other apps too, but just occasionally... My main concern is obviously the 2 GB RAM.. I have 3GB DDR2 RAM 667Mhz right now.. How much "worse" will it get with the 2GB DDR3 RAM with 1066Mhz? The disk space is not that big of an issue to me... so, what do you guys think? I would try to sell my Macbook for some € too and of course, sooner or later, replace the awful HDD with a SSD...

ICloud :: How To Get The Upgrade (as Yet Unused) Cancelled And Refunded

Apr 28, 2012

I purchased an icloud storage upgrade in anticipation of using it to manage my apple email across two systems - desktop and laptop.  Teh desktop is snow leopard the laptop testing lion. Unfortunately the chance in how apple manages email proved a showstopper and I am NOT prepared to upgrade my desktop to lion - yet - as I have key applications that would require additional upgrades and purchases I dont want to make yet. So - how do I get the upgrade (as yet unused) cancelled and refunded.  In speaking with support it seems the downgrade options only apply AFTER the annual period has elapsed.

PowerPC :: PowerBook Left Unused No Longer Works

Mar 21, 2007

PowerBook G4 Ti:Where can one look up the meaning of diagnostics codes? HDD diagnostics error code: ata1/6/3 HD:2,0 What does a single blinking LED on the battery mean? AppleCare does not show the HDD, chance it is ok but not connected? A friend's system wouldn't start up, he said I could take a look, asking me to recover some family photos from his Hard Disk Drive. This machine had not been used for months. So far I have uncovered two issues and would be grateful to receive further guidance here to get this machine up and going.

service history: 3/10/2005 = repaired directory errors, charged clock battery, installed optical drive. action: Remove PRAM battery and it powers up. I like to tinker, and I'm recently out of work, stumbled upon a place with step by step instructions to take apart at <http://homepage.mac.com/sysop/PhotoAlbum13.html>. Followed those steps and removed the persistent RAM (PRAM) battery, put it all back together ( except for a few screws, oops! ) and it powers up, and seems to be charging the battery as an LED lights up now. Took it apart again and checked Hard Disk Drive connections, appears ok. Put the PRAM battery back in ( battery shows: 616-0144-A, match to slide 35 ) and now the system boots ok. Maybe resetting the connections got things going, maybe the battery needed a kick, who knows............

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Possible To Assign An App To Several Desktops?

May 21, 2012

I'm referring to the desktops you can add in mission control. In the dock, when you click on an app and hold it (or right-click) you can go to options and then assign on which desktop this particular app should open. You can choose on all desktops (which will make the app follow you, no matter to which desktop you are switch), you can choose on the desktop you are now on and you can choose none. But how do you choose several desktops? Is that even possible? Because I don't think so.I am using the Logic arrange window and would like to have the Mixer on a different desktop.

OS X :: Inability To Assign F Keys For Keystrokes

The Adobe Tech Support could offer no help with all log files submitted and as a last resort suggested I erase the internal drive and reinstall system and applications. It worked. But: Two problems encountered so far are : Inability to assign F13 key "to look up dictionary" (default being command -control-D) and the F11 and F12 keys no longer control sound volume as they all did before the reinstallation. I am unable to assign the keys in the System Preferences as suggested by Apple.
